Weapon versatility
i think it could probably work. i mean i always roll with a ranged and one close combat all the time, you never know when youll need to use long range or close. my fave so far i think, though it’s so hard to decide, is a longbow for ranged, and 2 hatchets for close. ive been focusing on critical strikes, but am trying to focus more on defense.
You probably won’t find too many LB/Rifle builds.
The reason is because it restricts versatility. In that regard, you’re probably better off trying to get out of combat to switch between longbow and rifle as needed, while using something else for the second set. I do recommend picking up both a rifle and a longbow even if you plan on using neither as part of your normal build. You’ll find reasons every now and then to switch in either one for a fight or two before going back.
As for greatsword and hammer, you have to build thoughtfully around it, but it can work. You would probably have to decide whether you’re using the greatsword mobility to close gaps for hammer smashing, or if you’re using hammer control to keep things in place for 100b, and select traits accordingly. It should work fine provided you’re using the utility of one to create opportunities for the other, rather than trying to make both equally viable in the same build.
Priorities, what to do?

I’m lvl 80 warrior and I use just about any weapon a warrior can(keep them in my inv) , and run 2 main builds, LB + Hammer for PvE, WvW and PvP I role with GS+ Rifle. IMO GS + Rifle is a fun build to just kill off ppl fast with, but is IMO better suited for 1 v 1 etc, where as the Longbow+Hammer build set up with 0-0-30-30-10 is ideal, since I can tank pretty nicely and do AoE’s. I will always leave the ranged weapon and switch out the hammer for S/s or axe/ Warhorn depending on the situation
I’ll agree with Corian about Longbow/Rifle. The 2 weapons don’t have much synergy together, but work great in different types of content. Rifle being more single target oriented works great for sPvP, soloing, dungeon bosses, and WvW roaming. Longbow on the other hand is more AoE focused and works better for things like the dynamic events (the burst skill will tag everything) and WvW seiging.
I always run around with a Greatsword in 1 weapon slot but my other weapon regularily changes between Longbow, Rifle, and Axe/Warhorn depending on what I am doing.

Longbow + Rifle combo can be fun, makes you feel like a beefier Ranger, they might not have the best synergy but if you’re having fun with it then it’s all good!
I generally use the Yojack build on my warrior which is very effective but I have a lot more fun when I’m using a longbow+rifle, and isn’t that the point of the game?
I use a build like this:

Give it a try you might enjoy it!
and isn’t that the point of the game?
If there was no PvP in the game then sure. With PvP in a game the point is to crush and dominate everyone that opposes you and achieve higher ranking than most.
Or:
“To crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women.”

If only we could use different weapons/gear in PvE and PvP. Oh wait.
Love the conan quote though.
Thanathos has the right idea, I do pretty much the same thing myself. I carry gs, rifle, LB, mace, axe, shield and warhorn with me. Everything has it’s use.
I didn’t like hammer though, it’s super pimp, but a bit too slow to be effective. Mace+shield does the CC job better and has the damage mitigation option the hammer lacks. Imo GS and hammer are both weapons that need to be swapped back and forth a lot to be effective. Wouldn’t use it in dungeons, because a lot of mobs ignore hammer attacks and in pvp you will definetly need a cap closer to get those hammer stuns/kd’s to hit. I’d prefer a high mobility or damage mitigation 2nd set there instead.
I’ve used LB/rifle together in very-very rare situations in dungeons where melee range is suicide. Can be used as defensive set in wvwvw also. Useless in spvp/tpvp. LB for immo and combofield/area finishers and rifle for high single target damage. Not that good synergy together though.
In dungeons I use GS/LB mostly, good AoE damage, control from LB and mobility from GS. I sometimes pick up mace+shield or axe+warhorn instead of one of the sets, when I need to kite aggressively or stunlock+reflect single targets. Rifle is good for ranged bursting.
Overall I love how flexible warrior is related to his weapon choices and ability to fill different roles on the go. And please no “jack of all trades, masters of none” quotes, that’s just plain wrong.
Thank you all for your replies here, the variety of choices is truly amazing feat for this class which i fall in love the more i play.
Tonight im gonna experiment in some skills calcs about your suggestion guys, you know get a placeholder.
Indeed having a particular set of weapons that excel in one area be it mobility or melee / ranged burst or control seems to be the way to fully take advantage of the various mechanics.
For Rifle/LB yes the idea was exactly for some specific dungeons or WvW if you also spec somewhat supportive.I dont see how it can work in sPvP but for WvW as chaotic as is it may be an option.
Keep it rolling boys and girls, give your ideas (if there is more to say anyway :P).
That’s what I like about the warrior too, the fact that u can use so many weapon sets. I usually just use the strongest weapons I pick up whatever kind it is because I seem to make any combo work for leveling and I just npc the rest, seems to make a lot of gold for me. The rifle lb combo for me seems like it was working better with mobs under my lvl but once they’re above u u really have to start kiting and i find kiting in pve annoying. But whatever combo u use always have a sword/wh and gs with u cause u can travel across the map so fast with that combo with the swiftness horn and leap from sword the rush with the gs and the spinning thingy (3) from gs
