I love my Warrior as she is awesome in pve, but increasingly I am frustrated with playing her in W3. (Tried GS, Ax/Shield, Hammer -several builds)
Too slow, no real cond removal, main heal popped you are toast (unlike several other classes that have several ways to heal damage), so easy to lock down , zero escape mechanics etc…

Ok, in a large zerg they are average/good as long as they have others to shield and help out but stray from the zerg and you stand little chance vs most other classes (and I am talking about equally skilled players before someone chimes in how they always noob stomp every class with their warrior).
Again, I asked in general chat why so few warriors, and our commander (on Gandara server) basically said they suck in w3… I had no reply to that.
I guess that’s why everywhere I look in w3 I see Guardians, Mesmers, d/d ellies and a few rangers… very few warriors, yet I go pen/shelter pve and warriors are all I see.

Is this how it is designed? if so, that’s ok.. i’ll use my warrior for farming and create another char for w3.

i used to play my warrior (axe/shield) ALOT. She is amazing in pve. When i started getting into wvw i found myself using a rifle more then anything and warriors at range just dont measure up to the other professions that deal same dmg but have all the goodies tailored to a ranged player.

I toyed with mesmer on spvp isle to get an idea of how it played and found the GS with berserker gear to be similar dmg to warriors axe but at 1200 range, stealth and clones. I love my mesmer now too but she isnt nearly as OP in pve as the warrior simply because skills like iBerserker have a traited down 12sec CD which is their huge source of dmg. The warrior you just auto-attack with and stuff melts with zero down time inbetween foes.

Seriously, try a GS berserker mesmer for wvw. They will suck till you can get stealth skills and later traits like dodge roll clones.

In coordinated groups a hammer warrior is very powerful, you can lock down a huge amount of the enemy team and keep them from rezing, it is especially powerful when chained with other warriors. They also are great for manning siege which is obviously very important.

Warriors are not the best roaming class if you want to leave the raid/groups. Mesmers, eles and thieves have that territory. A guardian and power necro is also good for roaming but lacks some of the escape skills of the other three so they run the risk of dying if they get outnumbered.

There is a big reason why you keep dying as a melee and why Justine found rifle to be a better choice. The problem is that you are in a ranged zerg.

In many warrior’s videos, you will see that they might not get attacked at all. Almost all of them have a common reason. They were cloaked in the stealth of chaos. When the entire zerg is pushing forward and colliding with the enemy, it is hard to be marked as a target. They were in a melee zerg.

Ranged zergs are too orderly. They usually have a strip of visible line between the enemy and the allies called the no man’s land. This is where it is easy to mark target. If you, the melee player crosses that line. It is easy to be marked as a target and get killed.

It is false that warriors suck at WvW. It is really the opposite. That huge cleaving damage will down plenty of players. You just cannot expect one warrior to take on the entire zerg themselves.

Several melee warriors or other profession that push forward together can easily mow down any ranged zerg.

my first 80 was a warrior, i wanted to w3 with him but it was hopeless. I use him exclusively for pve now and trained up an 80 thief for w3. Best decision i ever made

If they do, you have little cond removal, damage mitigation or escape options so you’d just have to grin and take a dive.

If you have problems with conditions, run soldier runes and heal/shout build. You will remove up to 4 conditions each 20sec.

If you have problems against thiefs, use a hammer. I don’t think I have lost a fight in WvW against a thief yet with hammer. Axe-mace is really strong too to burst things down quickly.

You can go with a lot of thougness and vitality to just be in the middle of the enemy zerg wacking things down. That is what I do mostly. Or you can go for semi-tanky and bash people down more at the outskirts of the enemy zerg.

Don’t use GS when fighting 1on1, it sucks.

But saying warriors don’t have a place in WvW than you can’t be more wrong, they are awesome in WvW. And saying they don’t have condition removal, you can’t be more wrong, a warrior can remove 20 conditions (4*5) each 20s, so that is 1 condition/ second if you see it that way.

ps.: I think your build just ain’t right for WvW.

Warrior’s mostly fine in W3, reading from your problems it’s a el two pee issue.
I’ll give you a quick overview.

