Titan's Guide to WvW Warriors
2: Min-Maxing Your Gear
(Going to do my best to not just give you gear sets but rather have you create your own for your playstyle)
To properly Min-Max your gear you need to have knowledge of all the possible gear sets available to you as well as knowing which pieces give a better return for Critical Damage(Except for some Condition Builds).
Before you can properly Min-Max your gear you need to establish which “Role” you will be filling as well as your traits. Once these are decided you can start aiming for those thresholds.
(Power Builds)
In most cases I aim to reach my Critical Damage goal first. The best way to do this is to start with Trinkets/Weapons.
After that I’ll aim for Toughness, depending on your traits this can usually be achieved at the same time as Critical Damage.
Finally I use my armor/runes to achieve both my Power and Critical Chance thresholds.
I know that this section could include more but rather than giving you setups I’d rather help you adjust your own. Feel free to contact me in-game for specifics.
3: Weapon Set Combinations
(Here are a few of my prefered weapon set combinations and why they compliment each other).
A: Greatsword- x/Shield
- The benefits of having shield is that it will give you the highest increase of in-combat survivability, non-reliant on kiting.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1, Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
B: Greatsword- x/Warhorn
- The benefits of having GS and Warhorn is that it will provide you with some of the highest kiting/mobility potential in the game.
- Where it succeeds best: Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
C: Greatsword- Axe/x
- The benefits having Axe and Greatsword is that it provides some of the highest burst damage in-game.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1, Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
D: Greatsword- Mace/x
- The benefits of having Mace and Greatsword is that it provides the highest single target CC in game and allows for easy 100 Blade setups.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1, Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
E: Greatsword – Sword/x
- The benefits of having Sword and Greatsword is that it provides some of the highest mobility in game.
- Where it succeeds best: Solo Roaming.
F: Greatsword- Hammer
- The benefits of having Hammer and Greatsword is that it give you a lot more combo potential as well and more AoE damage.
- Where it succeeds best: Small Groups, Zergs.
G: Greatsword- Longbow
- The benefits of having Longbow and Greatsword is very similar to Hammer except Longbow skills are more successful in a 1v1 situation against a skilled player than Hammer is.
- Where it succeeds best: Solo Roaming, Small Groups, Zergs.
H: Greatsword- Rifle
-The benefits of having a Rifle and Greatsword is that you get the high single target damage from Rifle while also having a free disengage from Greatsword.
- Where it succeeds best: Solo Roaming, Small Groups, Zergs.
I: Mace/Shield- Sword/x
- The benefits of running a sword offset to a Mace/Shield build is that it gives you much needed mobility to stay on a target that is kiting you.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1(If played very very well), Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
J: Mace/Shield- Hammer
- The benefits of running a Hammer and Mace/Shield is that it provides the highest CC in game as well as giving the build some AoE potential.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1, Small Groups.
K: Hammer- Sword/x
- The benefits of running Sword and Hammer is that it gives you much needed mobility that the Hammer lacks.
- Where it succeeds best: Small Groups, Zergs.
L: Hammer- x/Axe
- The benefits of running a Axe offhand and Hammer is that it gives you more AoE Combo potential when using Earthshaker.
- Where it succeeds best: Zergs.
M: Hammer- Longbow
- The benefits of running Longbow with Hammer is its AoE and Might stacking potential.
- Where it succeeds best: Small Groups, Zergs.
N: Hammer- x/Warhorn
- The benefits of running a Warhorn with Hammer is that is gives you added mobility through Swiftness and Cleanses as well as adds on to your team support potential.
- Where it succeeds best: Small Groups, Zergs.
O: Longbow- Sword/Sword or Shield
- The benefit of running Longbow and Sword is that is gives you the highest possible condition damage output on a warrior. Shield will provide more survivability while Offhand Sword will provide more Condition damage through Torment.
- Where it succeeds best: 1v1, Solo Roaming, Small Groups.
4: My Own Personal Builds
(Take into consideration that these are my own personal builds built to play with my specific team mates. Your gear, runes, and weapons may vary based on your playstyle and your group composition.)
Note: On all builds Endure Pain is interchangable for Berserker’s Stance. Elite is your own option as well.
A: Greatsword-Hammer(Offensive, best used with team support).
B: Greatsword-Hammer
C: Greatsword-Mace/Shield
D: Greatsword-Mace/Shield
E: Longbow-Sword/Sword
F: Longbow-Sword/Sword
G: Sword/Mace-Mace/Shield
H: Sword/Mace-Mace/Shield (Requires Superior Runes of Perplexity)
I: Hammer-Mace/Warhorn
Thats all I have to give out right now. I hope that I was able to help some of you. If you have any further questions please comment below or message me in-game and I will do my best to respond when available.
Enjoy!

