Optimized Mix of Knight’s and Berserker’s Gears with Soldier Runes
I’m looking for a non glass cannon build for this gear that mainly uses the Greatsword.
Any suggestions?
Bump! I’m about to get my Vision of the Mists soon so I need to start adapting to using my Greatsword. I’ve always been an Axe & Shield built Warrior with Greatsword for Mobility. Any suggestions?
By mixing your gear you’re automatically not a glass cannon. Assume you mixed it based on that reddit post, if so then 350 toughness is more than enough for you to survive. Therefore you can just go 20/30/0/0/20 build and not be a glass cannon. It offers everything you need for pve and wvw, can mostly use any weapon with it too by swapping few traits and adapt to any situation. What more can you want?
It is kind of tricky to make a GS build that is somewhat tanky without losing tons of damage. Warriors by themselves aren’t very durable unless you give up a whole lot of damage. However if you have a good guardian party who can constantly give out boons, a warrior’s survivability can go through the roof and still be able to put out damage. That is why the more damage archetype of a warrior are very deadly in an open field WvW setting.
I’d probably go something like 10/25/15/0/20, depending on whether you want a build for PvE or WvW. 350 toughness will help in PvE but will not do kitten for you in WvW. IMO you need at least 1400-1500+ toughness in WvW with a good guardian keeping you alive to be able to consistently stay in melee range in those larger scale battles without getting completely blasted. Toughness is really only half the equation as you will probably need a stun break and 1 or 2 ways to remove conditions from yourself.
I’m at 1,440 toughness and I still have thieves hit me for 10-11k backstabs on the high end. At around only 1250 toughness that would probably be closer to 13k which is kinda scary in my opinion, so having a little more cushion will help a long way. I’d possibly consider trying the superior rune of the forge, you basically gain 12 secs of protection every 60 seconds with +165 toughness. When you are taking massive damage it’ll trigger and give you the survivability to weave in an out of fights.
I’ve tried varying amounts of toughness on my gear, in PvE or Fractals I didn’t really need much toughness in my gear but in WvW is where you will get exposed for it, especially in large battles in which you need to get in range to do damage. I wasn’t really comfortable with my survivability until I hit 1,400, but in the future I plan to probably up it to 1,500-1,600. Even at that amount unfortunately, mesmers and thieves and probably guardians and d/d eles could still tear you a new kitten 1v1. People look at it in an individualist perspective and say oh we are UP, while we do have our problems, we do have great synergy with classes like guardians and we are good to have in certain team comps.
It really all depends if you are going for more PvE, WvW, etc.
Ill give one tip and one tip only: the boss of all tips; remove frenzy from your utility slots(if you have it)
The bane of all greatsword warriors is that they are tunnel visioned on the infamous bulls charge+frenzy+100b combo.
Focus on mobility and survivability and you will be god mode in terms of burst.
I prefer sword/wsrhorn and gs. The mobility is so much its almost calling for a nerf

Yeah let’s create another wammo… nah he’s already sacrificing damage, no need to go even worse with such a poor build imo.
OP go with 20/20/0/10/20 it fits all situations.
