Viable PvP build - By Deranged Duck
You say “Viable pvp build” and then I open it up and see “serker amulet (ofc)” and /facepalm.
Not a bad build, i tried something really similar (same traits and amulets but with axe/shield instead of the bow), but it suffer way too much of every kind of condition, particulary cripple, chilled and immobilized.
Maybe i’m wrong, but i think that every build in the new warrior pvp meta will have 2 things:
1) at least 20 points in defense
2) runes of Hoelbrak
If you take Dogged March, Cleansing Ire and Rune of the Hoelbrak and go do some pvp you’ll just feel so much stronger that is awesome, i suggest you to give it a try.

this is the best warrior build i know for 1v1, but definately not viable in spvp, not even in 1v1 any competent player will dodge your burst, wait for lyssa boons to expire, then proceed to own you. ive been running something similar for months in wvw, thats where the fun is at with this kinda build (disengage with rush+whirlwind and bullsrush = superb trolling), but in spvp? you can only down fools with this, sorry :P

everyones opinion is negative but honestly this build is very viable in tpvp. even high lvl tpvp. they can not dodge the fire field burst from longbow if your enemy wants to stay on the point. arcing arrow hits very hard. just today i was i a tounrey and i killed a ransacker mesmer rank 47 and then his thief tried to shadow refuge him and i 100 bladed them killing the mesmer then the thief at half health i used longbow burst arcing arrow and killed them both. it was pre made vs pre made but i made the right decision at the time to go far. this build is very viable but once again it is not the build that makes the player it is the player that makes the build.
it is a great build because you do not suffer from low crit chance even tho no points in arms. it maximizes damage and even gives 50% more damage with full adrenaline and 50% less hp 100 blades will finish anyone and all it takes is one frenzy 100 blades timed right but people are just bad
jsut annoying cant even post a build with out hate spam when i know this is great because ive used it and dominated even today. i use to run this with axe shield gs b4 patch but come to realize all melee in this game of GW2 is just not viable you melt

you act like players have a million stun breaks not in tpvp sorry. What rank are you? do you even tpvp? im rank 45 and shred as warrior am feared if i can not kill something and im going to die i run to another point reset this is how you play warrior very similiar to thief.
OK they break out of my bulls charge which is my only stun. i whirlwind attack arching arrow longbow burst is burning them down the whole time. you act like bulls charge frenzy 100 blades is my only way of killing someone. that my friend is the finisher. that is how i finish someone. I use lyssa not really for the boons but for the condition removal. it removes all the movement impaired condis which prevent me from running out of a 3v1 or it can give me a gap closer to destroy my enemy. I dont think ive ever vsed a class in a tourney and turned the other way with out trying and i have won a lot of fights if i cant i run thats how u play it.
so dont tell me i cant play warrior. you say its not viable in tourneys why? i prevent enemies from rezzing teammates. i kill fast and effectively in group fights. im always putting presssure with a fire field on points. im very mobile which helps to escape deaths and get to objectives. so tell me why these specifications are not viable

GS/LB is a good weapon set… what I typically run in tournies, and yes it does work. The problem more lies in compared to other classes your AoE is subpar. Your melee damage is off the chain, but GL staying there long enough to actually get it off to significant effect. Running away=Losing, this is conquest, there are objectives.

i mean leaving the point to go to another makes a difference then just dying giving the other team 5 points. Also if you neutralized the point for a lil that can buy some time for your other team mates. I personally dont like any of the traits in arms except the greatsword one. and with this build you can get out of spending points into arms
i used to use the air runes like tarcis and the lightning bolt was nice and swiftness from heal was nice( sorta miss that swiftness heal) but having no condition removal is scary so lyssa is where it is at for me. specially with the currupt boon nerf

lol yea necros are so good now due to the recent buff but even b4 i would destroy necros. specially power ones. but now with this new buff they are fairly hard to kill. so if i can only remove condits every 48 seconds. what do you suggest sir that is a better idea to fight this necro you speak of . also if you are talking high lvl play i dont need to remove my own conditions thats the necros, else, guardians and even rangers job to help me out.

and if my offense fails i run i do not die. im not perfect. but i am skilled enough to know when to book it and when to kill it