Too slow

Permaswiftness + Rush + Savage Leap + WA + Bull = very fast.
Try to use some of these for chasing and keep the rest for disengaging.
Use Rush/Bull for engaging, down player, WA toward safety as both kill finisher and disengager, then swap to sword/warhorn, detarget and 4+2.
This should let you avoid most deaths.

SoS, SIO, Mending, Charge, Mobile Strikes (I don’t need this last one personally but I recommend it to new players).
It’s mostly fundamental that you counter cripple/immob/chill, other DoTs you can just outheal them most times.
You could always grab SoS which gives endurance regen on top of condition removal.
Also, you could use Lyssa runes so SoR will remove all conditions, but this depends on your build.

Healing is not the way you mitigate damage in this game.
EP gives you 3s of invul which you should pop when you predict you’ll be damaged.
If you want even more defense Shield block does the same, and so does Defy pain.

If you’re new to WvW I suggest starting out with all 3, so you last more in combat and realize how it works faster.

Again warhorn 4, mobility skills if you have Mobile Strikes and SoS remove these.

You can’t talk about “equally skilled players” because yours is currently in the low end of the spectrum.
As a Warrior I win most of my 1v1s unless it’s against OP builds (P/D thieves, D/D eles) but those will get a nerf next path.

Actually Warriors are a tonload in WvW still.
Top tier servers make wide and wild use of Warriors as we’re the only class capable of instant AoE downing 5 people and other awesomeness.

Don’t assume something is designed wrong, ask for advice and learn.

Of course this doesn’t mean Warrior is fine.
We still have Rush/Bull which are bugged and will fail by design sometimes, Bolas too is still to easy to dodge.

It is incredibly rare to be singled out in a zerg. In that case, just fall back to your zerg with survivability skills. Your melee zerg behind you should be a 1 second cripple walk and then fresh new frontline warriors will charge forward to cleave them away. If you get downed, your allies will revive you or you can self-revive depending on if your zerg is actually pushing forward. Afterwards, you can go back to the fight expecting not get singled out again.

Just don’t over extend yourself to the enemy zerg. It becomes easy to get singled out and hard to get revived.

Yeah, I get what you are saying, and after 600 hours as a warrior in w3 (no keep the newb comments please) I have tried most builds, I still say they are lacking vs other groups (ok they shine in zergs which you find a lot of in top tier but small groups better running with a Guard etc…)
Again, just my (and from what I hear most of my server) opinion and why I rarely see one in w3 on my server.
I’m currently running a shield/axe – sword/wh build (change to rifle occasionally).

I guess I love the small roaming gangs and warriors are not good for that but great for zergs (mindlessly swinging and hitting) a role my cond thief is great at :-)

Moral of the story:
Warriors are fine in WuvWuv…. you just need to run the 30/30/30/30/30 spec with rifle/hammer/shield+axe+mace/GS+sword+horn (for maneuverability) soldier runes with all shouts + Frenzy + signet of stamina + endure pain + balanced stance!

Then you can feel the versatility and capability on your warrior like guards/thieves/mesmers/eles!

Respec today! 530 spec or gtfo.

Oh if you meet a Thief, use hammer, but against Ellies/rangers use axe/mace, also use sword/horn to move, but also have shield for defence and don’t forget the rifle for ranged et al …

And as for If you have problems against thiefs, use a hammer. I don’t think I have lost a fight in WvW against a thief yet with hammer Those thieves should just quit the game now… No decent thief should ever lose 1v1 to a warrior -Hammer or not.

I have been scoring a lot more kills with my warrior than dying myself, despite using a sub-optimal build and not full exotic gear. I usually use dual swords + rifle + lots of group utility (shouts), but when situation changes I can swap to other weapons: longbow, hammer, greatsword, axes, mace, shield, warhorn. You should carry them all with you! My current kill rate is 1:10 in euro tier #1 as a warrior and I can be an asset to nearby allies (give them might, fury, remove their conditions etc). Warrior is also very good reviving downed allies (very common activity in WvWvW, you get your daily 10 revived allies fast).

But I feel that warrior lacks tools of disengagement compared to thief, mesmer and D/D elementalist, who are masters of getting away. Warrior is not that great for roaming alone.

