Anything would work for you in PvE. You can have another ranged weapon to help you out for pesky ranged mobs that put you in combat mode (and therefor make you miss that coveted jump). I hear several dungeons have these situations, so best have it in hand.
You can try any other weapon you desire on the Golems in the PvP area. It may give you an idea on what works out for you before buying actual PvE gear.

Gear? Can’t go wrong with Soldier’s. I like to try for high toughness/power with some crit chance. Really anything works though, just like Kronos said. Just gotta commit to something.
