What armor sets do you guys run in WvW?
PVT with 6/6 Soldier’s Runes and a Hammer. Sword/Shield on Weapon Switch
Y’know, I was thinking of using that. Then use mending as the heal skill. And warhorn with that trait that lets you turn one condition into a boon using it.
Seems like it would be a decent build for roaming.

Unfortunately, probably not. Even with hammer, sword and shield CC, you’ll find it very difficult to lock down the classes that roam most e.g. mesmers, thieves. Furthermore, if you are able to get them in a stun combo, your PVT armor will likely prevent you doing enough damage to kill many builds.
Personally, for my playstyle, that there are two viable armor sets for a warrior in wv3.
1) Berserker’s armor for glass cannon roamers who try and get the jump and burst down enemies before they realize what’s happening.
2) Soldiers (PVT) for giving you good survivability in a zerg, where your CC abilities can help your group. There are some great builds for hammer warriors on the forums too which utilize Unsuspecting Foe to provide a strong burst attack too.
Of course it’s possible to run a middle ground with Knight’s armor, or a combination of both, but this is at least how I see how to make yourself most effective.
TLDR; soldier’s armor isn’t what you want to go with if you’re roaming.
Well, at least I have a full set of berserker’s gear already. At least if I want to roam then, I can use my PvE gear in WvW.
I could go knight’s with cavalier’s trinkets though…
For random zergs I use full zerker and rifle and stick in zerg and rip people apart (13-15K killshots FTW). For organized WvW with guild I go full PVT with hammer and mace+shield and act as front line zerg breaker.
What is your build and playstyle? Some weapons and attacks scale better with power.
For example, I roam with full serkers and have a 100% crit chance on my eviscerate. Because of the 2.18 coefficient on a full eviscerate and my 2.5 crit modifier, switching to something with less power has a substantial impact on the success of my build.
Without knowing your traits, weapon choices, and playstyle, it is a lot harder for people to give advice worth following.
I’m not sure on all traits yet, but for sure I’m getting leg specialist and mobile strikes.
I want to go for high mobility in at least one weapon set. Probably not greatsword though, because while I enjoy the mobility, 100blades is just too important, and I hate that skill.
Main-hand sword is definitely one of the sets, with warhorn. Even though it doesn’t scale as well with power as the axe, it seems like it’s still a strong weapon for power builds. For the second set, I would probably go hammer or axe+shield. I think for roaming it would be better to go for higher mobile damage (axe) or more CC (hammer).
If I go zerker in zergs, I would definitely go for a sniper build. Retraiting is pretty inexpensive.
well, beserker gear is not god awful, you just need to put ur traits right

If you are really trying to be super mobile you’ll have to use the GS. Sword will take care of a good chunk of that mobility but GS is needed also to actually be mobile. Even then you would have to add in bull charge to be the most mobile. With sword alone mesmer, ele, ranger, thief, Gs/Sw guardian, and other warriors stand a chance of catching you in mobile sets.
That being said you really don’t have to be that mobile. as long as you can get to a nearby camp, tower, etc. your’e good to go.

I use pvt but I’m thinking of shaving some vit for crit damage. I have a mix of accessories at the moment, some are pvt, 1 zerker piece and I forgot the rest. Truth being told warrior is the only class I barely see any difference on when running gear for some reason. Other than with full zerker, I seem to survive just “ok” and deal “ok” damage. But when I play any other class I seem to feel a bigger difference between gears than with my warrior.
If you run along with a zerg hammer with stances and the remove condition signet is the way to go. Along with long bow/shield + anything “sword may be your best bet”. If you run alone around GS/Sword shield and healing shouts.
I’m running berserker armor with 6/6 melandru and then a mix of soldiers and knights jewelery. Seems to be working ok so far. I used to run soldiers armor with 6/6 soldier.
This is with hammer main and GS for mobility.
Knights w/ 6/6 melandru runes and Cavalier ascended trinkets/backpiece.
Im thinking about this build recently, could you share your states ?
Now I currently run 6 Soldiers armor with rune melandru and Beserker ascended trinkets/backpiece, Knight wep.
Thats my current build.
PS for the greatsword haters: hate away people!

What this dude is saying. Warriors already have a high health pool. You can go runes of melandru for toughness or you can go runes of hoelbrak for a bit offensive -20 condition duration. Then add lemongrass poultry soup – 40% dogged march.
I run hoelbrak now all knights gear my setup is 10,10,30,0/20
People still running around WvW in all zerker gear o.O smh.

