Hey all,

Just looking for some advice. I have tried a lot of setups to create a strong warrior in a 1v1 situation. I know this can be done, I’ve seen human warriors in the EB jumping puzzle almost tormenting up to 3 players.
My stats first:

Power 2086
Precision 1028
Toughness 1973
Vitality 1889 (30k with food)

I still get cut down in seconds, yet as an example last night I saw a Mace/Axe human warrior tank 4 enemies. I engaged him on my own too and he cut me to ribbons, and my best attacks didn’t even get him to less than 65% health. Even if I could hurt this guy, he has insane pace and could run and regenerate. I don’t understand how someone can be so strong and me so pathetic. Are my stats bad?

I took a screenshot of this warrior I referred to above so you can see what stacks he’s using. Any suggestions? I have not yet tried to create a fast, powerful and regen build, but this guy had it all. Any help would be appreciated.

He is running runes of lyssa, might be a build similar to my warrior.. I run with a mate’s build and it works well, goes like this.
All armour pieces are pvt with lyssa runes
All accesories are Cavaliers with beryl jewels
Both weapons are berserkers, one with sigil of bloodlust and one with power.
Traits are 0/0/30/30/10 mostly interchangeable but “empower” is a big one and “signet mastery” this means you effectively have about 4 seconds downtime on the buffs from your signer of rage given lyssa rune buffs stack with it, and when you use your signet of rage you have 18% increased damage for 7 seconds. You also want to pick up shouts healing and lung capacity for 20% reduction on their cooldown.
You should have about 1.9k toughness 1.9k power and 24.5k up like this.

I run currently with healing surge, for great justice, shake it off, signer of stamina and signer of rage, good condition removal in the signer of stamina / shake it off and runes of lyssa and although the build seems defensive it has a high damage output when lyssa is up and the 100% fury uptime keeps your damage rrather high when its down.

Hope this helps anyways.

Like skippy wrote, you nemesis is running with Lyssa runes (you can get them cheap from Karma vendor, then replace them piece-by-piece with the stats you really want Also he has 25 Stacks of Bloodlust up and is using Buffood.

My build for WvW:
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/warrior/?8.0|1.1n.h17|7.1g.h4.7.1g.h4|1n.7i.1g.7i.1n.7i.1g.7i.1n.7i.1g.7i|2v.e13.1n.67.1n.67.1g.67.1g.67.2v.e13|k59.k5a.0.a6.k6a|54.7|5z.6f.69.6g.6m|e

Mending – FGJ / SoS / BS – SoR

2x Axes with Bloodlust means you hit 25 stacks faster. Also Axe-Whirl is good in WvW Zergfights or against stealthed enemies.

With Empowered I only get 5s of all buffs. Still Lyssa rocks – Condition removal + extra dmg, it’s the ultimate ohh-ccrap button

Movement Specialist is important for WvW. Signet Mastery is important for Lyssa.

Is what I currently run, could really use almost any weapons but I like these two, good ranged damage and aoe along with utility, then high mobility and damage from the greatsword.
If I plan on using an arrow cart il swap in leg specialist and other than that a few of the other traits can be swapped around, I’m still playing with it a bit myself but I find it highly effective like this.

No guardian buffs there, he has his 25 stacks from his weapon, the healing signet, two food buffs and then all the “yellow” boons, these are obtained from him popping his elite skill which is signet of rage, by default it gives swiftness, might and fury for a long duration. This guy has runes of lyssa which give you every boon for 5 seconds (increased by boon duration), that means 9 boons. This guy has 8 because he is missing aegis, likely an auto attack or something proc’d it before the screenshot was taken.

In what way? 1.9k power with over 50% crit with 100% fury uptime and 65% crit damage is more than enough with 1.9k toughness and 24.5k hp. That’s 40ish% damage reduction.. we just take a good elite and make it an incredible one on top.

Well there are better options for runes, such as if you want more tankyness: earth, more boon duration (water + monk), more dps: ruby orbs. I don’t see the point in going for the rune of lyssa as you either initiate with it (most likely) or you use it as a full cleanse (less likely). But do those 5 seconds really outweight the benefits of the other options you have?

But do those 5 seconds really outweight the benefits of the other options you have?

