Why so few hammer warriors?
In PvE? Because bosses have defiant stacks, otherwise you could run a hammer. But since the CC is wasted on bosses it is a huge turnoff.
Hammer warriors are all over the place in pvp. I like my knock knock warrior, all physical utility skills and I run hammer and mace-shield for max stun and knock-down uptime. Also do extra damage and the CD don’t bother me at all.
Everytime I see a hammer warrior i slouch back and take it easy because I know all I have to do is dodge the most obvious animations ever and then kill them.
Unless its team fights where I have to focus on multiple things
this guy is talking about pve. gs and axe mainhand simply out performs hammer in terms of dps, its as simple as that.
Simply put, Hammer just doesn’t meet damage requirements. It has a lot of CC, but due to bosses Defiant stacks this is worthless. Trash is just that, trash – they die far too easily and quickly for CC to really come into play.

The hammer also has an AoE knockback, and doing that on mobs just makes people angry because it’s likely to spread them out, cause attacks to whiff, and just makes it take longer to kill them.
If your goal is to strip defiant stacks off a boss, then hammer can help with that, although mace/shield or mace/mace might actually work better.
It can work nicely on elite mobs though since they don’t get defiant stacks. You can CC chain them and prevent them from attacking, which is good because they can actually hurt quite a bit sometimes. Once you get into the champ+ stuff though, the magic wears off quickly.
The only thing hammer is really good for in pve is the blast finisher on earthshaker for might. But that’s because it was designed primarily as a pvp weapon, where cc is king.
