I like having high dps. I currently run Guard, Thief, Mesmer and Engi all of which are geared with at least a zerker set. At first I had no interest in running a Warrior but the promise of ‘unbeatable dps’ has put a new shiny finish on the class for me.

My question is, if I finish leveling my warrior and build for DPS is it so good that other classes aren’t worth considering for dungeon runs. I want to avoid shelving my other toons. I’ve run almost every path with GC builds on different toons and up to FotM34 with my GC Guard.

Does the class have a lot of build options and different play styles available? against.

I have a system that I feel comfortable with to compare DPS of different builds and classes. I’m not very familiar with Warrior past lvl 25 though. Can anyone point me to a good DPS build guide?

Input is appreciated,

Blood~

Last I checked, a Greatsword Warrior can put out an unreal amount of damage with Hundred Blades. Exactly how much, I don’t know, but at 60 in AWFUL gear, I’ve put out over 5.400 with crits and “FGJ” sometimes. Which is slightly more than my Flamethrower Engineer puts out at 80 with ’Zerker armor (No ascended items). So I can only imagine what the GS can do at 80 with a pure ’Zerk Exotic set.

I do not want to comment on “Will Warrior ruin my PvE?”, simply because i do not have enpugh experience with other classes.
Anyways here are the two builds regarded as “max damage” builds (trait III is my personal preference in the Adept tier of the Discipline tree, you can also take VI). note: utilities and elite I chose are just meant to be an example of a viable utility/elite slot set-up

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAnZRjkO9uZPKPMxBAzjhCqI1j5crtUByA → here you would swap to GS only for Hundred Blades; any other offhand weapon you prefer is fine though, I for example prefer Longbow, which I only use when I need to stay out of melee range

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARTjkO9uZPKPMxBAzjfAqoLDqYSfYOA → this build is GS focused, but again, choice of off-hand set is up to your personal preference (there isn’t any good trait choice for the Adept tier in strength imo, I’d just go with the +vitality trait)

I prefer the first build over the second, because you are not rooted (Hundred Blades) when using your main damage skill: The axe chain deals incredible amounts of damage while you can move. The advantage is obvious I guess.

Gear-wise you would go with scholar runes and full zerker. But i guess you have enough experience to set your gear, sigils and consumables up on your own.
Hope this helps, greetings

Warrior does higher burst damage, but Guardian has around the same Sustained Damage. (DPS.) A guardian also has more mobility to his burst, so in some cases can out DPS a warrior.

There are 2 DPS builds commonly being used: the 30/0/0/10/30 and the 30/25/0/0/15 (see above links). As for weapons, AM/AX, AM/GS, GS only are good choices. Some weapon combos work better with one build than the other. I personally find AM/Ax to feel a little less mobile than I’d like, and find the GS only to be too dependent on landing your rooted 100B attack. You can build to suit your personal preferences.

I am also going through a similar exercise with my DPS Dungeon Thief, Guardian, and Warrior. They all play and feel differently, but for me the Warrior brings a level of single target and multiple target DPS, with mobility and sustainability (with the new changes to Healing Signet) that I don’t have with either my Thief (who has better single target DPS and mobility, but less multiple target DPS and sustainability) or my Guardian (who has slightly better sustainability, but less DPS and mobility).

It’s definitely worth leveling one up to see for yourself.

Your forgetting the guardian also has team support as well.

Thanks much guys. I tested out the two builds and got some interesting results. Axe/Mace supplemented with 100b gave me the highest numbers out of anything I’ve tested but Thief Backstab/Heartseeker was very close. I was able to closely match a lot of other thief and engineer dps to GSword Warrior numbers. Guard was about 12% lower than GSword warrior akittens best. I was honestly expecting to see GSword a lot higher but I’m happy that I can match it with other classes. Axe/Mace 100b on the other hand was quite impressive. About 13% above GSword alone. This was calculated assuming all abilities are able to be used on cooldown. Again, not saying my system is completely accurate but I feel its doing a decent enough job in comparing dps output.

Axe/Mace with the right build/traits is ~5% better than any GS build (yes, this is taking runes, sigils, self might stacks etc. into account) in terms of potential DPS. It also has better burst if you shrink the burst window to < 2 seconds with Eviscerate. GS has better mobility, and in the right circumstances a useful free evade, but 100b roots you.

That’s a huge problem. It’s a problem because being rooted means that if for whatever reason you need to move or dodge during it you lose the most potent section of the abilities damage and lose it for at minimum another 6 seconds. Highly mobile encounters this can also mean that you’ve moved to an edge where you’re safe form an AOE circle and the boss edges out of 100b distance and again the damage is lost.

Yes, 100b can reach 40k (especially in QP). That number feels great when you see it. However, Axe is more reliable and slightly better DPS at the same time. Unless you really need the charge, there just isn’t any reason to use greatsword as it stands (Axe/Sword will give you a block to replace the evade).

Planning a much larger post to go over the different build options, but thanks to where the traits are located, axe will win out whether you use 30/30/0/10/0 or 30/0//0/10/30.
