Q:

I’m kind of a noob and I’m pretty sure it isn’t meta, but how does this combination fair in sPVP? I’ve been running this for a couple days and find it a lot of fun. With the cripple (immobilize because of trait) on sword 2 and the stun on shield 1, it keeps people locked down so I can swap to GS and get hundred blades off on them.

Sounds like an assassin warrior variant, build used to work pretty well in an older meta. Main point of the build was to flurry then hundred blades. Hammer/Greatsword has more use in this meta.

It’s mostly a gimmick build designed for 1v1 encounters. It’s more suitable for wvw roaming than conquest just for the fact that it does not adequately fulfil a proper role.

As I’m sure you know, sword is used for chasing and escaping capabilities and the immob on f1 which sets up into a gs burst. I would go for a/s gs if I wanted single target burst, personally.

Hammer greatsword is glorified, it had its days before the june patch revamp since you could more often use the CC chains hammer provided, whereas now those optimal trait options are gone and once F1 is on CD you’re kited and eat damage. It could do well when supported in a premade setting though, but many run solo in ranked and it just doesnt cut it.

Sword/shield and GS works, but axe or mace over sword also works great. Both are great for 1v1 and smaller fights play as you can keep the pressure/defense up when switching from GS, a momentum you easier lose with hammer on your own vs competent foe.

But this is just my experience!

A lot of people say that condition builds aren’t affective and shouldn’t be used with certain profs and against certain profs.

I was thinking about replacing GS -gasp- with longbow for the ranged damage, fire combo field, and burning that it gives.
How viable would this build be?

I wouldn’t say it’s glorified…it’s still one of the best setups for warriors in sPvP rn.
Also, it ranks in the top tier on meta battle along with shoutbow so plenty of other people believe the same.
@CadeRG Check out metabattle they usually have pretty good builds as well as descriptions about the builds.

Hammer is great for team fights due to its multitude of aoe cc, as well as high damage dealt per hit. It’s not glorified, just a different kind of playstyle.

If you’re actively seeking out small skirmishes and 1v1s then hammer is not that effective. As for a condi playstyle, m/s lb is okay, but again it’s a very single target build.

If you really want to use lb I would suggest gs/lb power burst build.

It’s personally one of my favorite builds but it lacks control. With only one hard CC on a fairly long cooldown you really need to be smart about when you use it. Warrior has access to a lot of hard CC to prevent people from kiting too heavily. Even though Sw/Sh GS provides great mobility it’s still not always enough. It is a good build but certainly not great and a player familiar with it who’s capable of kiting well will have a pretty easy time avoiding you. I’ve had a lot of Mesmers, Engineers and Rangers give me trouble because they knew how to stay away from me and I didn’t have many ways to prevent it besides Flurry and Shield Bash. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot of gap closers if you can’t lock someone down when you close that gap.

Sword+Shield/LB works fine, it’s actually a great roaming build and works well in sPvP too. You can jump in your fire field to get a fire aura for more might which is nice. One thing though, is you want to setup and land Final Thrust when they’re sub 50% hp because it’s essentially your greatest source of burst. You have 3 ways of doing it, Shield Stun/Sword Burst/Longbow Immobilize. Final Thrusts is by far the greatest source of pressure this build has imho so make sure you land it.

Also, run the strength line xD when I first tried this build I was like “omg Imma swap strength for arms for 96% crit chance on sword attacks + 20% reduced CD, omigosh omigosh so OP, autocrat Final Thrusts” since you get 20% from fury and 20% vs bleeding foes in arms if you take the swordmaster trait. BUT, and this is a big but, the dmg you lose from Berserker’s Power and Stick and Move is incredible. It’s essentially a 30% dmg loss since that’s what it comes down to (20% from zerker’s power and 10% from the minor). With that being said I know on paper it looks amazing but even with that the strength line greatly trumps all the benefit you’d be getting from Swordmaster in the arms line just because It practically gives you a perma 30% dmg increase.

Your gear setup shouldn’t change except for a sigil of battle/strength on either of your weapon set since you lose Forceful greatsword and building big amounts of stacks from the fire aura and the might on wep swap trait can take a while.

This is the current build I run on my warrior and works like a charm, literally 100x better than a hammer/greatsword build, knowing hammer is to predictable and slow.
Stuns are constant that their break stuns can’t pretty much keep up and easily able to use a full 100hundred blade him at some point.
