Sword/Shield Build
Open world PvE play what you want. I would wager to say it’d be frowned upon in dungeons, but Sw/Sh can be played alongside GS, LB, or in some cases Hammer with varying degrees of effectiveness.
Sword/Shield+Hammer is a solid choice. Similar to GS+Hammer but trading some mobility and burst for defense and utility. You have a ton of CC with this setup, both in the form of hard stuns and immobilizes (Especially if you grab Leg Specialist, which I’d recommend for this setup). Most of your damage is on Hammer, but Final Thrust is still decent burst (you have the CC to reliably land it) while Savage Leap and Shield block give you the mobility and defense to stay in the fight.

Sword/Shield+Greatsword is another option. It has tons of mobility and solid defense, but lacks in CC and burst. More of a WvW/PvE option than an Spvp one, while Sword/shield+Hammer performs well in all 3. I did find some use for this build during the stronghold beta, as it is great for jumping between lanes/getting to objectives, and the PvE damage is solid when running lane defense.

Hope that helps some
If you’re looking for something pretty different you can try the backline healer/rezzer build. All clerics gear, mercy runes, healy shouts, etc… Sw/Sh – 2h’hammer. CC for days, rez at the speed of light!
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Try this;
You get more then 5 seconds of immobilize on sword burst to set up HB into Arcing slice into Whirlwind/Rush. Over 3k power buffed with WvW buffs and bloodlust along with 60% crit chance (you can maintain permanent fury if you incorporate Arcing Slice into your rotation regularly) while retaining 2500+ armor and insane mobility. I guess this would do decent in PvE as well, at least open world, as you can use GS to kill stuff, then have high mobility for travelling.
Hulk Roaming Montages/Build Vids
I always rage but never quit.
thx for the imput been searching for a build but usually i find early 2013 builds for condi sword/shield are those viable? or which one is better?
Sw/shield for zerkish builds.
Sw/sw for condi builds.
Note that riposte blocks any ranged attacks until it expires or blocks a melee attack. It is also affected by reflect missiles trait.
Shield bash is affected by Mobile strikes.

Sorry for the late reply, the exact amount of ascended gear relevant for this build is:
Berserker Sword
Berserker Greatsword
Berserker Hammer
6 pieces (full set) Berserker with hoel runes already on it
3 pieces (chest, legs and boots) Soldier with some runes that was used for my dead guard
Rings, accesories, neck, berserker, backpack is exotic
Ascended Spear (yolo)
1 accesories soldier
Also some items not relevant to the main build sword/shield:
Berserker Axe x2
Berserker Mace
Berserker Rifle
Been testing those builds and i like them so far, so far going head, shoulders and hands berserker, rest soldier, berserker accesories (all 6) sword/shield (sadly shield is ascended cleric gotta get a berserker one) and hammer so i can freely roam and join a zerg when i want/its needed, 0 tests in pve but i will do it later with gs instead of hammer.
Any other imput to be said?
Derren.8724’s first build is a good choice. Only I would forgo the might stacking for Runes of the Pack and something like Hydromancy or Leeching instead of Battle. Since you don’t have a ton of ways to stack might without a bow I would personally rather have the boons and precision. Hydromancy brings damage and helps to ensure that your target stays in melee range. Makes landing Final Thrust a lot easier too. I also like Vigorous Focus over DotE sometimes because it adds a ton of extra sustain that you may need since you don’t have the easy cleanse of a Longbow. The original isn’t bad by any means, I just prefer this version.
Old Man Burr (War), Bad Hat Ben (Engi), Manly Manny Manson (Guard)
I am using the same build as Derren (the 1st one) but I like to use hydro/leeching on sword&shield and battle/intelligence on hammer. As Burr said, hydro really helps landing your flurry or final thrust and can remove blind, which is always useful.

Sw/Sh can be used in a condi build with LB as the second weapon. You gain a second Leap finisher from the Shield, but you lose the short CD block of Sw plus the Torment. I’d probably try and lean more toward Celestial w/ Might stacking for that setup.
