Q:

I need some serious help here. I’m new to this game and it quiet different from WoW and Rift, maybe even confusing to me.

I created warrior and I’m level 7 currently and I’ve managed to die probably a good 15-20 times now. I really just don’t get what’s going on here. It “seems” everytime I go to fight or do any event, I have 2-3 mobs on me and I just melt. My Heal seems to be non-existent. I’m not sure when I’m suppose to be dodging, I’ve tried just spamming the dodges when I fight. Not much seems to make a difference.

When it’s just a 1 on 1 encounter things go pretty good, no real touble. Anything more than that and I’m probably going to die. I’ve tried a few different weapons so far, none seem to make much difference.

I kinda hate that I get scaled down to whatever ara I’m in. I’d be happy questing in a lower area until I can figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Anyways, I know it’s a wide open questions, but any guess on what I’m missing here ? Doesn’t seem like lowbie intro levels would be this complicated\hard, so I must be mising something obvious.

Thanks

Are you sure you arent in a high level area? Warriors are somewhat notorious for having really easy leveling. Even if you just sat there spamming 1 with a junk sword and no armour it shouldnt be that bad.

This game requires you to move. Don’t be planted in one spot while in melee range. Even with a ranged weapon you should still move to kite the enemies. Try not to agro too many enemies at once. Learn to dodge and keep the fight within a small space this way you won’t agro others while fighting. Get an understanding of your abilities. Signets at lower lvls are great for those just starting. They give passive abilities when not used which benefits new players who may not always use skills when they should be used. Upgrade weapons and armor often either through crafting, purchasing or finding. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from players in area by using the chat box under “say” or “map”. Players will come to your aid and more so if an event just popped. To add to all of this, the best way to play this game is with other players. Find a guild who is looking for new members. Get a headset with a mic and join them in the 3rd party program they use to chat, TS or Vent…. That way your questions are answered quickly and the enjoyment of this game is much better.

1) If you’re having issues, make sure to unlock your heal skill that is a Signet. The passive healing from that is a bit unbalancingly high in the lower levels. That will help to give you an edge.

2) What level of weapon are you using? By lvl 7, you should be able to craft / buy a lvl 5 weapon that is of Blue quality or higher. (If you’re still swinging White weapons that are lvl 1, then your damage output is doing to be horrible.)

3) Weapon suggestions are subjective. Each weapons fits people differently. There are some weapons that I excell with and others that I’m horrible with. My only suggestion is to find a ranged weapon that you like for your 2nd weapon set. If you’re having issues with extra mobs adding into your fight, I’d suggest that you try out the Longbow. Contrary to expectations, it tends to be more beneficial to use it up close as if it were a shotgun.

4) For your Utility skills, you’ll want some kind of generally useful skill. As a starting skill, For Great Justice isn’t a bad one. It will let you permanently chain up some Might (+damage) stacks and you’ll have a Fury buff to bump your critical hit chance up for part of the time.

5) You can also make some decent lvl 5 Blue armor pieces as well. It might be that you’re still using extremely low level armor, which could be causing you to take more damage then you should for your level.

PS – What server are you on? Almost any established player should be able to twink you out in lvl 5 Blue gear that will let you tear through anything that is level appropriate. If need be, I’d be happy to do it myself. (If you’re not from Ferguson’s Crossing, you could always Guest visit my server.)

Melt the enemies before you get melted.

Do what 99% of leveling warriors have done, pick up a Greatsword, either use Bladetrail or spend a second to gain positioning so that you can hit all enemies in melee range, Hundred Blades (wait for the animation to finish), immediately following by Whirlwind attack through them all, mop up, loot, move to next group while your health refills. When you get Adept talents, it becomes even easier.

In PvE, dodging is really not required unless you are taking on Veteran+ opponents. In that case, use ranged (Rifle) and expect to kite some if solo.

Thanks for the replies. Mike the Mad even came over and party with me and ran me around and cleared up some areas of confusion I had. It’s better, but things still seem off for lowbie leveling. I wonder if part of my problem is that the server appears to be a west Coast server, but I’m more East Coast. One of the issues I keep having is if I rush into enemies, 95% of the time they will end of behind me. I’m just not use to that. As I try to readjust to face them, they seem to be re-adjusting too and we end up back to back again. Some of the attacks feels like they have a half sec to 1 sec delay, I’m not sure if that’s normal or just me.

I am using a blue level greatsword, though Mike showed he had no trouble using two 1 handers. Rest of the gear is just whites and blues I’ve picked up on the way.

One area I keep dying that I don’t know how to solve, is I get knocked down, I fight, I get revived\Back up. And even though all the enemies are dead, I have this kinda greenish smoke coming out of me and then 3-4 secs later I fall over defeated.

Thanks for the feed back and Mike for giving me a guide tour.

That would be due to your using the special skill called Vengeance when you’re in the Downed state. This skill let you immediately rally, which is normally only possible when a mob that you’ve hurt dies or when you finish the channeling heal process. While under Vengeance, you have a 25% on every mob kill to remove the Vengeance special debuff. If the buff is removed, then you stay alive. But if the buff is still there at the end of its duration, then you drop dead.

There is a trait in the Discipline trait line called Sweet Vengeance. If you take this Major trait choice, then any enemy kill will automatically remove the debuff.

Dalexx,

Reboot your brain completely from what you learned in previous MMOs.
GW2 works in a completely different way.
You are required to dodge some attacks, heal yourself and DPS at the same time.
There is no tank or healer to take the challenge away from the game for you, you will have to actually use your defensive cooldowns and all.

Still, Warrior is the easiest class to level with.
Use this build as a start: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJAUTjkO5u9OuQMxAgTBoA
Shouldn’t be too hard even for one new to GW2.

And btw this game has auto-facing, which means when you use a skill on a targeted mob your char will automatically face it before using the skill.
You don’t need to “reposition” yourself.
