Tanky damage Warrior?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Soldier’s armor, mix of soldier’s and berzerkers accessories, berzerkers weapons, ruby orbs or similar themed runes. I find that the best balanced gear but I guess it’s up to traits too
Yes, its called Guardian.
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
Yea, I was thinking about that. The problem lies with the traits. I looked at the leaked (possibly fake?) patch notes, so I’ve been going by that. Haven’t played a Warrior in a while, so I’m not sure how much Toughness/Vitality I’d need.
I’m thinking of going either 20/0/0/20/30 (Dual Axe + Longbow) or 0/0/20/20/30 (Hammer + Longbow). In both cases, there’s a big lack of critical chance.
I’m confused. >_>;
Northern Shiverpeaks
Guardian isn’t smashy-smash enough. :P
Northern Shiverpeaks
I think it really comes down to this:
How much Precision do I need to deal good damage?
How much Vitality and Toughness do I need to survive attacks from 5+ people for at least 30 seconds?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Or just have 2800 armor and protection
its like doubling your damage reduction!

I like this:
Or this:
More closest warrior can be of tank dmg with conditon resist mobility and other things at choise, but are totaly dependent of gear.
Too bad the next path will ruine this build
I dont know what i’ll do now :/

Okay. So let’s say that you have to pick one build to use FOREVER! Which of these three would you pick (for the stats)?
#1 : High Survivability, Low Damage
#2 : Medium Survivability, Medium Damage
#3 : Low Survivability, High Damage

I can do it on my Ranger with 2.9k Armor and 18k HP with about 160 hp/s regen and a 5k heal every 30s. That’s why I said what I did, lol. :P
I’m guessing that a Warrior with 2.9k Armor and 20k HP with a 6k heal every 20s could perform similarly, right?
Northern Shiverpeaks
Does anyone have a build for a “tanky” damage Warrior? I really just need a gear setup. It’d be for WvW.
Throw something at me! xD
Going to help you but realize that the meta is changing next week. So I don’t mind giving you secret builds lol if there is such a thing. But for the reason besrekers power and heightened focus is changing Im not giving you those skills in the build.
Prety much 3100 power 3100 Armor 20600 hp without wvw bonus 80% crit chance with 25 stacks of sigil + fury 54 Crit power when wielding the GS. Power is more if you facter in Signet of range and might stacking. Not hard to get 10-15 stacks of might with this build with GS might stacking. 93% immune to imoobilze chill and cripple.

Maybe against those same 5 players… The tank rangers I’ve seen rely on more evasion than a warrior has access to. No amount of toughness or hp can let you eat damage from 5 people. I dueled a warrior with similar stats to those. I auto-attacked him for 1.5k and eviscerated him for 8k. Multiply half that damage by 5 and you still won’t last 30 sec.

Okay. So what is a Warrior supposed to do, then? xD

Kill stuff really fast. There are a lot of disagreements on the forums, but one pretty unanimous point is that warriors don’t have as much sustain as other classes.

Well, that makes sense. So how much Toughness/Vitality should I aim for? Like, what’s enough to not be considered a “glass cannon”?

2750 Armor = 33% Damage Reduction.
Protection (one boon) = 33% Damage Reduction.
Signet of Judgement (Guardian Signet) = 10-15% Damage Reduction.
2750 is actually a lot of armor, that is 1834 toughness added.
Technically, Elementalist has more damage reduction then warriors do.

As little as you can and still be effective. Every player has their own number. Each defensive point = an offensive point not being modified by precision/critical damage/% damage. I run 15 to 20 points in defense, shield, endure pain and mango pie. That’s as defensive as I get.
Like Daecollo mentioned, 1 boon we pretty much don’t have access to = an 1834 point investment for us. That’s an enormous amount of stat points and a tremendous hit to offensive capability.
(edited by Veritas.6071)
I could argue its even more, because of how stats get less and less when they get more. However yes

Ya, I remember seeing the effectiveness of toughness graphed, and there was a point it became nearly worthless.

Funny enough, the first soft-cap for armor is 2750, which is exactly 33%, the hard cap starts at 3200.
That is why i’m pushing for a “burst” skill that slowly increases damage reduction up to 30% (starting from 10%.)
F2: Shield of Rage Lose 2 bars of Adrenaline, gain 10% damage reduction from all sources for 20 seconds, Stacks up to three times.
When you use it once it gives you 10% for 20 seconds, when you use it again it gives you 20% for 20 seconds, when you use it again it gives you 30%, then when you use it again it gives you 30%, but just refreshes the duration. If you don’t keep it up it goes back to 10% and you have to start all over again.

Couple basic rules:
- You must always have food and either oil/stones up at all times
- 2 axes with runes of bloodlust to quickly get 25 stacks on npcs (never use in pvp)
- 2800ish armour is in sweet spot
- being able to shed root is critical
- Yes you need more than one set of armour
10 25 15 0 20 wearing knights armour with hoelbrak runes rest zerker. is great for running gs with some survivablity.
I am running 10 0 30 20 10 right now so I can mix it up with hammer in heavy zergs, and swap to traited warhorn. I am liking this build more than I thought I would.

wearing knights armour with hoelbrak runes, rest zerker works well regardless of weapons.
Just like armour you have to change weapons out of bag depending on situation.
axe/shield, hammer or greatsword, soldier armor / runes, a mix of berserker’s and knight’s trinkets, with a healing shout build with For Great Justice, Shake It Off, and On My Mark will make you made tanky, yet deal really nice consistent dps with some burst splashed in.
Sword/Warhorn + Longbow,
-Healing shouts
Support tank, mass condition AoE and single target lockdown until they bleed to death. Amen.

Unfortunately, a warrior do not have a 6k heal every 20s. Please do not quote shout heal build as an example. In terms of sustain, a bunker ele/guard/mes and ranger do it so much better. 5 to 10 focus fire can still survive. Warriors are no way near the sustain even with shout heal.

Lol I think maybe I came across more harsh cause it was through text. Honestly, what I said about our damage avoidance being low is pretty spot on. If you want to fight lots of people, you are going to need mobility to reset fights combined with as many healing sources as you can get.
I would recommend Knight’s armor and weapons with Cavalier Trinkets and exquisite rubies for tanky DPS or PTV if you just want to survive.
Greatsword/Sword,Warhorn will give you the most mobility
Go 15 into defense and sit on the adrenaline. Use whichever heal you prefer but, Healing Surge will work well if you decide to sit on your adrenaline. Take whatever other traits you want. Our only other healing comes from Dogged March in Defense II (3 sec on Immob, Chill, Cripple. 10 sec CD) and Banner/Shout heals in Tactics XI and XII.
If you are doing WvW, I prefer Mango Pies (85 hp/sec)
