I’ve always been curious to get people’s opinions on which race best “suits” a certain class because of the wide variety of responses I usually get for the question. For example, in asking my friends which race best suits a Mesmer, I got these responses:

“Human Female because that was the mascot for Mesmer in GW1.”
“Human male because I had one as my main in the original Guild Wars.”
“Sylvari Female! They’ve got the most elegant and Mesmer-looking cultural armor.”
“Asura because their color on the race select screen is purple.”

So I pose the same question to the Warrior forums!

What race best suits the Warrior to you?

Any and all answers and weird reasoning is welcome

I would say its a toss up between Norn and Charr, because of their size mostly, when I think about a Warrior male or female, I think of this mountain of a person, with a big suit of plate mail, and a giant sword/axe.

But those are just my opinions, because it’s not always the size of the Warrior on the outside, it’s the Fighter within that determines the outcome.

I guess the just seem as if they’d have a strong sense of honor and pride, as well as be strong, agile, and sturdy on the battlefield. I’d say a Charr fits Engineer and Norn fits Guardian more than either fits Warrior. Asura’s also a good Engineer, or even Necromancer.

Ya a Norn or Charr with lightish medium frame (no obese clumsy fatboi) is just bigger, faster, and better than anything else.

Norn and Charrs make great warriors if you are more into sword and sorcery.

You can make them look like battle-worn veterans, covered with scars. Something like brutal mercenaries, who live by adventure and bow to no one. IMHO they even look better when covered into big suits of armor. They REALLY look like juggernauts or warlords.

Charrs might look more like “barbarians”, using bare chested armor, like Pit Fighter set. They also benefit for a wider array of colors for their fur, to make it match with the armor dye.

And let’s remember this: if you think about fantasy and don’t think about sword and sorcery… IMHO you should NOT choose a warrior.

Another reason to choose these two races: their animations are always clear and easy to read.

That means that

A: you have to play better, because the enemy will be able to avoid your attacks.
B: you’ll offer a true fight, without hiding anything. No fancy magic. No fancy acrobatics. Just you, the enemy and your big sword.

For me, the Charr. They have a culture that values strength and discipline highly.

The Norn isn’t a warrior class for me, rather a barbarian/berserker class (which we don’t have in GW2, even though that would be a nice 3rd Heavy Armour class). They don’t cooperate well together and are mostly loners. Even their racial elite shows this: they go into some berserker-kind of rage, taking the form of their spirit animal.

Well, warriors in GW2 can be either soldiers or lone wolves.

When I think of a mercenary I think of a cross between a soldier and a barbarian. A mercenary doesn’t have the discipline and the sense of duty of a soldier, but fight using his experience and some tactics, instead of pure rage.

Given their belief in technology and cold, hard steel rather than religion I’d have to say they’d make good engineers. They rely on machines, have you seen the war tanks in the game? Those are Charr design. Someone’s gotta keep those things up and running.

In the same way I believe Humans have the look and attitude fitting of a Warrior it seems to me Charr would fit Engineer. That’s how I see it anyway, you’re welcome to disagree as I’m sure some people will disagree with others in a thread like this.

U talking about iron legion, but u forgot that charrs has 3 legions

Iron – engineers
Ash – spies
Blood – warriors.

Also even in creation of new toon we dont see a engineer, but a charr with axe/shield

I play my warrior as an Asura because:

They have the best attack animations (imo)
They have the best dodge animations (imo)

And I like to be the one who jumps in quickly, wrecks things, and gets out, while keeping a low profile….like an assassin warrior….evil assassin warrior ;p

Just like I believe Humans would make good Warriors and Asura good Necromancers. The way the race is overall and how they’d likely act, and in the Asura’s case perhaps a case of madness or curiosity. You know, breaking away from the science and applying their intelligence to necromancry, or better yet applying science TO their necromancry.

Also, since when is the creation a guide for what you should make your character? On the last game I played we had one class using the weapons of two different classes but we didn’t see people trying to do the same thing.