I take a similar approach when making new builds. I usually pick the weapon set, pick the traits that synergies my weapons and the role I want my build to play. Then I assemble my gear to reach similar thresholds, again depending on what kind of role I want to play.

Ditch DotE for Warrior’s Sprint. Way too useful.
Thanks for the guide, this is very helpful! I like to run sword/axe and Hammer. I’ve tweaked my build around to achieve something similar to your last suggestion but cannot quit hit the crit. mark. I was curious what you think and if you had any suggestions.
This is mostly for zerg WvW and open field battles. The only think I do not want to change is using an axe somewhere in the build because it is my legendary! Other than that I have the gold to change armors, runes etc.

Thanks again for the advice.
EDIT: Guess I should link the build if I want some help.

Nice, this is something everyone (who doesn’t already do) needs to learn – think about gearing in terms of stat goals, rather than item nomenclature.
Lots of people describe their build in terms of “zerker trinkets, soldier armor, cavalier weapons”, etc. But what’s important are the stat goals, and there are multiple armor configurations to get there.
Focus on the stat goals and why a particular build needs a particular stat distribution. Players can figure out the exact armor pieces needed to get there using a build calc.
3: Weapon Set Combinations, this part is just very well explained. I see countless post about this, so very well told and like your build types for Wvw
Glad you liked it, I had many people asking for something similar to it in my previous posts.

Personal preference and group composition needs to be taken into account when thinking about this.

The thing is most people don’t set stat goals. They simply see other posts on the forums giving them “x” armor with “x” traits.

Yup exactly, but def needs to change. Making build/theorycraft posts like this that focus on the stat goals instead of gear nomenclature is the way to do it.

Here is what I would suggest. Granted I avoided messing with Weapons, Runes, Sigils, and your Food.
Now if you weren’t aiming for a balanced build then I can suggest a more tanky combination. Also if you’re interested in hearing what I would change besides just the gear let me know below.
Hey Titan I’m curious why is the crit chance so low on many of these builds? Seems counter-intuitive esp when you’re stacking up to 100% crit damage, but on a 30% crit rate which seems to taper the DPS potential significantly. Is Cavalier > Berzerker just the current meta in WvW?
Thanks for the help Titan, going to work on getting my crit damage up. @ Spill, don’t want to answer for Titan but remember we have very easy access to Fury so during battle we a 30% crit. chance is usually a 50% crit. chance unless we get the boon removed.
Are the builds for roaming or large scale battles ? :/
I took a quick look at the builds and the ones I checked seem to be missing a lot of useful stuff :/ Where are the shouts ? Why endure pain and berserkers stance ? They are selfish skills and one should not need them if you position yourself and know when to engage and when not to. ( same story with shield 5 )
Any build can work but there are usually 1 or 2 builds that are just simply better for wvw (when I say wvw I do not mean roaming)
This is what I use and proved to me by far the best build for zerging/gvg)
Use ~25 crit chance, ~50% crit damage, ~3k armor, ~3k attack, ~26k+ HP.
Hammer and Sword+ Warhorn are amazing right now. Sword leap is a must and warhorn swiftness, aoe vigor, aoe weakness and more importantly a Blast finisher and condi removal.
0/0/20/30/20 with Dogged march, Last stand (optional), empowered/empowered allies, quick breathing, healing shouts and signet mastery/warriors sprint and destruction of the empowered.
Use melandru or soldier runes, I prefer soldier.
Healing signet (must), FGJ, Shake it off, balanced stance (or dolyak signet with signet mastery and signet of rage) and warbanner/SoR.
You deal awesome damage, you got insane survivability with condi removal, sword mobility, healing shouts, adrenal health+healing signet regen and you support allies with warhorn+shouts…also with great CC from hammer and sword f1.
And use lemongrass food for -40% condi duration.
A close variation to this build like 0/0/30/30/10 can also work but I really value -5s on weapon swap and extra dmg from boon hate.

