Guild Wars 2

Is it a viable option while leveling? I am looking for a pure sword and shield build and thinking that guard might not be the only option. Might be I am wrong…

(these are the only 2 classes for SnB,right?)

Has anyone tried both classes with SnB, and if so any input into the different playstyles it would bring? I am not looking to switch to dual or a 2-hander, ever.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I did play warrior with sword + shield from 0 to 80. Enjoyed it pretty much.

It’s perfectly viable. Get some condition damage gear and you’ll be set

I prefer Axe/Shield though but that’s me. I like the vulnerability attack.

I think I’m going to do a Sword and Board Bleed Build. Good Survivability and steady damage.

It works out in the world but I felt it was not effective in dungeons.

I usually love shileds in other games, but I didn’t like it on gw2 warrior at all. I feel I’m tanking much better with 2 maces or with a hammer.

Alright here is the GW2db calculator’s version. It seems to be missing some items like the Shaman’s Jewel and it isn’t adding things correctly in equipment.

Not really sure why. These stats look abysmal compared to the ones on gw2skills.net.

I also considered 0/25/25/20/0 but after a closer look, this looked good too.

I used Shaman’s Jewels on the other calculator and 5 superior runes of the Engineer. With 6th Rune from Toughness.

I found a Youtube video of a Warrior running Mace and Shield + sword and Warrhorn. The person playing doesn’t really use all the maces skills and could just be switched to sword. It could give you an idea of just how much we damage we can take, Especially in a WvWvW setting. If you want I can post it or send you the link.

sword is not a defensive weapon, fyi.

Not sure why you are so hung up on a single weapon set, you should definitely not be playing warrior if you aren’t planning on using multiple weapons. The warrior has the most weapons to choose from of any class.

Also you should know that you aren’t going to be tanking kitten, even with a sword and board. That’s not how this game works. You’re just going to be dead weight (literally dead) if you try to just stand around in melee while kitten hits you in this game.

Anyway, if you want to be the most defensive class that you can be, roll Guardian.

Fantom, please quote where anyone said sword is a defensive weapon.. Is any weapon truly defensive? Unless you consider the best defense a good offense, then weapons are OFFENSIVE.

Nobody said they were hung up on a single weapons set either. A good specced warrior specializes in an area just like any other profession. Each weapon has its particular mechanics and a GOOD player will spec accordingly to make those mechanics work their best. Nobody said anything about standing around either. People are looking for good survivability with moderate-steady damage. Nobody said they want the most defensive class either.

Are you inferring that you use every weapon available to the warrior? I’d really love to see your build and effectivity.

By your logic warriors shouldn’t have a sword or shield at all.. They shouldn’t be defensive, or take damage.

It sounds like you’re the one that shouldn’t be playing a warrior. Try Thief?

Or maybe just learn that this game was designed to allow freedom within your builds and cater to MANY play styles. This isn’t WoW. Cookie Cutter mindsets will put you in last place.

Some people get bored with 100 blades builds. Especially when everyone runs them. There is hardly any thought in those buils. Moar power, moar damage. Have fun.
