Crackshot Rifle: 20% CD and piercing shots
Merciless Hammer: 20% CD and extra damage vs disabled
Forceful Greatsword: 20% CD and gain might on a crit
Sundering Mace: 20% CD and extra damage vs weakened
Shield Master: 20% CD and +toughness when using shield
Inspiring Banners: 20% CD and large AOE
Quick Breathing: 20% CD and warhorn converts conditions

Burning Arrows: Extra damage versus burning foes
Strong Bowstrings: Increase range from 900 to 1200

You get the idea. We’ve been down this road before. Why does longbow still require a trait just to have the same range as a baseline rifle?

Base range should be moved up to 1200. The Burning Arrows should also reduce CD by 20%. Stronger bowstrings should be replaced or removed.

Thoughts?

Only thing I wish for longbow to do when you’re trait for* burning arrows* is that the auto attack for longbow now does burning condition.

For the Strong Bowstrings trait I think it should just be hotfix into the Longbow weapon instead of it being a trait because it is an wasteful trait that should be reworked or replaced with something valuable.

Anet’s reasoning here is obvious:

Rifle is single-target.

Longbow is AoE.

I’d really like to see all the non-AoE attacks on the Longbow having 1200 range.

I can do thirty Five-Dolyak Arm Curls.

Do you even lift, bro?

On the topic, does anyone know what “30% increased velocity” on the Longbow is supposed to mean from the patch notes?

You mean to say, arrows fly 30% faster than they did before.

Velocity is a directional speed over time.

Stuff goes here.

yeah, longbows not having the 20% reduced CD like every other weapon is why they are COMPLETELY useless in sPvP atm.

For you saying long bow is completely useless in Spvp means you never ran with a condition spec before or not experience with it. Longbow is decent in Spvp and the aoe damage is great if used upon group of enemies which you encounter a lot in Spvp. In 1 vs 1 fights it is not that great depending on your opponent a.k.a skilled players.

However it would be cool if the weapon did had a reduce 20% skill trait like the others, but remember sword and axe doesn’t have that skill trait as well.

Simple answer. It does better AoE damage out-put on a node or PvE in general.

On a single target, Rifle is kinda better but AoE meta is too good right now. Of course you’re supposed to force fights in points and you’re not supposed to overextend.

Since people are negative about nerfs, how about we buff to balance then?

But in addition to the 1200 range, Stronger Bowstrings does the following

  • Fan of Flames becomes a small projectile finisher (x3)
  • Smoldering Arrow becomes a large projectile finisher and deals double damage

The trait is not as bland as you think it is.

You just have to spec into it which is a waste of space because you have other useful traits better than those two like Leg specialist and increase damage with each boons that are up unless the warrior is shout spec.

Maybe they could at least have the Strong Bowstrings trait at least give 20% cooldown reduction to the longbow. That would at least make the longbow builds worth taking, if still not ideal.

Or maybe make longbows fire faster or maybe have a chance to apply a condition (e.g. burning) on hit. Rangers would appreciate a better longbow as well since many rely on those.

I love my ranger longbow just the way it is now that the projectiles move faster and people don’t ‘dodge’ them simply by moving around naturally as they would anyways in combat.

Is the fast projectile speed enough? That’s good to hear. I haven’t played mine in a while because I was struggling to get decent DPS with my bows.

The projectile speed makes a significant difference. You’ll still miss fairly often, but you hit alot more than you used to now.

Indeed. I’ve been running a power/vit/tough trolls ungent s/x+longbow build (or gs/longbow when I’m feeling trollish) and even though you still get a fair share of stupid obscured off of random pebbles in the dirt….150 feet underground and out of sight…. the projectile speed increase combined with the 25% speed increase signet helps significantly in dropping HP at a fairly steady rate in-between spike waves (QZ or pet swap tackle + mini QZ)

You saying longbow can be used decently in spvp means you dont spvp all that much, do you?

just a few days ago my team and i did a free tourney for fun and on forest we ran into a longbow condition specced warrior. basically with our necro support and guardian bunker the bleeds from the warrior were completely inconsequential and when hed drop the aoe field on us we’d ignore it and keep fighting, seeing as how the ticks of flame damage werent making all that much of a difference. especially since they have a burst ele with them also putting the same dot on us, which only stacks in duration and not ticks.

sure join a random 8v8 pug match and drop some aoe from a distance into the always present zerg and you might get a decent amount of damage off, but in an organized tourney team it is literally useless.

if you still say otherwise post a vid proving it, otherwise im sticking to what ive seen and experienced.

Well there you go for proving my point that Long Bow is decent in Spvp because I did not mention anything about Tpvp. However for organize teams I doubt it would be useful in Tpvp because of professions like yours either you live through the ticks or not. Your profession will always have their conditions removed by the guardians.

This why this weapon should be reworked so it can become more efficient in tourneys as well.

1. Longbow builds faster adrenaline.
2. Longbow has AoE.
3. Longbow has a Combo Field.
4. Longbow looks, imo, better except for The Hunter and Predator.

If you’re not built for damage, definitely go Longbow.

that means absolutely nothing, there is almost no point in playing spvp if you dont at least do free tourneys. so i stand by the fact that longbow is horrible atm.

I find that the longbow in conjunction with sword/sword (and gearing for condition damage) makes for a brutally powerful condition damage build. I think this game is built upon the idea of switching weapons frequently instead of sticking with one weapon an entire fight (greatsword is one of the few exceptions), and the fact that longbow is a support weapon should key into the factor that it’s not meant to deal massive damage (even though it does in conjunction with the adrenaline burst + #3 AoE Blast Finisher). A ranged blind, immobilize, and extremely viable AoE is what makes this weapon the perfect addition to a warrior who thinks he has it all with just one weapon set. Used your cooldowns up in longbow? Cool! Switch back to your other weapon and keep waylaying your way through the crowd. : )

I kinda like the Longbow in WvW, where you can use the AoEs to hit people on walls and stuff. If you had tried to shoot them with the Rifle, you would’ve gotten “Obstructed”.