A necro has no place for any condition remove for you. Ranger has no support either for you, mabye healing spring with some blast finishers and that’s it. A guardian can remove conditions three times on max.
A necro alone easily put 6 conditions in about 4 secs on you, nearly repeatable. With LB you can stay in range to not eat all AoE coming on you, that’s good. But your utilities only support your close-range option akka GS. That’s the basic fail in your build. With signet of stamina or defy pain you are more independent on sustain and you don’t rely on your 100b combo so heavy. This leads into more roles you can fit. Take a look on deffektives thread and watch what he created, there is alot of tips and summary posts why certain things work or not.
all this criticism and not one nice post about this build and where it shines. just a bunch of negative people who clearly cant play warrior and just complain that someone even has a viable build and it is working for them. i mean kitten if it wasnt working so well for me even b4 this patch i wouldnt have posted it. ive played all classes in pvp ALOT i mean ALOT and i know when to strike them as a warrior and defeat them. and when i go on shatter mesmer or something after i dont feel like wow i was handicap as warrior. but i guess haters gonna hate. sad because the people i play with i used to be like is it okay if i play warrior? and they would be so not down for me to play warrior “go shatter mesmer” or “scepter dagger ele” now these people i play with get mad when i get on something else they enjoy watching me save them and destroy in matches. Warriors OP people are just too ignorant. pointing out all the bad of this build. you could do that with any class. nothings perfect. but i tell you what this build dominates the battle field

If you get stun-shattered you can stun-break and press your signet. But till you do this you eat the whole shatter-combo anyway. (reaction time + cast time of the signet). Against any competitive team with VOIP, they will spike you down in about 3 seconds. There is no way (especially without shield-stance or defy pain) to avoid this damage.

necros plague signet is the new meta.. putrid mark helps as well.
Anas Tarcis runs the same utilities i run. He is very effective with longbow GS. And i have seen defektives builds and played with him in tpvp solo ques. and im pretty sure i am just as effective as him in a tourney.

A necro has no place for any condition remove for you. Ranger has no support either for you, mabye healing spring with some blast finishers and that’s it. A guardian can remove conditions three times on max.
A necro alone easily put 6 conditions in about 4 secs on you, nearly repeatable. With LB you can stay in range to not eat all AoE coming on you, that’s good. But your utilities only support your close-range option akka GS. That’s the basic fail in your build. With signet of stamina or defy pain you are more independent on sustain and you don’t rely on your 100b combo so heavy. This leads into more roles you can fit. Take a look on deffektives thread and watch what he created, there is alot of tips and summary posts why certain things work or not.
necros plague signet is the new meta.. putrid mark helps as well.
Anas Tarcis runs the same utilities i run. He is very effective with longbow GS. And i have seen defektives builds and played with him in tpvp solo ques. and im pretty sure i am just as effective as him in a tourney.
Oh okay, now I understand. In the NA scene this is mabye viable, but in EU, where competition is actually a lot tougher, there is no way to bring a warrior with you.

For me, what that bothers me, is that I can’t manage to see you finish off someone after the initial burst damage, or being able to keep up with someone with your greatsword speed, even with the range closers the GS gives:
People can use things such as cripple or immobilize or things like that to delay you, which I don’t think your build, even with lyssa and II on power can help: I know it sounds silly, but here’s the thing: those two things remove only the current conditions you have, and there are those that can put those conditions again if needed (I am talking things like cripple and immobilize here).
also, one of them is also your heal, which means that if bad things go bad from there, you’ll might get screwed.

I just repeated what many shoutcasters, some devs and many other players said before me.
so let me get this straight:
you use f1 on lb and screw your 2x 30 traits while shooting arcing arrow, lb auto, and your gs burst
or
you waste your heal right after using your burst at the start of the battle and die if you can’t burst a noob with no stun breaks down 1v1 because you can’t heal and real enemies will put too many condis on you to get away
you could just play thief and not be such a niche liability to your team?

Even if your opinion on a build is below the belt (you don’t like a build), we’re better off as a community to help them fix it than to blast them for it.
GS served us well (and still does) for a long time, it’s our most proven weapon. Just because he made a version that suits his needs shouldn’t incur the wrath of the forums.
Personally I think everyone is up in arms because this is ‘more of the same’, which we all know can be REALLY strong, or REALLY weak.

The only reason I question your warrior and what you know about it is because every single thing you try to shut me down on as warrior I have come back with something to counter your argument. Like when you said I should use signet of stamina.
I’m sure you are a great player and all but you give me no good reason as too why warrior isn’t viable. It’s just a huge skill cap
I’m sure this build can work, but i think you have to pick your fights carefully in order to win. You have to be on favorable terrain, IMHO.
But yeah, being without condition removal means you need to be extra careful, I guess. Even in group fights, it might be dangerous in AoE fights. I tried something similar (30/0/0/10/30, lb and axe/shield) with soldier’s amulet (still 60% crit chance with all buffs) and fighting in group with enemy necros around ends up with me getting destroyed in seconds by conditions, even with 26k HP (Signet of Stamina doesn’t help). That’s way many roll with cleansing ire, now: it makes you a bit more flexible, allowing you to be a bit more sure in fights. The real problem is finding builds/weapons where 20 points in defence don’t mean a big letdown in damage.

People also said that necro was not working in competitive play pre patch, especially the “necro players from the top teams” who had no clue how to play necro effectivly(they still backpeddal and keyboard turn like super heroes). Not anything with how viable warrior is now, just food for thought.