To be honest, yes they do. (Its also 7 seconds as I have 30% boon duration)
Water / monk for boon duration is good, but my 30% serves me perfectly fine, for great justice I can easily have that might up 100% of the time and my signet of rage lasts 39 seconds on a 48 second cooldown (then add the 7 seconds from lyssa and you are looking at 46 seconds of the fury / swiftness) then there’s fury from for great justice and ifssomeone’s real intent on taking my boons away I get fury from the GS f1 if I really must.

And you are right, I could look at a tankier rune but then I will be losing the precision from lyssa, precision that is vital to the build as it only had about 18% standard and about 31% with food..

Then you need to look at the trait empower (2% increased damage for every boon on you) 8 boons (won’t count aegis cos it drops fast) is 16% increased damage for 7 seconds.. that’s a lot of damage.

So all in all the lyssa runes synergize well with the build, I have shake it off, signet of stamina AND signet of rage for condition removal. Then there’s the 16% damage increase for 7 seconds that reduces to 6% increase thereafter until my elite is up again, and as you said that 7 seconds you are incredibly strong and I can get that every 50 seconds (I believe lyssa runes have a 50 second internal CD).. but you are right when you say it depends on when you use it, when you are running runes of lyssa it is not to be used as an opener, plain and simple.. because then you are denying yourself all those buffs plus a serious condition removal for most of a fight.

Lyssa runes are not worth the slot absolutely.
The only worth-mentioning boon is Protection which is really just 5s.
Earth runes provide better results and add a 5sec anti-projectile shield when 20% health, much better.
Forge runes too, 12s protection @ 50% health is great.

That’s all good and well, if you are going for a tanky option, and that’s really not something to rely on multiple times in a fight. You say protection is the only boon worth mentioning? And only for 5 seconds? As I said in my earlier post, ALL boons from lyssa last 7 seconds.

Now that’s,

  • protection
  • regeneration
  • might
  • aegis (albeit only one hit its still a block)
  • swiftness
  • stability
  • vigor
  • fury
  • retaliation

And you are saying protection for 7 seconds is the only one worth mentioning?
That retaliation with the retaliation in traits can be the end of a thief.
That regeneration for 7 seconds is health, how is that not good?
Stability for 7 seconds along with the stability from the trait, how is that not good?

All these boons are beneficial, yes some more than others but some are complete tideturners when used correctly. Protection / retaliation / stability / regeneration even that one aegis proc, all play a big part in combat especially 7 seconds worth of each, and I also mentioned earlier in a build like the one I linked you are looking at extra damage for every one of those boons on you.

I have Mendng (2 conditions + 1 random boon), SoS (all conditions), SoR (all Conditions).

During Zerg fighting I can initiate with SoR > Charge > pop some AoEs (GS / Axes) > Balanced Stance and out > SoS to wipe conditions > Mending if I need it

Long zerg fights last for more than 48s in which case I do get to use it a second time.

It’s true that 5s is only a short span of time, but during those 5s I feel like a God of War ^^

There is no way earth and forge runes are any better. The earth runes offers you protection only for 4s on 25%, and a pathetic magnetic shield below 20% ( which offers. Othing at this stage) for internal 90CD. An entire rune set for 4s protection?
Runes of lyssa fives you 10s protection, and far more boons which are worth it, on the 90CD of your earth runes.
Oh yeah you also have constant 6% increased damage from empowered for having perma swift, might and fury. 16% increase for 10 seconds overall over your earths. Cool down.

I have tried this combo before and it was really good but IIRC lyssa has as 50sec CD therefore and imo using signet mastery is a mistake because could mess the proc of the rune for a full elite cycle.

Actually magnetic shield is pretty useful bust mostly if you run solo or zerg surfing without a guild (when you can run away like a rat when things go wrong). I cant count the times that i have scaped from several players just because of the shield blocked the few extra range attacks that otherwise would have finished me, either solo or in the middle of a zerg.

Due to your post referring to an already deleted post, your post was deleted as well.

It does as far as i know have a 50 second internal cooldown, this being said though i am unsure of if it is lag or what but i can hit my signet as soon as it comes off cooldown and gain all the buffs again. if it is just lag and it is possible to miss it then it’s kind of user error, signet mastery brings the cooldown to 48 seconds so it’s just a case of giving it a couple seconds before activation, that’s if you really want to use it back to back.

Rskippy, what did you mean by pvt armor?

I assume with this Lyssa ruin as it boosts precision, he’s put max traits in precions and toughness? Any ideas how his other trait points are assigned.
I’m literally a week away from gettting twilight, kind of bummed I bothered with it now if mace/sword is the best combo.

