Teach me, Warriors
Your role depends on the build you choose i guess. But the first thing i’d start practicing on is baiting out dodges (and preventing you from using a skill you know will miss) By simply binding the “Stow Weapon” option to a key in the settings menu. Many of the warriors attacks can be interrupted and put on a very low cooldown by stowing the weapon mid-animation. Allowing you to become more unpredictable
If you are EU you can contact me ingame, and we speak on TS about a few things.
Hi, welcome to the warrior world. There are many things to learn, I hope you’ll enjoy your journey. I’ll give below a few pointers to start with.
The warrior mechanics is based around adrenaline and bursting (F1 skill). Bursting is not only important for the burst skills themselves, but also for the traited effects that come with it: Berserker’s Power, Adrenal Health, Cleansing Ire… Missing a burst means losing the adrenaline and not triggering the burst-based effects (except for LB F1). Training: build adrenaline and burst as often as you can. Study how adrenaline is built, and how burst skills can be secured (most of them being telegraphed, thus mitigated).
Another warrior-defining trait is weapon swapping. A warrior has Fast Hands, which lets him swap weapons every 5s, gaining might and adrenaline, possibly cleansing conditions. This is a very powerful feature, because that opens a realm of combinations between your equipped weapons – plus you can play more skillfully with on-swap sigils. Training: force yourself to swap weapons every 5s, until you start and see what is working.
A warrior cannot stealth nor teleport, and uses melee more than ranged weapons. In short, mobility is often essential to disengage. Training: make sure auto-targetting is off, and use your weapon skills to move swiftly. Realize how Warrior’s Sprint works for all movements skills (e.g. GS#5, GS#5…). Note that the current meta (mace/shield/LB) has no mobility, but lots of blocks, it’s a different style.
Finally, you need to learn about the elite specialization, i.e. the Berserker mode. The mode is powerful, plus it brings Rage skills, which are not bad at all. Training: understand how/when to enter Berserker mode, and how to include Berserker bursts in your rotations (as you’ll have plenty available while Berserker’s up).
The rest will be according to your expectations: playing hard CC, power, condition… There are many possible warrior styles, you’ll have to experiment and see what suits you.
Enjoy.

Are warriors really simple to play or is that just because of stereotype?
Are warriors really simple to play or is that just because of stereotype?
Yes, the mechanics of it are simple. But it’s a double edged sword in that, while you don’t have to learn complicated combos, you also don’t have tonnes of things to hide behind and are more obvious as an opponent.
This makes things like proper positioning and movement, cancelling skills midcast, baiting out and counting dodges, stunbreaks, etc. more important than with some other classes, etc.
That being said, some of the new Berserker builds seem to be more forgiving and/or lethal than warrior has been for a long time, so the above isn’t quite as necessary as it has been. Then again, I think all of the elite specs have that sort of forgiveness/lethality thing going on to one degree or another.

thank you so much for this thread! I also used the boost to create a 80 level warrior and just finished getting my berserker specialization.
I have asc zerk gs, exotic axe/mace zerk, full zerk exotic armor with might runes, asc zerk rings – amulet – backpack and exotic soldier’s asseccories. I really love the damage AND the survivability (I main a tempest…).
Hi,
New to Warrior (used my boost) and enjoying trying out a bunch of different builds at the mo and working out the mechanics. Played Engi & Druid PVP main for a while but branching into Rev & Warrior recently.
Was hoping people could list their tips & tricks (simple or less well-known) for PVP (and also PVE) with Warrior that would speed up my learning of the class – apart from the main skills I don’t have a great understanding of how to play my role optimally
Thanks to anyone who contributes
If you want builds, I’m pretty sure Nike threw up a bunrzerk build a while back. Just experiment with what you have, and have fun.
P.S.: if you’re using HB, use wild blow just before HB, or a stun break just after. There’s also another cc rage skill ( it’s a HUGE kb). Using both of them can easily break a breakbar, especially the ones in fractals.
Also something to note is that a lot (AND I DO MEAN A LOT!!) of people have the galls to refer to Warrior as simple and easy to play.. but can’t scratch an ambient rabbit with it..
As for beginner tips.. basic Warrior game play has revolved mostly around Discipline and Defense trait lines as far as I can remember, more experienced Warriors dump the Defense trait line in favor of more damage in both PvP/WvW and PvE but you’ve got to be confident and know what you’re doing by that point..
We have a lot of weapons!! ^____^ I personally have fun with all the various setups and mix-ups. this way.. I never get bored.. NEVER!! (“(>____<)”)
Edit (prematurely posted by mistake *cry):
More tips:
- Learn the art of staying alive.. This will be your bread and butter in all game modes!! The proper use and timing of dodges, passive defenses, active defenses and knowing when to run away.. YES RUN AWAY..!! ^____^
- Discover the various synergies between weapon skills and hone yourself to have the attention/concentration to chain them mid-combat and off cooldowns.
-Have fun.. (comes with successful gameplay.) (“(^____^)”)