Yea I woulda but my computer is pretty lame :/ I know I’m good player and people I play with/ vs no I am good … I just thought I’d share my build because it is viable because I use it and typically have the most kills in a game and points with minimal deaths. But haters gonna hate… I wouldn’t post something if I didn’t think it worked

It’s an unforgiving build with no sustain, and you need to understand how to play it. But if you can work with that, the damage, aoe, and mobility is all very strong. The prepatch build got me to rank ~270 solo. Rank obviously doesn’t mean everything, but I think that at least says it can be competitive at a high level (and I think it’s superior to axe/gs that you occasionally saw in tournies).
So actually, let me throw something in about playstyle: the most important thing about playing this style warrior is to understand you have no sustain. You need to either score a kill, or gtfo and reset the fight.
Solo, the build can open very strong for quick kills. I tend to go LB burst, LB #5, LB #3, GS #3, BC/fr/100b. Against good players you’re going to need to adjust for their reactions, and potentially iterate a few times trying to land LB#3 and GS#3 before going for a BC kill.
In group fights, you need play extremely conservatively and rely mostly on LB damage and advantageous positioning. Look for the opportunity to set up either a LB#5→100b kill or BC→100b kill. If you get caught with aoe and conditions without scoring a kill and gaining the advantage… it’s over, you have to reset.
The last point is why I’ve grown to like the burst condi clear. It’s a sacrifice in the very important kill scoring power of the build, but it’s a lot more reasonable to maintain your health in a team fight. I feel more comfortable getting some melee hits in and dodging back out to LB range, and I think that’s benefiting the team more.
So tl;dr: I think the build is still effective in the classic warrior playstyle, but my preference right now is to make use of the new condi clear.

Thanks for explaining how to use the build this is exactly how I play and I do pretty kitten good at .. You gotta play like a thief but without stealth you use your mobility to get away which is a lot easier then people think . People cry about the conditions that prevent you from moving but both my heal and elite 30 sec and 48 sec cool down remove those conditions give u the time to GTFO.
Only question I have for you is. What would you choose for the 10 point trait in defense because we must spend 20 for the new cleansing ire. Also what should your build look like? 30 0 20 0 20? I’m just worried about losing the extra crit chance and crit damage from discipline tree. But I guess fury and 43% crit with Lyssa runes does the job pretty well
Yeah, the 1st defense box is not very exciting. I’ve tried stance duration some, but usually take dogged march.
I’ve tried:
30 0 20 0 20 – Hits really hard, but you’re always hurting for adrenaline, feels like I’m wasting the 15% damage trait a lot.
0 30 20 0 20 – Adrenaline on crits and might stacking is strong, but noticeably less damage.
Haven’t really decided what I like better. I think Anas Tarcis has some decent ideas as well, I forget what he runs but he’s got a thread out here.
I agree with OP that GS builds can be viable if you engage VERY carefully and understand that you need to play like a thief (get in, attack, gtfo) if you want to survive.
However, I think the boat left a long time ago on our chance to use Bulls Charge + Frenzy effectively anywhere else apart from hotjoin, and I would really suggest you do not pop Frenzy until you see the first bulls charge attack hit. Otherwise you are likely to blow your Frenzy on them before they; invuln, blink, stunbreak, dodge etc.
Also Lyssa runes is a bit of a nightmare with all the Necro’s running around. At least one of them will have corrupt boons and will see the Lyssa 6 pop and think “it’s christmas time”.
Keep the theorycrafting going though! It is my belief that we haven’t yet found the builds that Anet think are viable and geared the changes to. Might just be wishful thinking from me though!

If you pop frenzy after starting 100b, it has absolutely no use. Since it doesn’t apply quickness to ongoing skills.
My 100b spec I’ve been playing for fun. Quite effective, but as always with everything warr related, it’s not viable in high-end pvp.

You say “Viable pvp build” and then I open it up and see “serker amulet (ofc)” and /facepalm.
I don’t use the Berserker amulet in most PvP builds b/c it doesn’t fit my playstyle….but just b/c someone uses one doesn’t make their build unviable. You have to look at the build as a whole.
But as with anything else in life, if you write something off due to one thing without actually thinking about it…..yea /facepalm.
Tankiness or survivability maybe what you prefer (I know I do) but is not the definition of viability. It depends on your role and what you are trying to accomplish in team and individual fights. It obviously helps in GW2 pvp in most cases…or you need ‘just enough’ for the more bursty playstyles.
Not to say THIS build is completely viable either or doesn’t completely suck. Point being, I’m going to look at it first and see what he’s trying to accomplish and to see how well he’s covered some of the weakpoints of rolling with a ’Zerker amulet and reserve my /facepalm until I know the facts…
