I’m not sure whether this belongs in the Warrior or Dungeon part of the forum, but as a warrior I’ve been doing a lot of P1 CoF lately. Everyone seems to want warriors on these runs and I’ve had a lot of success except for two spots. I don’t like slowing down or not helping my team through certain spots.

1. During the acolyte scene. I know about running to the caves, I know about running to the ledges, I still always die if I stay in the middle long enough to help my team. Then I have to waypoint back to before the bridge and run across. By then the event is or is almost over.

2. During the gate controller scene, I often die. I have my heal and my 2 dodge rolls (which I can place right to stay inside the dome.) I try to 100b quick so I can do enough damage to rally off someone, yet I always go down anyhow. Sometimes after a rally I go down again and have to run back from a waypt while my team waits. Think I got this part under control.

On my build: I am wearing mostly zerker’s so I’m a bit glassy, because people want high damage characters for dungeon runs. I usually take battle standard elite (save it for slaver or last fight) so I can’t use it at either of those spots. I need FGJ of course and I take one banner to help out the team (depending on what others have.) That leaves only one skill for me to play with. I use GS and do keep potions of flame legion for the damage reduction. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me make it through those parts of P1 runs? For the big battles I’m fine and never go down. (I’m fine vs Slaver and for the final battle.) It’s just those two points that get me.

Edit: Current build is usually something like this http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-sg-o;1RKkN0P4NLVQ0;9;4TT;0942849B;44X

Edit 2: Instead of healing and dodging I’m doing better just slicing them in the controller part, still taking advice on problem one.

It would be helpfull to peeps if you listed your build and traits so they could make suggestions on more helpfull traits.

Sounds like your mostly doing speed runs with the focus on pure damage. If you have some knights gear I would try replacing half your armor and see if that helps.

I run a shouts build axe/wh and have no problems with dying in cof 1. The added might/fury and vulernability really increases my whole groups dps. Might want to check it out if you have never tried that type of play before. It’s not as exciting as full g/c but makes youi more of a group player.

Are you running a signet build? Sounds like your a bit to focused on damage.

Acolytes could be tricky – yeah. Just move constantly.

But gate controller? How can you die there?

I had no problems there on my engi. And it’s even easier on warrior. You can try heal on crit food if you’re desperate.

I have moved away from signets, partially due to the laughter, but partially due to the fact that I need FGJ and banners to help the team so I don’t have enough signets up. Here is my build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-sg-o;1RKkN0P4NLVQ0;9;4TT;0942849B;44X
The banner changes depending on what other people are bringing. I do take knights gear on my helm, rings and legs cause the crit ratio on those items is low. The rest is zerker for pure damage output. People want high DPS warriors for these runs so it’s much easier to get into a group if I have zerkers. Some groups make me ping gear if they are really serious about speed.

Like I said before, most of CoFP1 is easy, it’s just those two parts that usually get me.

It’s embarrassing. Sometimes I make it, but in my last few runs I was at least downed each time. I don’t want to switch my food, as I’m doing these runs for money so I want the +40%.

If I can position myself so I get all of them with 100b, then I can rally off them to get back up. Otherwise I usually go down and am in trouble. Maybe switch to something with shield for 2nd weapon set to buy some time with a block?

Just another thought. If I were to give up the 5% power goes to vitality and take 10 less in strength, would I make up for the 100 lost power with the Empowered trait in tactics? If so, that would buy me a little more vit and boon duration.

You can also try to run around the brazier but inside the fire cage, while spamming #1. This way mobs will lose time trying to get in position, and you’ll be hitting them anyways.

Groups that make you ping your gear to make sure you are fragile enough for their tastes deserve to sit and wait while you run back to them. Karma’s a kitten.

Seriously, we need to get a handle on these WoW rejects who are bringing their addiction for inspection views to games where such behavior isn’t wanted. Maybe Anet should seriously consider making this an offense meriting stripping the offender of his tokens and equipment for that dungeon.

This sort of thing did happen in the speed clears in GW1. I recall having to ping my skills each time doing the 100b or EoE parts of FOWSC and if I didn’t have every single one perfect I would get dropped from the party. I used to want to bring one extra spirit.

Of course if I wanted to fool people I could ping the zerker’s gear I have and wear soldier’s/knights gear anyway, but I want to be an honest teammate and contribute in the way people want me to.

I’m usually focusing on dodging and trying to get all three in the same spot for 100b, but maybe running in a circle would be a better bet. I’ll try it next time. Thanks.

Posted this also in your guru-topic but gate-lock killer should kill lock in 5-10 seconds. If you can’t survive that long then something is really wrong.

I agree which is why I’ve asked for help. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Some people have posted good ideas involving my second weapon swap. Part might be just inexperience. I admit, I have no experience with glass cannon warriors or with GS warriors either. In fact guardian is my main and on warrior I’m more comfortable with axe/mace or axe/axe and not in zerger gear. (I only got the zerker gear and exotic GS to do P1 runs because parties were demanding Mes or War only and that the warrior must be GS.)