Asura- necromancer, elementalist, mesmer
Sylvari – ranger, necromancer, elementalist
Charr – warrior, engineer, thief, elementalist (in this case olny fire magic apply really)
Norn – warrior, guardian, ranger

Humans are way too fragile to become warriors, but thats my personal point of view, and theres no point in this discussion bc its simply down to personal opinion

Human skin looks way too perfect-y to be the one of a warrior. Someone who takes the battle close and personal and takes the fury to his or her teeth and runs around with heavy armor all day. And they look to young to be warriors. I like the idea of a warrior as a veteran who has a lot of experience and seen a lot of battles, and is used to take a brutal beating.

I’m not talking about scars, actually. Even there, human ones are not that impressive.

And my norn doesn’t have a beard, is ugly and has an intimidating face. Not mainstream.XD

And I don’t want to have ANYTHING in common with Trahearne.

I mean… while wieldin a GS I’d remember that piece of weed spouting “this will not end well”, or spouting crap as if he was a big guy and then lay on the ground.

I’d lose 1v1s on purpose.XD

First I had a Charr, but I soon hated her. One because all armor looks terrible on Charr, and two they’re are everywhere. I really don’t play her anymore, just mainly for trolling. XD

So my other warrior is a Sylvari female. You don’t see them too often, and Jennifer Hale is an amazing voice actress.

Norn or char. They’re large, they’re scary and they’re all up in your face about it yelling like a warrior should. I’ve lost a lot of respect for warriors due to how many people are fotm’ing on the class, but I still remember seeing some good norn and char warriors wreck everything.

I’ve seen the countless human males and female warriors and they just don’t cut it. My cat’s sneeze is louder than human battle cries and there is nothing intimidating about how most players dress their human males and females (especially the females).

Sylvari are too scrawny, but I’ve seen some cool looking Sylvari Warriors out there. Probably the only class I’d except that isn’t char or norn.

Some of the reasons why some will say Asura are OP is the reason why I think they will make a horrible warrior. For 1: they talk science when they should be smashing things and yelling about it, 2: They are small so their hidden animations are more befitting of thief/mesmer play, 3: Have you seen them zip zop boop about? I don’t feel warrior at all from these guys.

From a practical standpoint Asura make decent warriors, things like killshot are a lot harder to notice on an Asura than on a Norn or Charr.

For me:
Humans are the non-specialists. They are decent at all they do, but only excel as mesmerizing.
Asurans are the necromancers and engineers.
Sylvari are rangers, elementalists, guardians.
Charr are the engineers and warriors
Norn are rangers, warriors and guardians

And I think if a Charr does pick Elementalist (not talking about a Flame Legion Charr, but rather Ash, Iron or Blood), it’ll pick everything but fire. Which is why my Elementalist Charr (who has a Sorcerous Shaman as father) always picked earth as his element. Hence his second name “Earthshaker”.

Charr are Warriors by birth and culture. Engineering is a byproduct of losses, they had to expand and learn.

Asura are Warriors. Sounds awkward at first, but they use advanced technology for the melee weapons and suits of armor. What they lack in strength they make up for in tech. A human with is finely crafted blade vs Asura with his gravity hammer. you decide.

Humans are the base. They are everything the Gods allow them to be. Clearly, they are Warriors. While I wouldnt pick one in a bar fight over a Charr, he’d still be at the bar.

Sylvari has no culture but all they know is knowledge and warfare. Their purpose is to stop evil, so like Humans they do what needs to be done.

Norn are traveling giant folk. Heavy armor, in reality, wouldnt even suit them. While a norn can be a warrior, he would be more of a mercenary or lone wolf. For the most part their speed and power would favor lighter armors, like Rangers

My main character is a noble Human Warrior blesed by the first God Dwayna. For me , a human fits perfectly as a warrior in service of Divinity’s Reach Crown. Best textured heavy armor + newest dye+perfect fit shows my human as an imposing warrior. Just choose wise armor and weapon skins , colors.

I see all the other classes as warriors , it just depends how you create the character, the name, the personality that you confer further threw skins, etc

Norn for sure but Charr isn’t bad. I just like the big, buff, and manly feel I get with my Norn..especially when using a hammer!
