The Warrior and the shield
The reflecting trait can be hilarious in WvW if you manage to kitten off a lot of ranged people.
Do you even lift, bro?
^this
Ever managed to reflect 2 killshots, the ranger longbow knockback, headshot and a bola in one go? Ridiculously funny, especially the killshots because they make the warriors panic like hell XD
Get mace / shield > find enemy zerg in a chokepoint (like lords room) > run into los > reflect > giggle uncontrollably > run and wait for cooldowns.

But shield block locks you in place. Is that skill worth being locked in place in a Zerg?

You can still walk around with shield block.
^ yup, and if u had mace-sword (dont use this set up =P) you get another two blocks that activate block reflect and its hilarious =)
But I love shield for its subtle affects for some reason. I love shield bashes short gap closing stun, I love the extra 90 toughness (its small but i like it), and with 20% cooldown you get interrupting skill with 1.0 skill ratio coeffecient and is a smooth animation with a 3 sec invuln to physicals every 24 seconds. Its got good dueling and zerg uses. I did wish the cooldowns, were a tad shorter, or a slight increase in the gap closed by shield bash, but i love the use of that offhand.

yea you can move around with shield block and I think it even blocks from behind and everywhere.
i’m an adamant sword an board warrior in WvW for about a month now
i’ve tried a few of the other weapons, greatsword, duel axe, axe and mace, mace and sword, sword and mace, sword and axe, hammer, rifle.
when i finally settled on the sword as my main weapon there was no other choice but the shield. not only is it iconic but the utility both hidden and obvious are amazing.
leap finisher, invulnerability, reflect, added toughness, good looks. the shield has it all.
Yes, as my fellow warriors already said, reflect while blocking is hillarious especially when the ranger starts his flurry of arrows or when a rifle warrior tries to snipe you with a killshot from afar.
Ever seen anyone kill themselves while trying to cowardly kill you from a distance? And to jump in their faces and bash them down if they are still breathing to finish them? No?
Get a shield!
yup i recently started running sword/ shield in wvw and im finding that im killing people off and surviving a hell of a lot more not the best dmg in the world tho but my chain crits for like 1.5k first 2 attacks then like 3.5k for final thrust i think its called. and this is with full PTV armor 6 dolyak runes then berserker’s assc one ascended ring
The shield reflect is great in Southsun Cove versus karka who always open up with that ranged tail-shooty thing. Hit FGJ, casually walk into a pack, hit Shield Stance, watch them damage themselves to a pixel of health, one or two hits to finish them, loot.
On that note, it seem that the chance to crit with the reflected shots is based on your crit chance (in PvE anyway). When I’m all raged up and 80ish % crit chance, pretty much every reflected shot will crit for ~2500.

I’ve been playing mace+shield from day one and I never really got over it. =) I’m not sure I would recommend this setup for anyone, but I’m very very defense-oriented so it fits my playstyle like a glove.
The reflect trait is very fun. It rewards you for being good at defense. Not sure what I blocked (probably Kill Shot) but I got a 14,000 reflect once in WvW. It’s also a lot of fun to have button that makes you almost invulnerable for 3 seconds if you get caught by surprise. (Yes it blocks from behind and you can move while blocking. And nearly everything can be blocked.)
It’s also very powerful in PvE. I was soloing a bunch of level 80 champions the other day. It took ages but they never stood a chance.
Also, thumbs ups to Warriors for actually having their best block skill on a shield. It’s kind of absurd how Guardians block with their focus and buff with their shields.
