Q:
Vigil Armor
A:
“good” is situational…it all depends on your setup; your build; traits; upgrades and your purpose for using them. In terms of esthetics “good” is an understatement. it’s great! But that also is a matter of opinion.
There are many armor sets out there. However if you like the look you can always transmute the vigil armor which is a rare onto exotic armor with better stats. You’ll be getting the best of both worlds.

Vigil armor is rare so it will not have max stats, which are only found on exotics. That being said, their stat layout (power/vitality/toughness) is arguably the best you can get for a warrior so it is a good start if you want something powerful right now.
The quickest way to get “perfect” pwr/vit/tough exotics if you don’t care for the looks currently is getting the chest piece for 42k karma at the karma vendor near arah and the rest of your exotics through the catacombs of ascalon dungeon.
it’s one of the best. use it till you get enough karma, dungeon tokens or WvW badges to replace with an exotic set with the same stat grouping.
here’s a tip if you want to buy 5/6 pieces in one day without grinding one dungeon to death, do all 3 catacombs, sorrow’s embrace and honor of the waves paths. they all sell exotic soldier stated gear.
so day 1 you can snag helm, gloves and boots. You can find an exotic chest at the temple of grenth and exotic legs at the temple of melandru. after this you only need to worry about shoulders. you can do any of the dungeon clears the next day(+1 extra path run).
