Warrior's Appeal
In other MMO, you choose Warrior. In Guild Wars, Warrior chooses you !
(edited by Lampshade.7569)
Great gameplay. Leveled some classes (thief, ranger, necromancer, guardian) but warrior is pure fun for me.
Raw strength with a lesser need for magic.
When I flatten someone with a hammer, its due to me being so boss.
Putting Perspective on Zerg Sizes since 2012. Common Suffixes for 40+ include ~Zilla and ~Train
“Seriously, just dodge.”
High stats, 5 second weapon swap and most importantly HAMMERSTUN!
One of my favorite parts is the looks. So many awesome armor and weapon choices. Of course, running around destroying with all those weapons is fun too!
Because playing as a DPS takes actual skill. Not like Power Necro, Ranger or Guardian with their infinite evades and instant cast offense and defense.
Also so good at baiting dodges and stun breaks in PvP. Literally everything you do people are inclined to dodge or burn a defensive cool down if you DO make in range.

Warrior used to appeal to me because it was a really powerful class, but now it doesn’t really feel like a rewarding class to play.
Despite the fact that it needs some serious buffs in the damage compartment, it still has some advantages over other classes in terms of high base health, healing signet, defiant stance in some situations, a brokenly overpowered trait called Phalanx Strength, etc.
OP you can give the class a test run to see if you enjoy it but as someone that’s learned the ins and outs of the class and played it for an unhealthy amount of hours, the honest truth is that warrior just isn’t the same as it used to be and is in a rather underwhelming state at the moment.

But lately I usually end up playing LB +Sw/Wh.
Warrior doesn’t feel so much like a knight to me as a shock trooper.
I rolled a warrior first, and then dropped it at around level 15 in favour of an engi. Then I came back to it and it’s been my main ever since.
I like the fast paced, balls-to-the-wall style I can run by going heavy cc and damage and, as per Black Truth, I find it takes more skill to be a threat in higher-level play than when I run dps builds on other classes. People say warriors require no skill, but warriors are so obvious in combat that no skill=dead warrior because you won’t land anything.
I also agree with Miku though, in that warriors have experienced a considerable dps downgrade over the last year or more, though it does have some useful roles it can play in a team. Unlike Miku, I actually find it rewarding when I can outplay stronger builds and classes, and losing to them seems to motivate me to improve and find ways to beat them despite the handicap.

This is why you will never be taken seriously.
Warrior is by far the most durable class.
Guardians can go invest a lot of points into mandatory traits to end up with sustain that is almost as good as a raw Healing Signet.
And they still lose 7k hp compared to Warriors because of their “superior sustain”
Warrior just has this brute force playstyle that no other class really offer because they are all either squishy or have inferior sustain for long fights or have to spend a ridiculous amount of trait point into making up for those 2 disadvantages.

You make it seem like warriors don’t have mandatory traits. Literally every viable warrior build needs to spend a minimum of 4 points into Defense, most 6 points, just to have this lauded “innate” sustain everyone keeps talking about. On top of that, they have only a single viable off-hand weapon just for basic condition cleansing, meaning Longbow is mandatory is every single sPvP build, and other than shoutbow every warrior build is forced into stance utilities. Every single utility is defensive in nature, even for shoutbow, just to have this free sustain warrior gets I keep hearing about.
I could also go on about the whole mandatory 4-6 points into the Discipline line for basic utility, but I don’t want to dare seem like a warrior sympathizer.
Maybe at launch or beta when everyone was dying to eviscerate builds or still running around with zerker staff eles and power shortbow rangers, did warriors have an advantage. Now people are actually intelligent, and active mitigation paired with active healing will always be superior to any sort of passive mitigation in GW2.

Because I never get tired of Bull’s Charge → Hundred Blades insta-owning Thieves and squishies in WvW as a full zerk Warr. That and swapping to sword with intelligence sigil and pegging people for 8 – 12k with Final Thrust.

Warriors are squishy as hell any burst class/build almost insta kills them lol
passive heals does not worth anything in this game nowdays when eles and thiefs just 7k spam your face and outheal you…..

What was the point of saying this? The OP asked why we like Warrior and what makes it fun for us. I responded accordingly. And now you’re criticizing? People on these forums never fail to surprise me at how often they forget that this is a video game where you play it to have fun. Not all of us want to be top tier minmaxing PvP’ers. Some of us want to be casual… I don’t give a flying f_ck if it only works versus bads, it’s still fun.

Warrior was definitely my fav class at the start, but most of it’s appeal has vanished.
Some things that are still fun:
-Landing big hits like Earth Shaker and Eviscerate
- Having a pretty good variety of utilities to select
- The nice design of the shield can really help with survivability
- Fast Hands
- Nice fury up time
- Easy access to Stability
But nerfing SoRage, taking away Lyssa Runes, reducing the damage of our weapons, not having anywhere near the survivability everyone thinks we have, losing to every class except Necro in 1 v 1, and being relegated to being a support class kinda takes the fun out of it.
100 blade, whirlwind, and bull’s charge (when it actually works). The most satisfying moves in the game. Not to mention, fast mobility. All this while using the best looking weapon in the game – Eternity.