Hey Titan,
My name is Komizar and I’m a huge fan of yours. Ive run warrior solely since launch. I was wondering if you would be able to take some time and make any recommendations towards improving this role spec for my warrior. A quick rundown: I play in WvW guild that likes to take on groups/zergs 2-3 times it’s size when possible, hence I require a build with much survivability PLUS quick aoe dps. As you can tell, with near perma fury and unsuspecting foe, I have near 100 % crit on earthshaker and 50% on all other movements (barring the 2s bonus after ES for crit % on attacks). Damage is high, survivability is very good with high regen, and our class comp means I can relax a tad on condi clearing for myself and others.
I have found this build to be pretty spot on for my role, but I wondered if you would have any other recommendations to optimize this build (higher dps, higher survivability, etc. without sparing one or the other).
One build respec I occasionally try out is switching beryls for melandru and respeccing 10 points from defense into arms for forceful GS, (ES, switch, 100b, 100% crit and lots of might, switch out, repeat, etc.)
Thanks for any and all help you may be able to give!
Hey Komizar,
To be honest your stat spread fits rather perfectly for your role, Tanky High AoE DPS.
Personally I run a similar build with slightly less survivability and higher critical chance/attack. But that is just personal preference. In my opinion unless your goal is to be tanky, base health on a warrior is manageable as long as you play actively. Also another thing to note, Full Sentinel vs Full Soldier is only trading about 1,500 health for 150 power.
Many of these builds make full use of Unsuspecting Foe(+50% Critical Chance vs Stunned Foes). On builds that don’t use it I suggest running at 40% critical chance. To achieve higher critical chance, in most cases you sacrifice valuable stats(Toughness) in order to achieve only slightly higher damage.

Hey there Aphix,
I’ll happily answer all of your questions.
1: The majority of my builds are meant for battles ranging from 1v1-10v10.
2: Shouts aren’t needed when you have mass condition removal/regen from other sources.
3: You may say, “Berserker’s Stance and Endure Pain are selfish”, but when my role is to kill the necro punishing our 5 man with mass AoE it is a different story.
4: There is essentially only 1 zerg/gvg build for warrior with only slight variations. My reasons for not posting it are, 1: I enjoy the individual skill required for small scale fights, 2: The build is common knowledge to the warrior community, and 3: I rarely zerg/gvg.
5: Those stats are very solid, if you take a peek at my Hammer-Mace/Warhorn build you’ll find something very similar. If I were to zerg it would be with that build but Sword/Warhorn instead.
6: 0/0/20/30/20 is very strong but I prefer 0/10/30/30/0 when playing that role.
7: Soldier runes is a must in my opinion when running Shouts in a large group. To be honest I grab shouts for the party-wide condition cleanse not the healing.
8: Lemongrass food is an option although I find it very selfish and unnecessary when running with 15+ people who all contribute to cleansing.
Hey Titan..thank you for these. Question, where do you get cavalier weapons, FOTM?
Hey Titan..thank you for these. Question, where do you get cavalier weapons, FOTM?
Sadly yes, Cavalier(Power, Toughness, Critical Damage) weapons are from Fractals of the Mist. If unable to get access to them I’d suggest either Berzerker’s or Knight’s.
Hey Titan..thank you for these. Question, where do you get cavalier weapons, FOTM?
thanks are they random drops or in chests?

