Hey guys, a guildy of mine is looking to update his gear. We’re a WvW guild so his gear needs to be chosen for that – basically, group PvP in melee range.
We’re thinking Beserker’s or Knight’s, but unsure which. Beserker’s obviously offers more DPS, but will it make him too squishy? Knight’s loses the Crit Damage but has Toughness.
Also, I’d welcome any tips on what tactics, utilities and elites to use in WvW, since my own Warrior experience is very low.

I’ve been through crafted Rampager, Berserker, Knight, (and Explorer for PvE farming) with various Rune sets for each. I would highly suggest a mix of (3) Rampager/ (3) Knight or (3) Berserker/ (3) Knight for WvW as a starting point but it really depends on your Accessories as well. Cleric/hammer build is next on my list.
Tip: #1 priority for new players in WvW, build for perma-swiftness. You do a lot of running.

I personally run mostly knight gear as I prefer a bit more survivability than comes with berserker. Certainly if your guildy is intending to be in melee range most the time berserkers could see him dead fairly often.
As for tactics, utilities and elites that really comes down to what works for him, just because one person really likes a particular skill doesn’t mean he will. I’d recommend he take a look at signet of stamina though for endurance regen and condition removal. I hadn’t used it until recently but have found it works perfectly for my play style.
Runes of Melandru < Can’t spell the name, are pretty good for single target combat as they reduce condition duration and stun duration also add toughness. But over all it depends on what weapon set up you are using.

Lyonell, for WvW I’m looking for some more AoE based gear. Do you, or anyone else recommend anything for that other than the classic Runes of Divinity?
I run a 30 – 20 – 10 – 10 – 0 build, with berserker on the main gear, and knight on the jewels rings etc for that extra defense.

At the moment I’m running with the Power/Vitality/Toughness set, Berserker accessories and the “Superior Rune of the Ogre”. Main weapon set is axe/shield and Hammer for secondary.
The armor and runes combined with a shout heal is working great, giving the fact that HP pool is relatively high, toughness is moderate-high and your dps is complemented by the Runes + accessories. I know that the Rune of the Soldier has the shout heal condition removal, but since I’m running 0/0/30/30/10 (Discipline for the 20% recharge on signets), I have a condition remove every 20 seconds, as well as a full condition removal every 36 seconds from my signet.
It’s really not focused much around any group utility, other than the ability to switch the shout traits for banner traits instead, as well as the ability to be first-line-defense for your light-wearers. The heals are kind of miniscule compared to the dmg output this game offers, but so far this build has done me more good than any of the other’s I’ve tried so far.
I run 6/6 Valkyrie gear (Pwr/Vit/Crit Dmg) with Emerald Knight’s Trinkets (Pwr/Pre/Tuf) and 6/6 Lyssa Runes.
Works for a variety of specs.
