Garnet Army – Warrior
(edited by GarnetArmy.1023)
UPDATED Nov. 14, 2013 —- Now using GS/Hammer
I was never happy roaming with my warrior in wvw until i found this build. This is a WvW build for roaming, but it also works very well in large zerg fights from a personal standpoint. It does however, lack any real group utility… no shouts or warhorn. Not a reliable blast finisher.
You will be using Greatsword + Mace/shield and Greatsword/Hammer. This build works well with both weapon set ups and with the change of 1 or 2 traits you are all set to dominate with either set up. I’ll explain later on when to use each weapon set.
PROS:
Very fun to play. Easy to win fights 1v1 against all classes and build types, and rather successful solo against 2 or 3 opponents.
Great mobility, which is key to roaming wvw and small group action. Initiate on your terms, escape whenever you want.
Lots of Damage while remaining very tanky.
CONS:
Lacks the group utility of a shout or sword/warhorn warrior.
Build is greatly enhanced by the use of signet of rage – there are some situations that demand the use of Battle Standard (warbanner), and you take a bit of a survivability hit without signet of rage.
Requires full bag slots and at least 20 slot bags. You will rarely die and get tons of loot.
Gear:
You want to have 3k attack and 3k toughness. After that it’s up to you to use whats available and maximize your crit damage.
All armor should be knights. This provides a good base crit %, toughness, and damage.
—-I know not everyone can get full ascended trinkets, but it really allows this build to blossom into something special. So if you can, do it! Heres what I currently use:
RUNES:
Runes of the Lyssa are what you want for this build. There are no alternatives. They are 3ish gold each, so its a bit pricey. I’ll also say that i wasnt all that thrilled with them when i first got them, but as i learned to use that extra skill, I dont think i could switch back and be happy. The 6th rune bonus for lyssa reads “When you use an elite, lose all conditions and gain all boons for 5 seconds”. Note that that is in addition to the 30 seconds of fury, might, and swiftness that the signet of rage already provides. And with signet mastery, which is a must for this build, this will be available every 48 seconds.

TRAITS:
The CORE traits to this build are 0-20-20-0-20… That leaves 10 points left over for you to customize. The last 10 could be made of use in any trait line, its personal preference, but I have 3 good alternate choices… but first, here is what I use:
More on Traits… As i mentioned, the core to this build is 0-20-20-0-20. those last 10 points I used to put in arms for the XI skill, granting triple adrenaline on crits. It is also viable to have 10 in tactics and use I, a 1 second immobilize whenever you cripple (GS skill number 4 and Hammer skill #3). Another option is to put 10 more into discipline and get more crit damage and take burst mastery.
FOOD:
I’m one of those people that never plays without food. I think everyone should run it all the time. It really does make a difference. You want to use Bowl of poultry and leek soup as your food. It gives -36% condition duration. I rarely have trouble solo against a condi class and this food is partly why. Most all condition will be using koi cakes or veggie pizza and that provides +40% condition duration. this food will counter that. Conditions were on a per tick basis, one a second, and the +4% edge they will still have will not matter, it will not give them another tick of condition.
As for nourishment, always use Sharpening Stones.
Utility Skills
For large group action i swap bull’s rush for Stomp. That gives you a reliable blast finisher and is great to pop mid fight after using your hammer stuns/knockdowns. Sometimes i run signet of stamina instead of endure pain, the passive is great, but the active is truly amazing. It clears all conditions. couple that with your lyssa rune buff upon using signet of rage and you have two skills that remove all conditions with fairly low cooldowns (36 sec for sig of stamina and 48 sec for sig of rage). Feel free to play around with the utilities and find what you like.
Saved for future use.
I’m a roaming warrior myself. Though I’m still fine-tuning.
I used Lyssa on my Mesmer with Group invis, but he relied on stealth to survive. I have stacked Toughness/Vitality which also gives Heal and Boon Duration. So I have signet of rage permanent.
Some notes: the +25% speed doesn’t stack with Swiftness and it cuts out in combat just like Swiftness. I think it’s a waste. Even if you don’t have 100% signet of rage, you’ll be pretty close with the signet cooldown. Which gives you 10pts to use elsewhere, 5 if you want to keep fast weapon swap.
Dogged March I consider pretty valuable, as you’re going to get mass snared. Even with 6 Lyssa, being able to remove them all every 48 seconds isn’t all that often.
For runes I use 4 Monk so +Healing +Boon and Heal on being hit (645 every 10 seconds max) and 2 Travellers so +20 all stats and +Boon. We basically have 3 boons up all the time, at least.
I’ve surprisingly started going to use off-hand 2 sets of axes. And have a longbow ready. The axes are for big fights. You’ll be amazed how quickly people clear out when you start spinning and I have the same balanced stance activation so they can’t knock me down before it completes.
Anyway, for me, surviving roaming has been a combination of toughness/vitality/healing and adrenaline healing and mobility from perma swiftness and GW skills. I don’t think I have incredible damage, especially if the target keeps moving, but most enemies will try and run.

Updated the build link. Shortly ill update everything else, but the linked build is current now.
Your only condition removal is on a 48 second CD and there are no snare removals since you don’t have mobile strikes. Does that not cause problems for you verse condition heavy classes such as necro or engi?
I’ve never played this particular build/rune set so looking for some player feedback.
Edit* I mainly ask because I have a mental block and feel like I need Cleansing Ire

“Ultimate,” huh?
Also, Attackattack, the warrior roaming build I use has no condition removal, at all, and does quite well as evidenced by the vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r4E9N50lTs) I have long posted up showing the build I use in action. It/they (conditions) is/are manageable if one plays smartly.
Correct me if I’m wrong – I never saw you with more than 3 condis. You didn’t encounter any condi engis, mesmers or necros that I saw.
I understand the video was to highlight the high evis crits but it doesn’t really show how no cleansing ire holds up against condi heavy classes.
Do you happen to have any footage vs a staff necro with signet of spite or vs a p/p engi?

I kill this build so easy. I assume OP was kidding.