Like I said I run Dogged March and not sure footed, since buildcraft hasn’t been updated, Sure Footed is in it’s place.
I get amazing condition removal, have insane armor with a high base health pool, and, I get fury when I immobilize a target, given that I run sw/shield and Hammer I have 4 immobs, so I constantly have fury and it helps me position people for the big combos.
I’m working on a video as we speak. I sometimes swap Healing Surge for Mending, and Sig of Fury for Stamina sig, just depends. I don’t have ridiculous burst dmg, but I do have at least 75%crit chance up all the time with 45-55% crit dmg which isn’t bad.
And Sometimes I swap out force with Generosity sigil on hammer for the OP condi transfer.

Full Berserker gear with either Rubies or Hoelbrak runes. Or a mix of the two.
While I have 5 other armor sets I could be using I find the damage-to-survivability trade-off is too unbalanced to warrant anything else. If I need survivability I will run Defense traits and food or trade a few accessories.

PVT w/full soldiers runes and zerker weapons/trinkets. Hammer/Longbow with Axe/WH and GS thrown in depending on the situation. It’s my starter WvW gear build, as I’ve only started seriously playing W3 these past few weeks.
For those who ever consider adding in berserker gear for crit damage, take a look at the awesome table in the wiki page Item Nomenclature
So, it’s very efficient to have zerker jewelstones, and very inefficient to have it on leg and headgear. I personally run all exotic emerald jewellry (knights stats) with zerker jewels in them, knights on helm, chest, legs, and zerker on the rest.

Warrior lacks sustained survivability even with gear, so why waste stats? Utilize your burst survivability and mobility instead of trying to be the tank ANet claims you can be.

Warriors who focus on crits lack survivability; those of us built for survival do just fine, thanks.
1-v-1 is about killing before you’re killed, but group play is all about survival. When I watch GvG videos from a warrior’s perspective, they usually have close to (or above) 30k health. They’re in there at the front, CC’ing and soaking up damage, because everything that hurts them is damage taken away from a teammate. Successful groups have warriors & guardians at the forefront, taking beatings, while the real damage comes from behind. I enjoy going up against groups full of zerkers; they just melt. As stated above, it’s free badges.
“My numbers aren’t high enough” is a solo mindset, not a group one. If that’s you, stick to roaming, you’re more useful sniping than being in a sizeable group.

I focus on damage output in group play and I survive and contribute just fine. Even in my full Berserker setups I’m on the front-lines. You play it like a guerrilla fighter. Push the front lines, blow some people up, pull back for a sec, heal up, go back in.
I understand that full Berserker gets a bad rep all the time because of people assuming bigger numbers = better without understanding their class, but I’m not one of those people. I’ve got several months of WvW videos to prove it, too.
That being said, Beserker isn’t the only thing I run. Just the primary thing. I’ll run a standard defensive set if I’m specficially going for a damage-soaking Hammer build or a Healing set for a Banner Regen Warrior. But more often than not I’m running a guerrilla Berserker fighter. Longbow/Greatsword or Longbow/Hammer.

Mix of Berserker, Knights, Cavalier & Valkyrie.
Stats are
3150 armor
65% crit dmg
70% crit chance with fury (permanent unless stolen)
23-24 k hp
lots of power & might stacks (permanent 10+ might unless stolen)
Survivability for warri in my estimation comes from using invulns, blocks and dodge rolls for the big hits and tanking all the light damage.

I’ve been running berserker mostly and I am fairly new to this game so it was quite the adjustment. Ran a melandru build with zerker and dogged march to get some great condition removals which is great. I still wanted more survival.
So, as of late, which I haven’t tested fully is I now picked up mostly knights with melandru and a few zerker trinkets with zerker weapons. I’m a GS/Axe/Shield player with a 10/20/30/0/10 build – dogged march, last stand, shield mastery. You know the rest of the traits. Armor is now with a shield like 3400 (at work so not exactly sure). That should help. My critical damage took a big swing south but that’s the trade-off. I think it’s like at 35 or 40% extra critical damage instead of the 75%+ before.
I don’t have the inclination to farm soldier’s gear in PvE and the farming in WvW will come in time. Doubt I’d ever acquire them because I’m not the get in the front lines wielding a hammer and soak damage type player anyway.
Im running full pvt….bout 32k hit points….unbuffed. lemongrass poultry soup, superior sharpening stones. Using superior runes of melandru and main hand/ two handed weps have superior sigil of stamina. As pointed out…im there to soak up damage for my team mates. When roamin’ I run Taugrim’s Run n Gun spec.
I do the same for my mesmer…..pvt armor and such…to stay alive and get portals up, ect ect….while roamin…I run a full power/precision/crit damage set up…tossin phantasms out like candy.
