So, there’s a massive influx of thieves since the Jan 26th balance patch.
I have been trying to create a build to counter thieves specifically, but not be useless in all other aspects.

I’ve been having pretty good success with this build (with mercenary amulet).

Even Anas Tarcis copied my build after seeing it :^)

Anyway. What do you think? Warrior for thief counter? Or another class? Scrapper doesn’t seem as good at countering them, IMO. Curious as to if some sort of ele build with shocking aura spam would work too.

A great thief will always give a warrior trouble. However bringing sufficient counter burst will give them just as much trouble. Running Valkserker I’ve got the tools to deal with them, high hp, good sustain, good burst, good lockdown.

I also ran my p/p carrion/mercs venomshare daredevil last night for daily. Had a lot of matches with 2x thieves on the other team so had plenty of thief v thief action. Ranged + condi’s makes for a thief’s bad day. So yah, assuming you can get your condi burst out on them, probably from under resistance, your build might be ok.

How that setup will do vs the rest of the match is the big question.

GS A/S Besrzerker spec with stances and Headbutt is the counter to thiefs but it’s not viable. This one here my season 1 build, can take down any thief but like I said nothing is viable. He’s the captain of the US team Apex Prime, which participated in the first season of the Pro League. He mains a warrior, although he’s been playing mostly Revenant and Reaper recently.

He has a twitch channel, but does not stream anymore since mid of the season. His stream featured unranked/ranked PvP games, with a focus on discussing and playing out builds (but not really PvP strategy). His skills as a warrior are strong, making his games enjoyable/instructive.

A warrior, provided he packs some burst, is pretty much a counter to a thief. However, a strong thief, who knows how to take his time, kite and interrupt properly, should have the advantage.

Incidentally, rifle warriors (on the rise!) should be able to dominate thieves more than usual melee warriors, because the rifle is a natural counter to kiting.
