Hi. First, I’m the fan of bows:) I play all 3 professions which can use bows :P And this is about the damage part: Looks like that Warrior’s LB can do more dmg than Ranger’s LB. I tested both of them and i kill stuff faster with my Warrior. Also i’ve been killing some LB rangers with my Warrior by only using my LB, without touching melee weapon. All i need to do is to stay as close to them as possible and don’t let them to shoot me from 1000 + range. How is this possible? On the other hand, dmg on my Thief’s Shortbow is very very low compared to these two professions …

I disagree, the LB #2 for Rangers is like an eviscerate on an 8 second cooldown if the shots land (and 1500 range lol), and their auto attacks can crit for 3k nearing max range consistently. If you can position a good Barrage, can also crit for 800-1.5k 12 times.

Warriors LB has Arcing arrow (nerfed) as their only high damage dealing ability (other than point blank LB #2) as condi, the bleeds from LB 5 and burns from F1 are formidable though.

If you are killing LB rangers with a purely LB warrior, then sorry to say, those rangers were just horrible…

You honestly must of faced some pretty bad rangers if you killed them only using the longbow.

The ranger longbow has much stronger single target burst (auto attack and rapid fire), not to mention better range and the option to make the velocity and cast time of the arrow go faster.

Also the #3 and #4 on the Longbow for ranger allows you to kite your enemy and set up some deadly combos.

Longbow gameplay for a warrior is totally different then the gameplay of a Longbow for a ranger. Honestly it is really unfair to compare the two because not only is the gameplay different, the role that both of them fulfill is way different. It would honestly be more fair to compare Ranger Longbow to a Rifle, as counterintuitive as it might seem. Warrior Rifle is more similar to a Ranger Longbow than a Warrior Longbow.

A warrior Longbow isn’t really used at range (kind of weird for a weapon called longbow not to be used as a marksman type weapon). It is best used in semi-melee to melee range. It fulfills the role of high AoE damage through combustive shot and arcing arrow, the role of condition removal as it is pretty much guaranteed with Cleansing Ire as well as utility through a fire field and blind. It also has condition damage and a mild CC.

So to recap a Ranger Longbow strengths are

- High single target burst damage
- Very long range
- Ability to kite and set up burst

A Warrior Longbows strengths are

- High AoE damage (also both power and condition damage)
- Amazing condition removal with Cleansing Ire
- Utility

Comparing both weapons as you can see is like comparing apples to oranges here. Both have their advantages and disadvantages in certain situations. Ranger longbow excels at long distance fighting and Warrior Longbow excels at medium to melee range fighting.

Thief shortbow again is a totally different weapon from both of these. The auto attack might be weaker but it fires a lot faster and it bounces twice by default. It also has a little bit of AoE and a little bit of CC. However it has a lot of mobility/evades which is the selling point of this weapon. Maybe in a certain situation the thief needs to deal AoE damage from a relatively safe distance and this would be the weapon for it.

The simple answer is that rangers get damage from weapons and pet.

If a ranger is killed by warrior’s LB, he/she must be a bad ranger.

If a warrior only attacks by LB without switching to melee weapon, he/she must be a bad warrior.

Have you ever tried more toughness kind of Warrior, with Healing Signet and Adrenal Health, Banners, with + healing? Why should i switch to melee, if there is no need for a melee? Just because some smart warrior says so or just because i’m a warrior, i should stay in melee, that’s my job!? Just stay close enough to him and don’t let him/her shot you from 600+ range … I go melee only when i’m fighting vs other melee or when i’m defending a small area, like Points in SPvP. I’m not that stupid to switch to melee weapon vs a LB Ranger who can easily avoid 50% of my melee hits: out of range, miss, out of range, knockback, miss, out of range, miss …

And about Rifle: dmg (single target) is much lower, compared to LB dmg, with exception of f1.

Not going to tell you your play style is wrong Sifu, but at the highest levels of play you will need to use every possible advantage you have to win fights. There’s a kiting tactic where you weave in, through and behind opponents to negate ranged attacks, and some players eventually will slide into that if they see you sitting on ranged. If they are doing a particularly good job your skills will repeatedly go on a 3 second cooldown, and that’s when it would be a good time to whip out the melee.

Aside from auto attack it isn’t lower but that huge of an amount. and Warrior LB has lower single target damage than Rifle.