Most likely they don’t give a **** about 100b. They just laugh to death when reading in the same sentence : Necro, infinite dodge, instant cast time.
Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t kitten myself from laugh while reading it.
Heavy armor is nice. Light and medium have some decent models, certainly, but Heavy seems to have the largest selection of models that I like to use. Do I want to look like a bruiser, covered head-to-toe in thick plate? Done. Do I want to look like a skirmisher? Lightly armored and mobile? Done. Heavy armor is the only set where I keep finding more appearance combinations that I like and want to run around in, instead of finding one or two and only sticking with those.
Along with that, I find it hard not to enjoy the straightforward aesthetic of being a Warrior. From weapon skills to utilities, our abilities seem to stick to a ‘simple but effective’ ideal. No stealth, no real combat tricks, no magical/pseudo-magical abilities, just staying alive while trying to beat your opponent into submission. It’s cathartic, and I’ve yet to have any other class in GW2 match that kind of enjoyment.
In general, the strengths of a Warrior are the kinds of things I want for what I like to do in this game. I like the balance of power and durability, I like their options for self-healing and defensive abilities, and I enjoy how their weapon skills look and feel. Their weaknesses don’t really bother me, either. Even the bugs and problems with some of their mechanics fail to break the class for me. Warrior was the first class I rolled in GW2, and I keep coming back to it no matter how many alts I raise to 80. It’s just a lot of fun to run around on.
Because playing as a DPS takes actual skill. Not like Power Necro, Ranger or Guardian with their infinite evades and instant cast offense and defense.
Bran.7425 , thank you for finding this gem.
I like double axe.
I’m a noob and casual gamer, I don’t really care, about being the best.
I just think it looks cool and since i mainly play PVE it is okay like this. I don’t care much about PVP or WvW or if other classes are “better” I just like it.
the armor looks cool and I like thast the moves are not so “magical”.
I’ve aleady played warrior in GW1, since they didn’t die so fast, had the coolest armor and just didn’t look so much like a hooker, like some outfits for eles.
i also play other classes, but Warrior is especially fun to me.
(edited by Oreithyia.3064)
Warrior is the (theoretical) middle ground between a burst class like teef and something more sustain based like Guardian. Obviously, you can build how you want and go more towards tank or burst but I would say that middle area is where the class excels.
It’s a class that allows you to easily stomp noobs, but becomes more rewarding vs higher skilled players. While the nerfs have made the class a bit weaker, it makes landing the harder hitting attacks all the more satisfying.
Just landing your skills isn’t enough as well, you also have to know what your enemy is running and use just the right amount of skills to bait out their countermeasures before going for the kill. Hammer becomes a joke if you waste your Backbreaker, the strength of the weapon comes from chaining together its CC.
As much as I complain about Warrior, the majority of weapons are pretty well designed. What’s lacking is mostly trait and utility design. There’s also the general instability of the servers recently that has made using certain weapons a pain.

I guess many people in this topic play warrior because of Blacktruth.
But yeah, smashing stuff with hammer is great. I also really like greatsword. And warrior has the best aesthetics.
Hulk Roaming Montages/Build Vids
I always rage but never quit.
-has both, the highest health and armor in the game
-because of that our “glass cannon” builds arent as glassy as other professions
-has great self regen, and healing shouts increase your survivability even further
-tons of weapons to chose from
-is able to support via regeneration boons, banners, healing shouts as well as massive spread of might boon
*however if the warrior isnt traited, you just have a bunch of weapons that deal damage only…barely any “utility” in the weapon skills, its just damage damage damage.
Unlike for example guardians where its different kinds of symbols ,blocks, blinds, various aoe boons and heals and combo finishers. So some people get bored of the class cause of that
Playing Warrior feels like you have to put in twice the work for half the outcome!
Because playing as a DPS takes actual skill. Not like Power Necro, Ranger or Guardian with their infinite evades and instant cast offense and defense.

Not sure if trolling or…
-has both, the highest health and armor in the game
Alright, that is true but stands for jack when the profession has nothing to back it up.
-because of that our “glass cannon” builds arent as glassy as other professions
Extremely false, you shouldn’t lie to people. You will drop faster than any other
profession running full berserker simply because warriors have almost no active defense due to your point number one above.
-has great self regen, and healing shouts increase your survivability even further
Yes you can spec to be useless in PvE and only be able to sit on a point in PvP while not going down as fast as you would be in glass.
-tons of weapons to chose from
True, it is just a shame that quite of few of the skills are useless compared to a vast majority of other professions skills.
-is able to support via regeneration boons, banners, healing shouts as well as massive spread of might boon
Again useless spec. The might sharing is only good in random groups that are not coordinated/know enough to do anything.
What makes the Warrior appealing to you?
Because in Guild Wars 1, Warriors were machines and to be feared. If I could choose again with the knowledge I have today I most likely wouldn’t play Guild Wars 2 at all. If you are looking for a good class to play I would suggest either Thief, Elementalist, or Guardian. Thief is extremely cheap and easy to play. Elementalist takes a little bit more (not very much mind you) skill to play but deals quite a bit more damage. Guardian is just what the Warrior should have been in terms of defense and offense.
Guardian is a low skill floor low skill cap version of what warrior can be:
http://www.twitch.tv/blacktruth009/c/6259903
http://www.twitch.tv/blacktruth009/c/6269321
Fixed. Also the mentality which states Warrior has such a low skill floor low skill cap needs to disappear. How many people do you see play DPS Warrior? Oh right, they’d rather play Guard right because it’s so EASY.
No one knows how to chain CC while DPS’ing, No one knows keep track of dodges and no one knows how to bait cool downs. That’s why people keep saying Warrior is bad in every form other than shoutbow: Because people would rather play easy stuff and stay bad while never improving so that builds take skill become more viable.

Oh man, too bad that Necros have infinite dodges, or you’d be able to use your leet dodge counting skills on them too. Alas, one cannot keep track of that which is beyond counting.

Life Blast has a 1 second cast time. Add the aftercast and the travel time of the projectile you’re looking at about 2 or more seconds for one Life Blast. Maybe you’re thinking of our underwater version of Life Blast called Plague Blast which shoots much more faster.
Warrior is a very good blend of simplicity, effectiveness and great aesthetics.
