So I have always had the urge to fully invest in a warrior, I usually lose the urge with the basis of equivalents to other classes and builds. I’ve had an 80 thief since the 2nd week of release which I have invested a ton into to make a deadly dps build for PvP. I don’t usually enjoy axes or great swords so I tried to duel world swords or sword and shield as a viable option for PvP but I always felt sub par. Any tips? Should I try to fully reinvest my time again to try to become superior in pvp?

with no sarcasm involved, come back to the warrior in a few months if you want to use one for pvp. Supposedly they are getting buffed, because they are lacking. They pack a ton of power, but the power they have are on attacks they dont serve well for pvp/wvw. If you want a new class for pvp, guard and mes will never let you down. Ele is ufn, but it feels kind of OP sometimes. Engineer is solid fun and has a high learning curve. Necro I cant speak on, and Ranger is my personal favorite at the moment. It feels most like the Thief, and isnt overly popular (yet) but more and more strong builds are coming to light and theyre also getting buffed. Mind you, for melee their defensive weapon is a GS and power/cond weapon is sword/dag. has 3 evades in it. Auto attack on sword is awkward but great, and GS is just a beast. I know you said you dont like GS but for Ranger is super fun. Cheers

Well, warrior right now is in a bad place in spvp, and that being said I’d go for it. Warriors can be heaps of fun and when played excellently can excel against the odds. Whenever I see a good warrior I’m highly impressed, because it takes a certain skilled player to make that which is nonviable in competitive pvp right now, viable.

You could try a condition build if you’re going sword. I’m not sure as to how effective it is in the long run but I’ve heard from people it can be really fun with a dual sword warrior.

Rangers are becoming very popular in fact. I see a lot of trap rangers/beastmasters excelling in point holding.

Hi,
here come’s an advice from a competitive player : do not start a warrior , or delete it…
I bought gw2 cuz I thought it was a competitive game and skill based , and I’ve been creating warriors in every mmo i played , but here its just a big disapointment

here’s whats a warrior : OP in PvE , by far the weakest class in PvP , the total opposite of the class I wanted in the begining, I’ve created a warrior and now I’m regreating it

the only viable builds I see so far (when I see a warrior , cuz nowdays good luck finding even one in S/Tpvp) are GS/LB or GS/AxeShield

Let’s hope April’s patch bring a good balance and some love to warriors cuz I don’t feel like playing Mesmer or D/D ele just cuz they are by far the strongest class in SPvP

guys seriously… are you kidding right?
warrior is one of the best class of the game, lets see in other class tread and look at their problems! we haven’t problems, compared to many other classes like guardians and engineers.
Anyway lets explain something:
1)warrior is exellent for pve because it’s very simple to use but it’s also exellent in spvp/wvw but, here, you NEED skill… no excuses… skill!
2)warrior has a ton of builds available, each build for a specific situation is perfect (or very good). do you want some exemples?
-greatsword build with might stack trait → devastating in pve
-greatsword/rifle build with mobility traits → for every situation
-axe/axe build → for pvp reaping (better for wvw, when with food you can spin in the zerg and get full health)
-riffle/bow build → for wvw solo roaming… something of spectacular
(look here for information → http://taugrim.com/2012/12/04/guide-to-guild-wars-2-warrior-run-and-gun-build-for-wvw/ )
-sword/sword – sword/axe → for pvp (in smal scale battles) … only one thing: bleed-is-devstating!
and ofcourse there are more builds with the shield (ex: mace/shield (pve) axe/scield (general purpose) sword/shield (pvp defensive build)
3)if you really learn to play this class you can do everything! do you like to run inside the zerg? you can do it… do you like to shoot from distance? you can do it! do you like to tank? you can do it! pve? pvp? do it! warrior is simply a round class… a very well done “round class”! just specialize in something and play…

so… dont be hesitant with this class… this is the one which you must have in yours 5 slots!

I wouldnt say Mesmer is by far. Ele I agree, but Mesmer no. They are great, and have a lot of viable builds, but theyre on the same ground as Guardians and ive seen many an Engi curbstomp mes and guards lately

Engineers are the new FoTM spvp it appears… Turret Engineers anyway, its normal. Once the changes to Engi are common place and people are used to it, less people will play it.

Everything being said in these forums, they are the only class for me where I have 2 of them. (warriors I mean). Try them out again I’d advise. They have a certain charm to them I can’t seem to let go of despite their shortcomings in some areas.

simplicity at its best. even with its shortcoming, the warrior class is a fun class to play.
no one will argue that you’ve won on a warrior because of your skill rather than your OP class mechanics . anyone beaten by your warrior will respect you.!
soo i think its worth it

You’d be surprised Grounder xD. There’s some nutcase out there that think’s a class is OP for every class. I’ve seen someone say in map chat warrior was OP for spvp 3 days ago

Honestly warrior is one of the sounder choices in the game. Its a well rounded class thats useful in every situation. Extremely easy to level and very profitable PVEwise. Its one class that should be in everyones toolbox.

Warrior is more or less a thief who only knows how to pop stealth and spam Heartseeker. We can nubstomp pretty well (unless they’ve got a bunker Ele/guard then build will win for them) but once you hit higher tiers of play, we just don’t have the evades and invulns of mesmers and thieves, and we sure as hell don’t have the defence of a guardian or Ele, all of which will be taken advantage of until we’re resorting to throwing rocks.

Rule of thumb: Kiting > Melee, Kiting = Ranged, Ranged battles are more orientated towards survivability, of which we have none.

A thief spamming Shortbow evade will whittle you down faster than you can land hits on him…

Point of the story, come back in a few months when we have quality healing, fully functional skills that do what they are meant to do, and an F ability that is balanced with the other professions. That being said the thief one is kind of sad also, but they have so many other strengths to make up for it.

Skye Eterna ~ Mesmer | Arya Slade ~ Charrdian | Kiera Thine ~ Ranger

In the Fall of 2013, Warriors will be FotM. You decide if you want to learn the experience now or later.
