So I posted another thread a while back when I was brand new to the class and was getting tossed around. Now that I’ve had some more experience I am doing much better in pvp. I’d say around 75% of my fights are being won now (which I’m very happy with compared to what I was doing) but I’ve run into a new set of problems.

Here’s my current setup, perhaps you can help me find flaws.

I’ve found out that in 1v1 servers where people test builds, I don’t do so well. Thieves are downing me in less than 6 seconds, some warriors simply don’t die no matter how many people are on them (still cant figure that one out) and Dragonhunters are seemingly impervious to damage. Depending on who I’m going against, I either:

A. Lose health too quickly

or

B. Cannot provide enough condi pressure/raw power to down someone.

I’ve swapped through multiple runes/amulets/traits to find that happy medium of defense and power. Sometimes it will work wonderfully then I’ll get curb stomped by a few people lol. I’ve ran both CI and RR, each have their ups and downs. I’ve been making other toons to study various other builds which has helped a lot.

Could any experienced warriors point me in the right direction on which builds tend to do the best power/dont die in 3 seconds? Or is this simply a matter or practice and I’m getting outclassed?

Hey Kraizer, I’m glad you are enjoying yourself with warrior. Please allow me to educate you in the ways of hybrid warrior. In truth, there is only really one problem with your warrior.. That is, that you are running the wrong Amulet. In my warrior 101 thread i mentioned that warriors can get away with less Toughness and Vitality than other classes because they already have high baselines in that area.

  • Hybrid warriors need precision to be effective. without precision you will ot be going substantial direct damage.
  • Warriors can perform well in 1v1s, but they are far inferior to thieves in 1v1. don’t worry about loosing those fights too much.
  • my suggestion is to trade your amulet for Sinister Amulet. many warriors will tel you your sigil is not effective, and there are definitely better options for them, but i get the feeling that you play around with different sigils.

SIDE NOTE

  • I was informed recently, that Condition duration is not as important in PVP as Condition damage, because players clear conditions often. This makes a sort of sense i had not thought of before. After all what good is 100% condi duration if most of the time the condi will be cleared before the duration is up anyway. In PVE or WVW Condi Duration is important, but in PVP you want more damage per tick and not more stacks per condi.

Well, the reason why I chose those sigils is because I was trying to focus on power/condi so I was gonna rely on sigil swaps for boosts since my crit was in the toilet. I switched because I was tanking things, but wasn’t doing any damage.

I’ll run sinister for a bit and make some adjustments to my sigils. I’ll read over your thread as well then post back. Thanks!

EDIT: I just realized the build is on metabattle: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Warrior_-_Carrion_Hybrid. I think you should use this version:

  • The investment in condition damage has better returns: aside from Skull Grinder, the build equips Shattering Blow and the sigils of Geomancy and Doom.
  • The GS has a sigil of Intelligence, pretty mandatory with a Carrion amulet. It uses Leeching instead of Hydromancy, I don’t have any opinion on this, both are great.
  • It uses the Runes of Leadership instead of the Runes of Berserker, and this is a superior choice. Runes of the Berserker should IMHO not be used in PvP: once you have enough damage in a build, it’s better to add utility than even more damage.

As for thieves – the outcome not only depends on player’s skills, but also on what builds the players run, and whether they counter each other. I’ve never played as a carrion warrior, so wouldn’t be able to advise in this regard. As a power warrior though, I eat thieves for my breakfast – switch to Demolisher amulet if you want to get a taste.

Naturally, strong thieves can be a pain – but this is more a matter of player skill, and any class in the hands of a master (or anyone stronger than you are) will be a pain to deal with.

as a little side note of reality

daredevils will kill you

dragon hunters will eat you

druids will out heal and out damage you

condi reaper will kill you

some tips on how to beat such classes

run tank condition build with good output of burst of condition and pressure, try not to have a downtime.

try to proc adrenal ez mode health on dragonhunters and out regen them

for thieves, try to have many interrupts as possible

rule number 1, dont design a build to counter classes

rule number 2, never back down

I played a hybrid warrior last week for a day using Destroyer Amulet and GS Mace/Shield but when i looked at the end game stats i found that the condi damage was much lower than i had hoped. So i switched to Full Power War (GS Axe/Shield) with Demolisher amulet and had so much more fun. I actually had one game where i hit the legendary 1 Million + damage stat. It was almost 1.2 Million. It was a long match that went to 500/470 finish.

I actually hadnt had so much fun on war since before HOT. Meta Condi war just bores me to tears although i did use it in season 3 to get my easy profession achievement.