Also don’t expect your warrior to be a tank. Dodge a lot, kite, hit and run. Using some blocking won’t hurt you either. Take some stunbreak skill and extra condition removal to your build. If you see an overwhelming enemy, run away!

BUT if you want easy kills in WvWvW: switch to thief, elementalist or mesmer, like everybody does. I see much more thieves than warriors in euro tier #1, despite many of them being invisible, not to mention that mesmers and elementalists are also extremely popular. Warrior can do well in WvWvW, but in my opinion it requires more skill than the aforementioned professions.

Warriors suck in PvP because we do not have any “cheap tricks”. Which are the classes that rule PvP?

Thieves, Mesmers and Elementalists.

What do they have in common? Cheap tricks like Stealth, clones and just generally awesome mobility. When it comes to Elementalists they also have awesome self-healing in Water attunment. Warriors have none of that.

You want to get better in PvP with a Warrior? I’ll give you a few options that you can do.

1.) Try to not ask “PvP” or “WvW” advice on the Warrior forums. Most of the people that will reply doesn’t even PvP let alone actually worked on getting better fighting other players.
2.) Ask good Warriors such as Defektive for advice via forum PM or in-game PM.
3.) Follow my stream and you might find the advice you’re looking for.

Also.. definitely agree with Elementalists and Mesmers being cheap classes. No point in picking ANY classes for those. Thief on the other hand? Its an L2P issue. When both Eles and Mesmers get nerfed to a reasonable level, Warrior will be fine.

So yeah i am one of the main wvw leaders in Radiant Knights on Black Gate (tier 2) in the EU time zone. I do not only lead RK into battle i often enough also have other guilds running with me.

Warriors are one of the single most useful classes in the game and have some of the best synergy of any class out there.
A warrior has some of the best speed buffs, disrupts, passive survivability and skirmish buffs in the game with options to modify and enhance them with out giving any thing up.

They also have solid damage and some great utilities that make them a kittenhreat that should not be underestimated.

The only two builds that I can’t beat are D/D Eles (OP against everyone not just us, Anet said they are gonna be nerfed next patch) and P/D Thieves.
If there is any other spec outside these two that you cannot beat it’s a L2P issue.

You can complain the buggy skills and the major lack of class depth, but you can’t say Warrior is bad in WvW it’s simply not true.
Now that people L2P’d to counter D/D Thief I get more kills on my Warrior than I get on my D/D Thief, go figure.

D/D Elementalists are just boring to encounter. They can’t beat you, and you can’t beat them – but – if they want to stop the fight they can very easily run away thanks to their “cheap tricks” such as Ride The Lightning.

As a Warrior you can’t really disengage in this situation. It is all or nothing in fights.

EDIT: Our Downed state is also possibly the worst when it comes to PvP. A single target knockdown does nothing when you’re up against two or more enemy players; they will stomp you. And they will always stomp you before Vengeance has charged up.

It really should be available as soon as you go down in PvP, like Vapour Form for Elementalists. You’re probably still gonna die (unlike Vapour Form) but at least you go down fighting…

My warrior use both PvE WWW good support open/close striker but not DPS or nuke or something just CC/distrub/shout.

Make enemy pain and scream like hell when they got distrub+stun and become life-sandbag for my team is feel so good.

Warrior is fearsome class outgoing dammage if u use right timeing.
And don’t play brave like Musou-gamer 1vs100 this is GW2 not musou!!

I wouldnt want instantly up although a 1-2s CD would be nice. One issue with vapor form is that if you happen to try to use your 2 skill at the same time or just before you go down you tend to instantly enter vapor form. While not so bad for an elei haveing vengence go off due to lag could deny you a rally unless you trait vengence.

i never play pve, just pvp, and my warrior is my most played char.
i find it extremely fun and flexible!

Just pick your fights better. But then agian I dont zerg. And no mobility? Sig of rage, bull rush, gs5 and 3? These catch or run from most. Dont expect to just spam 100 blades and pray. (That works on those puny backstab wannabe thieves though. Its adorable.)

Actually i found warriors pretty good for wvw , i’m using a tanky build 10/20/30/10 with a sword/shield and longbow with knight armor set and i have no problems with survivability and to kill enemies
