(UPDATE) Sword Build Chosen
i would recommend the axe build, maybe with some tweaks.
Final Thrust on Sword does nice dmg (between Lvl 2 and Lvl 3 Eviscerate), but axe has better DPS on autoattacks. Sword is a hybrid weapon while axe is a pure power weapon, so axe fits better into a berserker setup than sword. Sword is better with celestial stats.
I do not recommend 4 points in arms for Forceful Greatsword. Try 4 points in strenght for Slashing Power and Great Fortitude. You need around 8 stacks might just from “Forceful Greatsword” to get an equal damage bonus compared to slashing power on a berserker build, since other sources of might affect both variants.
Leg specialist (2 points in tactics) is great for any sword build.
If you want to go the Sword route I would make a few changes:
Or if you’re ok with less sustain and more control (with this you can sub out Bull’s Charge for EP)
Having that extra point in arms means a consistent 10% extra damage. I’m torn between Forceful GS and Blademaster because while Fury is up you have over 80% crit with Sword. I’m even entertaining the idea of using an Assassin ammy.
Old Man Burr (War), Bad Hat Ben (Engi), Manly Manny Manson (Guard)
Hi Holl and welcome to the warrior class. Now both builds are great for WvW roaming with the S/Sh + GS if you set up the whole burst you can down people fast and if you find in trouble you can run better too. The axe build hurts and is more easy to play than with the Sword one, reason for this is that F1 skill just do insane damage and does not rely like the Sword skill number 3 to be 50% health. And you mention the AA does not matter but in this case i will tell you yes, the AA from Axe just HURTS a lot and can be a big factor. Both builds are fun to play with i mainly play S/Sh with GS simply cause i like to be able to get out and in if need it. Plus the Infinite light and The Flameseeker Prophecies skin looks so awesome together that i simply love them. Either way my suggestion would be play both and see wich one you like better and what works better for you.
I’ve been roaming with my Warrior for some while now and although I’ve put far less time in to her than my Ranger or Necromancer I feel I’ve reached that “comfortable” stage.
I’ve tried various roaming builds out being primarily a solo roamer and have concluded with this as being my favorite build.
Axe offers more AA damage and is slightly quicker + refills Adrenaline more quickly. Eviscerate is on a shorter cooldown than Final Thrust and is a leap which tends to make it easier to land.
However I have found myself more comfortable with Sword after having used pretty much every weapon Warrior has available to it because I feel that Sword offers the most utility. Savage Leap is great for mobility, with Intelligence sigil and Shield Bash Final Thrust always does amazing damage on low health targets. I have hit upwards of 12k on squishies, my highest being this and another high one being this . Sword has a weaker AA but it also stacks up to 10 bleeds which can tick for decent damage, the burst (immobilize) is good for setting up Hundred-Blades or preventing an Ele from running off in downed state with Mistform. And honestly… I’ve found Final Thrust to be far more reliable for burst damage than Eviscerate. Both my axe and sword used intelligence sigil and Final Thrust always hits higher numbers.
I’m a big advocator of “use what you enjoy” over “use what’s most effective” so take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt. I’m fully aware of the flaws in my build but I use what I like and this is what I like.
Also, I know you roam a lot like I do and you should know how important mobility is. With greatsword and sword you have a lot of mobility which is great for escaping or kiting in outnumbered situations. So personally, I recommend sword without a doubt and after having given both an equal chance.
EDIT: Oh and by the way, initially I started off with a more defensive build and have found that full zerk Warrior always wins out. You kill things extremely quickly and still naturally have a good deal of toughness and damage mitigation to deal with being squishy. Full DPS is the way to go if you’re roaming with Warrior.

Hello,
I’ve tried various roaming builds out being primarily a solo roamer and have concluded with this as being my favorite build.
Interesting build indeed, although I’d probably switch Heightened Focus for Brawler’s Recovery, as a personal preference. I’ve got two questions though:
- Does the sigil of impact really work there? The shield stun only lasts 1 second (and less if the opponent runs Melandru), so it seems a bit short in regards of the 3/4s cast time of Final Thrust.
- Have you considered using Leg Specialist, along with the Sigil of Incapacitation (on the GS)? Or would the immobilization duration be too low without condition duration food?
I also roam with sword/shield + greatsword, and find it very refreshing to play. Main-hand axe may have superior damage, but it offers no mobility, which is why I now prefer the sword, even in pure power builds.
Regards.

1. If Rage sigil proc’s (Quickness) before I switch to my sword/shield, yes it does make a difference although to be honest this is an ideal situation which doesn’t happen all too often. The Impact sigil could definitely be switched out for something else but I enjoy when everything comes together and I get a massive crit.
2. I prefer increased stance durations since I run full zerk. It allows me to make more mistakes and can save my butt if I need to make a quick get away plus I have a lot of mobility so I don’t really need to immobilize people in most cases.

Thanks for all the tips, I’ve been slowly getting my gear together for the sword build and have most things ready. I’m still too poor for hoelbrak/pack so I’m running with ogre for now. Have had a few fights where that extra savage leap has saved my life
Thanks again
Without a ranged weapon you will be rooted in place often, having Mobile Strike would benefit the sword build, maybe the axe with Bull charge every 40 seconds. GS #3 and #5 also would remove immobilize if you had mobile strikes also.
Mobile Strikes is alright, but -53% duration from Dogged March and hoelbrak should be enough.
Don’t get soldiers gear if you plan on taking sword shield GS into WvW. You are so incredibly mobile, use that to survive. If you find yourself dying too much, get knights instead of soldiers, the extra vitality is not nessecary for this build IMO.
Also, don’t forget to get +40% condi duration food if you go WvW. ~6 seconds of immobilize induces quite the panic.