Random drops I believe.
Hey Titan,
Thank you for posting this. Well presented and thought out, especially the concept of choosing traits and equipments based on stat thresholds. Well done!
Norn Warrior
Hey, which runes would you recommend for builds A – D if you can not afford the expensive Divinity ones?
I thought of Hoelbrak or Melandru.
Ogre/Lyssa personally.
Hoelbrak/Melandru are great if you are just starting out and don’t yet know how to avoid condition application well.

can you show the build of ‘’ B: Balanced CC/Support:(Hammer – x/Warhorn or Shield)
’’ I really like to see if you can get these stats that high

There are multiple iterations I could provide you with, Warhorn with Quick Breathing, Higher dps, More survivability, ect. This is my prefered Balanced Sword/Shield-Hammer setup. Utilities and heals are all personal preference so feel free to fill in what you prefer. Also remember that this is not the only combination to reach these stats, this is just a start.
Just a tip for some of you hardcore Warrior roamers out there.
Take a look into Might stacking builds, you might find a pleasant surprise.
Hi Titan, great work on the builds you have posted here. I was wondering if you can have a quick look at my build:
I really enjoy using GS/Hammer or Sword+Shield/Hammer on small scale fights and even zerg fights. There is some sort of “thrill” in diving deep into enemy groups and unloading strong burst damage on them. I am quite tired of the usual zerging warrior warhorn+shouts and would like to be a “destroyer” type instead. (Frankly, the zerg warrior sword+warhorn/hammer is pretty boring, but I know that it is good. I command on that spec)
Here’s my question: is my build properly “min-maxed” ? Is there a way I can “optimise” it even more towards a “destroyer” warrior without being completely glass (such as rune choices, trinkets, etc)? I went with the low crit chance because I am banking on the arms trait – Unsuspecting Foe, and went all the way with my crit damage. I still get a decent amount of crits, and it can get really devastating when done right. Also I’ve heard that 30/0/20/0/20 is another good warrior build to generate lots of adrenaline, yet I cant think of how that would work on zerg fights.

Hello all,
I’d be very grateful if you could take a look at the build I’m using at the moment (my alternative was Axe/shield + sword/axe)
I’ve clearly pinched bits and boobs from mainstream builds and it seems to be alright for me. Bearing in mind I’m relatively noobish to the game, what corrections would you recommend? ta
Hey there everyone,
I know that I have been silent for some time now. Real life caught up to me in the form of a family emergency and I was forced to step away for 2 months. But I’m glad to say that I am back and ready to get in the swing of things.
Many of my builds have altered since I posted these and I was wondering if you guys would like me to update this thread with the new information.
If so please say so below and I’ll hop right to it.
Thanks,
Titan

I would really like to see your updated list of information and these builds. Could you also give your thoughts on the DEC 10th changes to the class? I had just begun to learn how to play the Sword/Shield + Hammer build when I saw the changes to come.
I’d love to see an update. This information is very helpful.
I’d love to see an update too.
Wanna do another video about it together, Titan?
And no, I haven’t brought back Rifle yet. Still trying, though.

Course I’d be interested.
What do you think about your GS/H v1 build 30 0 20 0 20?
It seems that it wont be touched by the nerfs!?
It should only see two slight damage nerfs via Staggering Blow(23% Damage reduction) and Earthshakker(20% Damage reduction).
Hey guys,
I went ahead and updated the builds on here.
My next question is what would you guys like next. Additional builds? Warrior tips and tricks? Support builds? Hybrid Builds? Condition Builds? Direct Damage Builds? Calculations on builds average damage per second? Ect. Feel free to fire away and I’ll answer as best I can. Keep in mind that I don’t know everything and things I say may be biased to my personal experience. Regardless however I will do my best to help out the warrior community to my fullest.
Thanks,

Id like to see just general tips and tricks, and maybe a Axe/Sh build or a Sw/Sh+GS build.
Here are my thoughts on a Sw/Sh+GS build. The idea is tanky and highly mobile, while dealing high burst damage through final thrust and using f1 on sword and shield bash to set up hundred blades.
(edited by Carpboy.7145)
Warrior tips and tricks would be appreciated.
Any and all adjustments with the upcoming warrior (hammer) changes?
I love your philosophy regarding build stats, with a focus on thresholds. Could you please explain your reasoning behind specific thresholds for certain build archetypes though? I know it is probably self-explanatory for seasoned wvw vets, but for the rest of us a little explanation would go a long way.
Anyway, thanks man. I have this post bookmarked and refer to it often. You should be proud, it is an awesome resource.
Kinda sad there’s nothing much on rifle. WvW is pretty much the only place it gets the most use.

