It has been quite a few months since I’ve bothered with GW2 PvP, only ever logged in for Living World stuff. I’ve used the vanilla GS/Mace then the Berserker version post HoT and it’s always been a setup that was pretty good but never saw widespread use. I looked at Metabattle to see what’s changed since I’ve been away (not much overall), then saw that almost the exact same build I used all the time is now right at the top. The only difference is a few sigil/rune changes and 1 trait. Those differences were generally because I’m a build hipster and often try to find weird little interactions with traits.

Did something major change in the meta to make this build more powerful? Or are players realizing how good the combination of constant light CC with Sigil of Might is? The build was always good against Dragon Hunters, Chronos, and Revs in my experience so I imagine that might have something to do with it.

As far as I know, people just clued into how strong it is. Great blocks, great disabling, great damage, good movement, great sustain, good condi management, stunbreaks, etc.

EU streamers made it popular.

Meta battle isn’t Meta. Most builds are always either non optimal or old. That build has always been good. I think its not on meta battle before becasue of 1st sentence. Thats why you shouldn’t trust meata battle.

Obindo used it (zerker and sig) in worlds qualifiers when gs carrion was relevant, then Drazeh started running it on stream after that and now everyones uses it.

It was actually Drazeh that can take credit for this build, as Denial won one of the finals basically because of it. Basically because no one had seen it before. Can’t remember if that was Pro league or World Champs.

They didn’t even use that build. They used the carrion build. Obindo made the zerker sig build and used it first/introduced it in competetive.

axe vs mace is a damage vs utility trade off. mace has a block & soft cc, whereas the axe has raw damage. both work in wvw.

im running GS/rifle in pvp myself.

Doesn’t have signet of might but obviously I would switch to that if I looked at the match up and saw i needed it. Running signet of might isn’t always viable if your opponents don’t have a lot of blocks. so bow down to your overloard.

Its freaking awesome in WvW. War is my main for wvw and ive been using GS Mace/Shield there for ages. Esp since Sigil of draining was released.

I never really got into MaceBow. I originally played Sword/Torch Mace/Shield condi for a bit but quickly went to GS Axe/Shield. Then after getting a lot of WvW roaming done on GS M/S I started using it in pvp. But I don’t use the build on Metabattle. I use different runes/sigils because I like to experiment.

I have the same weapon set, I have the same traits, I have the same utilities except 1, same heal, same elite. I have 3/4 of the same sigils. Maybe not exactly as he has them but yea. It’s the same build basically. I am using a Mara amulet, isnt that what Obino runs in WvW mara armor. K I made it sorry to say NA>EU all of the way.

Actually back then Obino was still arguing on the forum that Base warrior was superior to berserker. He did this for several months. Obino was still running base war back then and telling us we were noobs for thinking Berserker spec was good.

It wasn’t until around S4-5 that obino finally came to the conclusion that base war wasn’t that great anymore. What else can I say to you that I have one of the oldest accounts on the forum here and Have been active since Launch. I can’t say that for most other people. Also I have an excellent memory.

1. He didn’t run marauder. Also he didn’t do wvw for a long time, he didn’t even use that build in wvw.
2. 1/4 sigils are the same, the rest, utility and trait (the 4/5 utilties) can’t ever be replaced, so with that logic every single build is the same lol.
3. He argued that core evis was better than berserker evis, between HoT release and s2 patch (when it ended I think) – which also speaks for you “excellent memory”. Warrior was complete trash during this time until that patch. What he said was true and I’d love to see a quote of him saying that core is better than zerker POST patch. He said so pre, not post patch and focusing on evis. Quit the fallacious anecdotes, you’re not particularly good at it.

The build is too close? It’s restricted, EVERY build has to use the same traits for example. Everything that isn’t mandatory is different apart from 1 sigil lol. Even if it was identical, it wouldn’t be yours, it would be everyone’s and so nobody’s. Copy pasta from before, since you seem unable to grasp the simple concept or just never read it:

Ye it’s kittened, I answered why it became meta, and how he made, brought it competetive and mate it meta. And this guy can’t seem to deal with it. As I said several time, it isn’t up for debate, never was, I’m trying to get through to his head how it is and he keeps trying to discredit and take some sort of credit that isn’t his, even tho most of it was just as I also said before, resorting to making up fallacious anecdotes to overshadow his shortcomings. Not every warrior build takes the same traits in Berserker, Defense or Discipline Trait line. The trait lines are mandatory but the traits in those lines are certainly not mandatory especially in berserker traitline. We can argue about that all day especially traits like dead or alive that are situational and most the time are useless.

We can also Argue that Pack runes are certainly not Meta in every comp where you get fury from other sources already from a team member when Strength runes become automatically better especially if other team mates are already running pack runes. You can argue about sigils such as AIR when force is obviously better as it buffs every hit instead of 1 every 3 seconds and has been nerfed atleast twice that i know of.

You can’t have it both ways. You cant say somthing naturally becomes meta so no one can take credit for it, but then take credit for it. Then take credit for it. If somthing is meta becasue its the best and most optimal thing to do. Obino didn’t invent the meta, it just is meta. And I ran it before him its a fact. Obino was very very late to jump on the bandwagon its proven.

I never argued that I created the build 1st, I argued that it had already been done which is true. So pls get off your high horse. You can’t discredit me for running somthing before anyone else on this forum or in PVP way before they ever thought of it. What I was doing was way ahead of its time and I have since been running it in PVP and WvW ever sense then.

I don’t normally get involved in these sort of discussions however these type of claims are purely anecdotal and could never be proved due to the nature of the game and our inability to provide factual time and date stamps on who first used the current meta build in competitive.
