What profession would compliment a Warrior?
Thief (S/P) / Spirit Ranger are the first two thoughts that come to mind, although it’s hard to find a bad combo in the game at all while leveling.
It is hard to find a bad combo because there is no to limited synergy in this game. In fact, it is hard to find a good combo too.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

There is plenty of synergy…
@OP I would take a condi Necro as a Warrior leveling buddy any day of the week. You round em up and use your cleaves while he destroys them with aoe conditions.
Then his AoE conditions go onto cooldown, and the warrior has to wait 30 seconds for the necro to get back his skills.
The necro will have to attack one mob at the time because most of the weapons auto-attack are single target only.

Have you leveled a Necro to 80? Sure doesn’t sound like it, I have and what you describe is most certainly not how it went at all.
Another warrior…
Joking (but it’s true) aside, any condition based prof would be bad since the warrior could kill before the condition’s duration finishes.
With that, any prof that can give consistent boons would be better. Staff guard with empower (12 stacks of might at a fairly low cd) comes to mind. At least 15 in radiance and both of you are good to go Virtue of Justice would give both of you burn on hit and blind your target (and since VoJ resets on kill) for more room to breath at the start.
Then there are conditions that don’t do damage but still contribute a lot. Thief skills have no cd. Just bring off hand pistol for a blind field or go d/p for a “cheaper” single target blind. Mobs attack slow enough for you to be able to perma blind them.

What really fits a warrior?
Spirit Ranger.

For leveling, another Might/Fury-spamming Axe/Axe|Mace + GS Warrior. That’s probably the highest DPS combo available pre-80, you’ll cut through everything like a hot knife through butter, and have very good travel speed which is also important in leveling.
From what I’ve been reading Spirit rangers are unbalanced OP so I don’t think that would be a good fit. The Necro forums left me with the impression that the juice might not be worth the squeeze. They do look like a pretty cool profession however. I thought a Guardian, with their healing boons etc, might make a good duo for the Warrior. And to clarify we would be PvPing as a duo as well and not just leveling. I’m sorry, I should have phrased my question better. I’ll check out the thief and see if thats a good fit for me. Thanks for your input.

Spirit Ranger is not unbalanced OP it is fine, and even if it was nerfed it would still be the best combo to a Warrior: Almost Perma Protection, Damage Procs.
Summon a frost spirit that has a chance to grant bonus damage to nearby allies.
Summon a stone spirit that gives nearby allies a chance to gain protection.
Summon a spirit that heals allies. Command the spirit to revive and cure conditions on nearby allies.
Lots of Protection, 480 hp/s (More then healing signet.), bonus damage.
They also can body-block the warrior as well.
It brings pretty much everything the warrior lacks to the table.

It’s more of a playstyle thing than anything else. I’d assume you would be talking more about PvP and WvW.
If you want to rush in the middle of a fight and deal massive damage, you best bet is to bring along a guardian for the AoE heals, condition removals and boons. The downside is that the guardian is not very mobile and can’t easily escape a fight when he’s in it.
If you want to assassinate people with massive burst damage, your best bet is to bring along a mesmer or a thief for stealth and added getaway potential. Both make for great roamers, but in a straight up large-scale teamfight, thieves especially typically make for rather squishy targets.
No matter what class you guys pick, though, you can always build around each other. The only thing I’d recommend is to not pick the same class, and perhaps not to pick the Necromancer, simply because he’s a really low-mobility class. Your call though.
IMO I’d say guardian Mesmer or engineer.
Make sure he has longbow as one of his weapons so he can lay down fire fields for you. As a Mesmer you would give him ethereal fields. If you went guardian, you could give retaliation or cleanse conditions. If you went engineer you could do fire, smoke, poison or a few other cfs
Shatter mesmer. Warrior stuns plus mesmer shatter is insane damage. Mesmer can instant rez the war with illusion and portal play him to safety.
I’m in similar situation as OP—was going leveling a mesmer/thief duo, but my son just was enjoying thief and prefers to play warrior. I am thinking guardian would be good support—but I am concerned about mobility. Maybe being a Norn would help (snow leopard escape option). I could go with another class I suppose, but I do like the idea of being support and offering boons and heals (and that attracts me to guardian).
He has chosen to level a Warrior. I prefer to play support classes.
From this alone I’d say Guardian fits your description perfectly… Particularly because you’d both be heavy classes.
That said, any class can do support really, so if Guardian doesn’t fit your bill, take whatever you want really.
Staff/gs guardian, kitten .

Guardian GSword/X, you clump with your 5 skill, he 100b’s and you whirling wrath, EVERYTHING in PvE that isn’t some sort of champ/boss is now dead. Alternate weapon could be staff for aoe auto (good for mowing trash or pulling), swiftness, and empower, hammer will let you cc and provide protection (protection he has no access to personally).
Remember to take enough mobility that you aren’t slowing him down between fights.
All classes support a warrior. But it’s preferred to be a range class because a warrior is a front liner, unless the warrior is a range build, of whom there should be a tanker in front of him; so he can snipe.

Agreed – look at your build and choose another profession’s build that compliment yours. Condition management or healing/buffing helps a lot. A conditionmancer set for crowd control with a zerker war is pretty awesome in pve, though heals are limited. Add a healing build and everything is cake.
Spirit Ranger.
More heals.
Protection
Cures
Damage Procs!
Body Blocks!

Just to clarify I was talking about WvW. A lot of the responses seemed to be focusing on PVE. When I mentioned Norn for mobility, I’m not sure how that could be interpreted as a PVE set up. Can any WvW roamer warriors share there experiences with different set ups?
You want to level up in wvw as duo roaming low lvls?… Good luck sir.
No way. We’re looking to have synergy after leveling up.
Guard. Can keep you buffed with might/protection/stability. Pull ppl together and set you up for HB. give you blocks. Healing.
