Warrior, thief or guardian
I would go with rev, personally. It combines thief and guardian together and does the job better than both, takes a long time to master though. Has perma boons through herald, can deal a huge amount of dmg 1v1, very hard to kill unless they’re slamming you with condi, and provides a ton of support to your team. But really, just go with what you want. Being the most viable and the most fun are very different. Rev is the most viable out of the 3 right now across all game modes but def is not the most fun. Play all 3 for a few hours, go into the mists and play some unranked and pick the one that you like best.
I have all 3 of them sadly I don’t have much of a PvP experience but about the others I can tell in a nutshell
My main is a Warrior but because of the GW2 unique character style I created 2 more I like the shadowy approach of the thief and the purity bastion guardian but the heavy brutal warrior still rocks for me but this have some mechanical and ingame reasons too.
I start with the thief.
The thief is good for skiping content via Stealth but you have to watch youtube videos and play alongside others to teach you how and where to put your stealth fields,It’s dps is considerable but it’s survivability just sux and with more One Hiter npc’s now is even worse,as Daredevil you can survive somewhat longer because of the dodge-attack-dodge rotations but more than 2 hits you wont survive in a boss fight and this is the lucky case. For PvP is one of the best professions you can have.
Guardian is well rounded but again lack of hp,he pay a huge cost for his defensive abilities and even in Heavy armor he dies almost faster than the thief, works well in teams and with the Dragonhunter specialization he can do decent damage and keep the range. For PvP is very good, support and a bunker guardian can hold a point longer than any other profession,
Warrior,I found the warrior profession the most balanced and easy to learn hard to master profession. You won’t be downed in a hit or 2 especially with defense tree which almost every warrior have and it’s hp pool is much higher than any of the professions. In PvP is very team based and easy to kit most of his builds but with someone who can lock down a foe for you, then you can do serious damage in the enemy lines.
All 3 tested with Berserker Gear Warrior-Guardian with Zojja Ascended.
About Revenant,I regret that I wasted lvl 80 boost on him,Reaper would be much more of use.
I have a decent amount of experience with warrior, guardian, and rev.
IMO, warrior and rev are prob the most versatile right now, that is they are good in all 3 game modes. However, having to live thru multiple patches as a warrior main taught me that Anet seems to always either over buff or over nerf warriors in general. I believe this is due to warrior’s simplistic playstyle.
In terms of Guardian, its most powerful spec now is part ranged (so is warrior depends on game mode). So it might not be your cup of tea. I didn’t quite enjoy its melee skills when I was playing it, you just don’t feel having the same power as that of Warrior. If you like a strong melee spec, I would also recommend Engineer (scrapper)
However IMO the best class right now is Rev. It kind of combine warrior, guardian and thief. And if you want conditional pressure, you can spec that too.
Hi fellow Guild Wars 2 players!
I saw a similar threat above regarding choosing a warrior or revenant. I did not play the game for 1.5 years now and I wanted to start again.
I am interested in all aspects of the game, that is pve spvp and wvw. However I would like to use 1 character only for it and I love melee. The problem I had when I started was that warriors used very defensive builds in spvp. I am more like an offensive player.
My question is the following:
Which class (warrior guardian or thief) is viable in pve, spvp and wvw with an offensive play style? I understand it has to do with your personal skill level to make it viable, but apart from that, which one suits my needs the best?Thank you for reading!
I recommend Warrior or Rev.
Thief requires a very, very specific play style because of how glassy it is. Getting one shotted and two shotted gets old pretty quick (I’ve been maining thief for about the last 18 months).
Warrior is plenty offensive these days, if you want it to be. I recently switched to Warrior and have more fun than playing a Thief.
Rev is the expansion pack class. Enough said.

How does one choose between Warrior and Revenant for WvW roaming?
