I’m mainly a PVE player and i like to do dungeons sometimes. I know that warriors are meant to charge into battle and tackle whatever is thrown at them. But i want to be a survival warrior and at the moment I find toughness to be a difficult stat for me. Now some of you might think that I’m out of my mind in thinking this is a difficult stat to work with with since toughness reduces the direct dmg you take. But from what I’ve read enemies are more likely to attack you if you have a high toughness rating. I’m mainly the first to die because of this. Even when i back off to heal up they still go after me. Now keep in mind that I’m only lvl 56 and just came back to the game after 4 months. Any help would be appreciated.

As paradoxical as it may seem, the best way to survive in dungeons is to pack less toughness, and to go full dps just so you can burst down things before they kill you. Maybe use utilities such as endure pain to survive timely bursts. Use greatsword for extra mobility in dungeons so you can dodge/deaggro mobs. Or if you still have a really hard time surviving just range it with a rifle or a longbow.

I run 3.5k toughness so I know what it’s like getting all the aggro. Frankly the extra attention shouldn’t be enough to do you in. Remember that there are no “stand and tank” roles in this game. Even with a lot of toughness, you should still be dodging and kiting. At the very least, you can run the enemies in circles while your party does all the damage.

What build/gear do you use? What weapons? I have a feeling this is a L2P issue, particularly since you haven’t hit 80 yet.

THIS.On open world even more so i just used to level full berserker with a greatsword trying to kill everything before they downed me. Because unfortunately all gw2 content is only based on dps.Even CC is scraped from bosses.

Forum, live test.. around 2K8-3k armor ennemies are more likely to focus you. Against a boss it can be useful for your zerker mates, but when there’s a lot of trash mobs sometimes it can be really annoying.

In general I feel that GW2 definitely rewards offense more than defense, and definitely designs around that in regards to the Defiant buff.

Have turtles defense or have the class be actually viable in pvp? Take your pick

If a single trait really could make or break an entire profession we’d really be in trouble, wouldn’t we?

The flip side of getting aggro is that if you’re the best player in your group you can soak/dodge the damage and give the team an easy ride.

There’s your problem: You’re still a newbie, so you’re thinking “typical MMO”.

This is GW2. In PvE Toughness is incredibly easy to consider – you want none of it. Full berserker. Anyone telling you otherwise is either still a newbie and learning, or a scrub that refuses to learn.

Simply put, the current state of PvE dictates that there are only 2 kinds of mobs: Trash mobs that you don’t need to tank anyways, they just die straight away, and hard hitters you can’t tank anyways. Therefore you learn to dodge the big hitters and killing things as fast as you can to minimize exposure.

Yes, you’re going to find it a bit harder at first, since you might not to be used to dodging important attacks (don’t bother dodging the crappy ones) and will still try to tank stuff. But trust me, learning to berserker is the only skill there is for PvE in this game.