….and it sucks there also. The only thing rifle is good at is kiting a single foe but a well wielded bow is just as good and the bow has AoE potential.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
IMHO this hype with the LB in wvw is just that, hype.
The 2 AoE’s boasted by this weapon and its advocates have the same problem as the engg grenade. They are slow and easy to avoid at any range outside point blank (hell, even at point blank they are slow). Outside those 2 skills LB is just another single target weapon. The warrior LB is basically a mobile siege weapon (best used when taking/defending a structure).
The rifle is a peek-a-boo weapon. Get in – do your thing (usually f1 → 3) – get out. If you stay “in” you die. The rifle requires that you play smart: to pick your targets, misdirect, know when to back off or pursue.
If all you can do with a rifle is kite with it … then sucks to be you.

So what you are saying is you run in, fire F1 and 3 and run away? Sounds like it takes a lot of skill. The only way anyone is every going to get hit by rifle F1 is if they are busy fighting someone else and don’t see you, have every single block/evade on CD, or AFK because it is this most obvious attack it the whole game and is easier to avoid than the 2 LB AoE. If they can’t dodge it then it really sucks to be them. Like you said, LB is great for taking and defending structures which is basically the core of WvW. LB also has blind, burn, bleed, and immobilize vs bleed, cripple, vuln, melee knock back on the rifle. I prefer having the former in my weapon skills (really @r5en@l is censored?) cause in WvW immobilize=certain death and blind is great for mitigating burst damage, burn and bleed for more dps.

This is exactly what makes the rifle work in wvw. You won’t have all your blocks/invuls/evade ready. You won’t always see that warrior take a knee. You don’t even have to put in any real effort and there will always be that 1 guy who doesn’t see you.
Those 2 AoE’s you say are easier to land have a tell that negates any form of positioning. Red circles. I’ve thrown enough nades to know how easy it is to not hit players (not npc’s). They will see the red circles no matter how good you are at staying out of LoS. You could be behind every enemy and they will still know those 2 AoE’s are coming.
Let’s talk about skill. What weapon set on a warrior requires the amount of skill you’re implying? On a warrior. Skill. Warrior.

If they can’t dodge it then it really sucks to be them. Like you said, LB is great for taking and defending structures which is basically the core of WvW. LB also has blind, burn, bleed, and immobilize vs bleed, cripple, vuln, melee knock back. I prefer having the former in my kitten nal cause in WvW immobilize=certain death and blind is great for mitigating burst damage, burn and bleed for more dps.
Skill. Warrior.
I see your point and I understand. I used to be an avid rifle warrior cause I though the bow was too slow and clunky until I learned how to use it properly. Combustive Shot and Arcing arrow are area denial skills, I use them to keep enemies from rezzing downed allies, keep them off siege weapons, force thieves out of their shadow refuge or fire smack dab in the middle of the enemy zerg and watching a bunch of white numbers fly around. In 1v1 I’ll bait out evades and stability, fire combustive shot and immediately follow with pin down. The guy gets immobilize with bleeds right in my fire field. Then I can follow that with an arcing arrow for some AoE might and increase the effects of those bleeds and burn before swapping back to my other set.
Yes the rifle might work when catching people off guard, but when fighting off THE BLOB, single target skills are inefficient unless your job is to pick off stragglers. Overall, the bow is the better weapon for WvW.
I guess it comes down to your play style. I’m more of the “in your face” type, if I wanted to be sneaky and catch people by surprise I would have rolled a cowardly thief.
