Q:

As I’ve stated on the topic because I’m stuck deciding which to get for my greatsword wielding warrior for PvE purposes as I am not sure which one yields a better result. Thanks for any suggestions and ideas that you may offer. So is it better to get 100 more power and the trait with 10% more dmg or to get 10% more crit dmg along with heighted senses.

10% more damage should also apply to the crits as well. As the crit damage is based off your normal damage, if the normal damage is increased by 10% then the crits should use this increased value for working out crit damage.

100 more power isn’t anything to write home about on its own, but the GS is excellent at building stacks of might (especially for AoE PvE), so all of it combined adds up to a lot of power. Consider 100 power 3 stacks of might (it’s actually 105 for 3 stacks). Again, as it increases the normal damage of the abilities, it will also increase the crit damage too.

Heighened Senses however allows you to push much closer to the mythical 100% critical hit chance figure (okay, it’s not actually mythical). And when every hit’s a crit, it means you get a stack of might for every target hit.

Doesn’t really answer your question though

Well, being a “greatsword warrior” is a bad idea. Greatsword/dual axes is far more damage than just sitting in greatsword. My dual axes actually put out more damage than my greatsword does, by the greatsword is awesome for building might. In saying that, go crit damage/heightened senses. Between that and 100% fury, you’ll be constantly critting (especially if you grab Furious out of arms) and putting out more damage overall.

I don’t care if dual axes does more dmg than greatsword. Not the reason why I want to use the greatsword as my preferred weapon of choice. And I don’t have 100% fury. Quite far from it. I am not a glass cannon. I just want to balance my offense and defense.

If everything that isn’t a veteran or a champion dies in a single hundred blades, does it actually matter if axe/axe and a GS is technically higher damage?

10% crit damage is not much, even at 100% crit and without any other source of crit damage, it equals to around 6.7% damage increase, since a crit will do 160% instead of 150% damage then -> 160/150 = 1,067

Since you should have:
1. crit damage from other sources
2. less than 100% critchance

the 10% crit damage gets even worse.

The 100 power more will grant you a boost of like 5% already in an average power-based build. (taking 2000 Power as base, 100 more equals 5% more power -> 5% more damage)

So the 100 power + 10% more dmg is better than the crit damage hands down.

Edit: just realized you mentioned the heighted senses aswell. So to tell you which is better there, I’d need to know how much critchance, power and critdmg you got without the last 10 points you want to spend….I doubt that it’ll make the big difference though.

I spent some time trying to decipher what was “heighted senses” (or “heightened senses”).

Well, turns out they were talking about Heightened Focus

Jeez guys…

I got about 40% crit chance and around 2000 power. Crit dmg is 50% or so. And yes I meant heightened focus. Sorry for the mix up!

With these stats, 10% all > 100 power > 10% crit damage.

Heightened senses at max adren would swap the latter 2.

10% is 10% (actually not really, depending on likely ANet calculations, but close enough)
100 power is 100/2000 = 5%
10%cdmg = [(.6 + .4*(2+.1)) – (.6+.4*2)]/(.6+.4*2) = 2.9%
10%cdmg + 9% crit = [2000*(.51+.49*(2+.1))-2000*(.6+.4*(2))] / (second value) = (3078 – 2800) / 2800 = 9.9%

Edit: Should have just gone with decimals on the last formula, but whatever.

Edit2: Oh, so your question is the GS 10% damage AND 100 power — well that wins as you can see above.

Ok. Thank you for the explanation! The difference is minor in my case then. I’ll stick with heightened focus then. I want to bump my crit chance a lil more for more balance.
