I have extensively and deeply played most classes at this point, and Warrior is by far the clunkiest class and most handicapped character I’ve ever played.
Most of the times I am killed with my Warrior is due to some skill that failed to work by design.
Sorry but it’s true: many skills need a fix, and I’m going ahead to post the list:

1) Rush / Bull’s charge.
It lands, never. A channeled sprint skill simply does not work by its nature.
As long as it’s channeled, it will always end missing unless the AI is made capable of realizing when it’s time to end rushing and cast the hit; but why not simply let the player control this skill instead of the AI?
Also, the game automatically decides the directioning during the sprint, ruining thenature of GW2 action combat.
Solution: Make Rush a 100% speed buff that lasts 2s.
Make Bull similar to Guardian’s Leap of Faith in the way it lands reliably.

2) Whirlwind (GS).
We should be able to not only decide the direction of the X axis, but also the lenght of the Y axis.
I.E. if we click 5 feet away, the character will whirl to that point, if we click 10 feet away he will go at full lenght of the skill.
Again, this is an action MMO and a player should have full control of his character’s movement and abilities, not cast a skill and have the game play for him during the whole.

3) Earthshaker.
It’s widely known that this move does not hit the enemy even if he’s inside the circle when we land on him.
It needs to be fixed.

4) In general, try to do away with clunkiness, unnecessary melee cast times or channels, and don’t make skills that cannot be controlled by players as it’s a design flaw if you do this inside an action-combat environment.
Combat needs to be smooth and players need to be in control of their character.

It’s time to make the Warrior more player-skill-based and less “hey let’s hope the AI lets me land this skill”-based.

Thanks.

it may be “clunky” but I can chop mofo’s down insanely fast…so I’m over it

I wouldn’t call the clunkyness of the warrior to be the core issue. Basic self survivability is the real core issue. Warrior’s can deal damage, but they’re not great at taking it. That’s another thread though.

Really though i think Bulls Rush and Whirlwind Attack are actually two of the warriors least clunky attacks. Earthshaker though is extremely unwieldy.

I do agree the warrior could use a good deal of fluidity. Just using skills like “Leap of Faith” on a guardian feels amazing when all you’ve done is play a warrior.

Our melee skills naturally are harder to land than other classes since we dont got lots of abilities that are target and jump attacks, but attacks that attack the air as we click on the buttons. Its not a bad thing, but its noob unfriendly against other players (they move alot while PvE mobs don’t.) and our attacks are easy as hell to read sometimes. It is more skill oriented and requires more sticking to targets (thats the Dps problem for most people) and yea, survivability does seem to be the annoying problems along with our traits being so spread out and non synchronous.

need to buff survivability: probably best to target high levels of toughness for this, toughness is ok at scaling but dosent scale nearly as well as it should especially since you have to sacrifice dps to get it: true in pvp and pve: getting 1 shotted and being essentially required to go ranged in most fractals past level 20 is not ok for a warrior running a shield and 3.6k armor.

to that end a few things they should consider:
1) our 11 and 12 defense tree traits: a warrior who puts 30 points into defense gives up any chance of doing anywhere near the damage you hear about from HB or kill shot. These are supposed to be the “ultimate” traits and across most other warrior trees and virtually all other classes they define and change the way a class is played in key ways.

perhaps instead of retaliation spiked armor could proc protection instead, perhaps a 90 sec cooldown for a 3 sec invunerability that only procs if your hit below a low hp and survive is a bit much. Im not sure exactly where to start here but these 2 traits need a MAJOR overhaul so that the 30 points into defense is actually valuable and improves survivability.

2) earthshaker: missing targets inside the circle isnt cool, especially when im making myself super vunerable by usin it into a sea of red.

3) charges often run through the target, and often off a cliff: now this would be ok if say the target dodged, but when they dont dodge this simply violates the laws of physics and really isnt fun.

Spiked Armour – make it grant retaliation and protection for 5 sec, now we’ve got something. Perhaps needs a cooldown increase to 20 sec.

Defy Pain – make it activate Endure Pain at 25% and 75%, and we are ready to rock as anti-burst.

Also make the 11 and 12 Traits on Strength tree more appealing (berserks stance for 5 sec? and physical utilities do 100% more dmg with 20% cooldown =\. idk but i feel they aren’t that great to be honest)

No other class has a skill that’s this prone to not work.

Say what. You say you’ve extensively played other classes… Engineer Flamethrower/Elementalist Magnetic Grasp/Ride the Lightning don’t come to mind? Flamethrower misses everything, Ride the Lightning has terrible tracking (admittedly, it is better now, but you used to stun yourself for ages quite often), and Magnetic Grasp suffered the same problem, but… worse.

And as for clunky… have you ever tried to play a ranger using a sword? Lock yourself in place with your auto attack. THAT’S clunky.

My first thought was, “This person has not played Engineers or Elementalists at all” as well.

Not exactly sure what your prob is w/ the engi’s flamethrower since there are 5 attacks and most of them work differently. So be specific. Only thing at this point I can speculate on is Flame Blast which is kinda clunky in the fact that its range is 600 but the main attack is only 425ish? Kinda doesn’t make sense to me. Other than that, they all work.

Ride the Lightning uses the same mechanic as Rush does, essentially. A long, fast, targetted running attack that ends with another attack. The difference is RTL does an AoE. Rush does not. So winner of clunky-ness is Rush in that situation. And as you’ve said, the ‘stun yourself’ bug has been fixed.

The ranger’s 2nd chain hit on the sword (Kick) is a crippling attack which is followed immediately by a leap attack. I wish all of my melee weapons had a leap attack on a chain.

To the OP’s point, Rush has been broken since day one. That skill needs to be changed. It appears that the GW2 game engine is insufficient at putting one target within melee range of another target without player assistance.

Anyway, yes everyone has bugs, no they’re not all the same, no class imbalance does not warrant bugs not be fixed. I think I’ve covered all further trolls there.

bulls rush hits pretty reliably I’d say.
Unlike rush, you can’t dodge it by walking while you are crippled.

Yes, exactly.

Honestly having the game take control of your character during Rush – and perform very badly at it – is a big turnoff.
It will always miss anything moving in the slightest, and therefore it’s useless in PvP.
Bull’s charge also misses in the same way – a bit less, but still prone to failure because the game fails to stick to a moving target.

Rush is like a sketch where Beep Beep stops from running and Will Coyote fails to brake and runs into a rock… but it’s not as funny as the joke is on you.