Overall the runs still go well. Even when I die, the controller part still goes smooth cause I’m usually just downed at the time the control hits 0 so the party can move on. But then to waypoint takes time and I reach the battle late. I’ve been on about 30-50 of these runs so far, and they go perfect except for these two spots. I just want to be better for my team and make sure I don’t hold the runs up.

What exactly do you do during those 10 seconds?

Edit: typo

Ok so unless your very tanky shout heal warrior your not wanting aggro in the acolytes room, so unless you have such a warrior or guardian in the group you will need to run to the cave or braziers etc, abuse spy kits

The gate controller just go in there and pop defy pain, frenzy and balanced stance if you want it down super fast otherwise just pop balanced stance.

You can do these runs in 9 mins with support based parties with guardians etc, if your going to play glass make sure you can stay alive or your just gimping your group.

I’m used to 8 minutes or less in the good runs I’ve been doing. They work, I just hate it when I die and am not contributing to the next part cause I’m running back. I don’t like playing glass, but if you look on gw2lfg you’ll see parties demand Mes/War full DPS, and I’ve often been asked to ping gear.

I do run a lot and use caves, ledges in the aco scene. I can generally take one out safely and flee, but when I try to help further I always get caught and die in the Aco scene.

If you dodge twice, use shield block and use endure pain (long cd so better not use!) it should be over by then.

I don’t run CoF really often and I usually I go to kill gate-lock (as I can do it in about 5 seconds). If you are full damage you might try lock instead
Frenzy, FGJ!, Signet of Might, Signet of Rage.
Try dodge initial flamethrower attack to avoid knockdown (or frenzy to break).
GS BladeTrail → Frenzy → Hundred Blades (hit flamethrower-guy too to build Might) → Axe Eviscerate → Chop chop

Your build is way too focused on damage. Damage is great, but you don’t have to have the maximum achievable damage if that means you’re going to die. Balance your traits around survivability. You mentioned using a banner to support, use Discipline, but trait it to give permanent regeneration. You also might want to use Adrenal Health (+120hp/sec), which adds some toughness as a bonus. Last but not least, use life steal food to take advantage of your high critical rate.

CoF is pretty easy using a supportive build. I usually run with another Warrior, whom uses a Banner configuration while I run a shout configuration. He uses Berserker, while I use Knight. Since I have more toughness, I always get aggression so I’m the designated tank. The room with the acolytes is pretty weak, you can even kill everything when your allies have a decent build too. If not, just whirl through and regen. Also, I’m mixed supportive so not the highest damage possible, but still run 6.30m~7m for P1.

I wrote this guide which might give you some ideas, and the build I use:

Here’s my build:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-sg-7-0-NKFO0Y4kL-60;9;4ETE-94;049A1;34;04-F0Iw

Armor / weaps are berserker, lower jewelery slot are berserker and upper jewelery slots are Cavalier with emerald jewels (not sure if I put emerald jewels into all slots). I use life steal food (Omnomberry pie). So I didn’t sacrificed that much damage, but I can definitely survive much better then full zerk. If u want to spend money on sup sigil of strength (on crit might), then replace sigil of Air with it.

With this, you can die only if you don’t have mobs to hit Otherwise it’s usually one 100B from low health to full health.

ad 1st question: I usually kill one right away and that back to the ledges (messing up AI with jumps between them), if i see new acolytes, I whirlwind/charge to then and slice them fast, then repeat the ledges stuff.

ad 2nd question: Dome defense it’s just matter of 100B with pie and runing in circles around the brazier (mobs usually follow rather then hitting you through it) when 100B is on CD. For oh-crap moments, you have endure pain. Or swap to axe and cleave their kitten img src="/include/images/smilies/smile.png" />

This build work basically in any dungeon, only difference is that for example for AC, I swap endure pain for stability stance, rest remains same. Oh and I also carry longbow around for times when u need range.

Assuming that you are going full glass cannon berserker gear and everything.
Whirling, throw sword, run away, they should be dead by the time the boomerang comes back.

lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.

If you die at acolytes…just use ranged and avoid the rest of the mobs.

Or take sword/shield secondary + endure pain (you don’t need anything to help your team there anyway if you’re not killing the rest of the mobs, just a rez banner perhaps) and if you go to melee acolytes you just jump out with sword 2 or block/endure pain it.

Idk, dodge is your friend and also, if you see whole room going for you, just leave your team to take on those little acolytes and kite them, don’t be a hero tanking all the mobs when being squishy.

For the acolytes just keep running around around the room waiting for the new acolytes. Abuse your dodges to gain distance and you will be fine.

For the gate part, if you are the glass cannon of your party, then you should be the one destroying the controller, not on the braziers. Just go in there and you will burn it fast. I run with a much more defensive/supportive build (sonic boon) and it dont take me more than a minute to destroy it. Just position yourself out of the shaman line of fire and you will be safe to destroy the controller.