He definately didn’t use any immunity skills, bull charge etc. I suppose Twilight could be sold and I could buy a legendary mace/sword.

You selected a soldiers armor set (toughness/vitality/power) As far as I’m aware the only set that matches that configuration is Wvw armor? I can’t find any item on the market for example, that has shoulders with toughness/vitality/power stats.
Would it not be worth getting power toughness, critical % just to make the critical hit chance insane?

I’m not overly keen on massing badges of honor to get all those toughness/vitality/power armor pieces.

The way i do it is 30% boon duration from traits, and 20% signet cooldown reduction.
(often run with 20% less shout cooldown too)

  • Then i use for great justice (10 secs fury on 20 second CD)
  • signet of rage (39 seconds fury with an extra 7 seconds from runes of lyssa so effectively 46 seconds) on a 48 second cooldown.
  • worst comes to worst and it’s stripped? greatsword F1 does the trick.

Badges is by far the easiest way (for me anyway), then there is soldiers gear from dungeon armour sets, as well as from certain karma vendors in orr, See here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_sets and scroll down to exotic karma sets and check those temple sets out and you will find a bit of it.

Also knights gear would work if you wanted to go the more damaging option, but then you would come out with a lot less health and you will simply die faster. the reason i go soldiers is i WvW quite a bit and survivability is key. arrow cart / balista fire tends to hurt a bit, this makes it less so. But by all means if you would prefer knights it would work, you can use that build calculator to get rough numbers of effective health / defenses etc etc etc.

Wow….the setup is much improved. I have mix and match soldier armour at the moment but it gives the needed stats. I’ll be able to get wvw soldiers shoulders by the days end to complete the full rune set. In the mean time I can keep picking up those badges to fund the armor over time.
The food and nourishment is fairly expensive – I can’t wait to see this setup with ascended trinkets though!!
Also, by using Twilight, I’d gain stat wise but lose the vital 100+ precision, so using Twilight doesn’t really work with this build? Perhaps I should buy a legendary bow instead.
One crucial part for me though is not using the Bloodlust Axe setup to stack bleeds on thieves, without this a cloaky could be a problem.

The nourish.ent does cost a bit, you could always go for the one bellow if you wanted cheaper, you wouldn’t lose out too much.
Not sure what stats twilight is, the legendaries are just skins though after all, only problem is that when ascended weapons come out and the legendaries stats are boosted I don’t think they will be effecting transmuted legendaries.

And as far as thieves go I quite like retaliation for them, pretty much only use 100b in their shadow refuge to flush em out or even better to kill them. Thieves are a big reason I take the trait for retaliation for 5 seconds when I’m hit by a crit over the 25% endure pain. Then I get retaliation when I pop signet of rage too. Retaliation will hit them for just shy of 400 each time they hit me (this includes auto attacks). This being said retaliation isn’t an iwin buttton against them, it does help though.

I had to give you rep because this is exactly how I feel whenever I play my warrior. The only thing I can do without getting owned is equip a bow/gun and fire at people off of a wall. I can’t find a single build that works well for me.

Perhaps try something like I linked? It works well for me and I felt similar about my warrior for a long time.

Your build looks like you couldn’t damage your way out of a wet paper bag, but you definitely will not get owned running that build by anything short of a zerg. Even the Zerg would be annoyed after they finished with you. Im usually not one for tank builds, but I might just give it a try.

I assure you it isn’t just a tank build.. whirling hits between 5 and 8k.. 100b between 7 and 11… Arcing arrow often hits for 6k or so, sometimes more.. one arcing even half healths a glass thief a lot of the time, for the builds survivability damage is rather good.

Quick update and sorry to bump.

The build is excellent and deals with MOST threats. I have only lost a 1v1 once and I was caught by surprise by a high damage dealing thief. I owned everything in the E.B jumping puzzle today and easily dealt with three guys trying to bully me. I say easily, they bunched up together too closely allowing me to sword spin them to bits.
This is a really, really well thought out and good setup. I do think that however the bull charge is absolutely essential, if they get hit with that, sword slashed then sword spun most players are over half dead and then panic and run. I haven’t even got the full critical hit trinkets on me yet, so a full Ascended pack will be insane….

Hi all, this build has my attention.
I am fresh 80 shout bunker build. 10/10/20/30/0. Pvt fighter runes.
My original intent was straight wvw but have started running CoF for weapons.

Would the build spoken about here do better damage therfore more efficient for CoF p1 runs than my current?
