Simple question. You’re holding up this slab of metal to block incoming attacks. It makes sense to me that you’d get a little adrenaline off of it, especially with Cleansing Ire active. So why doesn’t it, and if it did, would it be considered OP?

Interesting idea. Could be useful in giving defensive builds access to more frequent bursts for cleansing ire.

Well the thing with Shield Stance is that unlike our other blocks it is a single function skill. It blocks all attacks over the duration. The other two have a counter if struck by a melee attack. So in order to compensate for not landing the counter, which would grant adrenaline, you get adrenaline via the skill. You can also cancel the block prematurely to gain that adrenaline.

What you’re bringing up with Cleansing Ire though is valid, and should probably be considered. I wouldn’t mind, nor would I see it as OP, to have Cleansing Ire to grant adrenaline on blocked hits. You’re still getting, hit, but it’s bouncing off your shield.

It’s along the same train of though as requiring the Burst to connect to clear conditions. There’s a disconnect between the Burst mechanic and the Cleansing Ire mechanic whereby the only way to get rid of Blind with Cleansing Ire is Combustive Shot.

Yeah I never noticed the lack of gaining adrenaline myself, but it seems like it could go either way. Technically when you block you aren’t getting “hit.” And if taken to the extreme, say a WvW zerg, I can see a 3s block giving you a full set of adrenaline. If that’s OP or not, I can’t say, I run with Furious and my adrenaline is usually full before I can burst again. For full zerkers/glass cannons who have “slow” adrenaline gain I don’t know if it will actually effect them (I don’t see them having cleansing ire or using a shield, plus there’s plenty of other ways to easily get your adrenaline maxed).

Don’t forget Flurry (at least if you’re actually targeting someone with it and not just targeting the ground). I would love it if Cleansing Ire had an additional stipulation of either, spend your adrenaline whenever you burst (hit or miss) or that your adrenaline was spent before the burst skill activates.

If I throw up Shield Stance, and a Thief decides to start poking me with his/her Daggers I’m getting hit just not taking any damage. Anet in all it’s terminological ambiguity tends to equate getting hit with taking damage. I realize there’s a note on the wiki for Cleansing Ire stating that blocking an attack does not count as being hit.

I have the same gripe (and this has been talked to death) with blocked attacks not revealing Thieves.

The whole getting hit equating to taking damage thing (affecting both points I’ve just mentioned) probably stems from Aegis where you have a “magical” block.

As far as being OP goes it probably wouldn’t be. You can only gain so much adrenaline and Shield Stance is on a 30 sec CD the same as Signet of Fury and Healing Surge.
