So I’ve recently made a Warrior. She’s at level 75 and all her gear is ready to go. I spend most of my time in WvW where I enjoy doing a plethora of different activities, primarily roaming. I’m new to Warrior and still uncertain of what’s good and what’s bad, etc. I put together a build that I thought would be good for damage as well as survival but didn’t focus too heavily on either so as not to wind up making a confused build that can’t survive and can’t damage. It has lots of toughness, good ferocity, good healing power, lots of power, good precision, everything is in a pretty good balance but I’d like to hear from other, more experienced Warriors about how this build looks and how it might function.

P.s. I know I have 2 sigils of bloodlust but it’s just a habit of mine when using stacking sigils. I like to have them in both weapon sets so I don’t have to remind myself to switch weapons before getting a kill to get a stack.

There are a lot of things about your build that make it inferior to the meta.

No Cleansing Ire. You have very weak condi removal (SiO only??).

Two shouts, yet nothing you get from them but adrenaline.

Spiked Armor is very lackluster, GS/Axe functions way better with Defy Pain so you can keep up the pressure.

All traits you have chosen in Discipline are mediocre.

So are Traveler runes (on a warrior). Warrior’s Sprint is an excellent trait, you can get more from your runes.

And yes, double bloodlust sigil is poor, just get used to switching. You get 5 stacks for a kill, which should get you up fast enough.

I only state my opinion unless stated otherwise.

I’d get some -condi duration. Hoelbrak runes, Dogged March, and food should give you near-immunity to movement-impairing conditions, which is important since you’re a melee warrior.

Also, you need stability. Scrap the shouts and grab Balanced Stance or Dolyak Signet. For the other utilities, Berserker’s Stance and Endure Pain are good choices. Maybe Bull’s Charge so you can land some hits of Hundred Blades, but it’s kinda bugged/unreliable atm. You could use it for kiting though.

I have a question regarding the meta builds. Main build has 4 in Arms, so already higher crit chance and uses Heightened Focus at Grandmaster in Discipline. The other build called “Most Offensive Variant” has lower crit chance especially for burst skills (no Critical Burst) but uses Burst Mastery at Grandmaster tier. Does that make sense?

The combo Shield Bash into Eviscerate brings most enemies below 50%, so with Burst Mastery you can just follow that combo with Arcing Slice, especially since Arcing Slice’s damage does not benefit from higher adrenaline levels.

Burst mastery is really good trait with GS/Axe+sh combo. Though, its not for comboing Arcing Slice after Eviscrate though.

Burst mastery helps you get back to level 3 adrenaline after your Eviscrate (hit or not) so you can do it again. Shield bash itself doesn’t quarantee the eviscrate and definetly won’t quarantee Evis and Arcing slice combo.

Most players when they see axe+shield try to watch for Shield bash and for Eviscrate to dodge them. And even if you land shield bash they will surely use stunbreak so they can dodge the evis. If they don’t have stunbreak or are too slow to dodge the evis they will dodge after the evis to lower the damage output afterwards so they can heal. And thats why it would be rather hard to land Arcing Slice after evis.

Arcing Slice is a good burst skill, but I wouldn’t use it on that build outside from some glutch situations where the enemy is really low and you could pressure it to downed with AS and some other hits.

Thanks for your answer Paavotar. I’ve used the combo in some situations and found it nice, but obviously I didn’t have good opponents then cause what you say makes definitely sense.

Hambow is stronger for roaming.

Depends on the situation. If there is multiple melee targets hambow will beat GS/Axe-sh hands down. Mostly because hambow can dish out such strong stationary AoE pressure.

But if you encounter kiting roamer, for example a mesmer you will have harder time than GS/Axe-sh.

In WvW roaming I would see GS/Axe-sh better as it gives you more mobility. HamBow works wonders in sPvP because you are mostly forced to fight inside small circles. In WvW there ain’t that many situations when you actually have to stay inside a small circle (tower cap rings and some camp rings perhaps). But on most roaming situations most builds will not have that much hard time to bail out of hambows pressure if they so decide. Does hambow win if the enemy bails out? In a sense of fighting yes, but in every other way it’s a stalemate.

In the end, it’s presonal preference what you like most and get the best result with. I prefer GS/Hammer when I roam as I feel like I accomplish most with that build and have played it most.

I would go as far as to say the hambow user will die more often then the gsaxe user when they face off in 1v1. The gs user can disengage at will, baiting ou cooldowns and mistakes from the hambow. And as long as you stay outside of the longbow field, hambows damage is weak, whereas axe maintains extreme sustained DPS.

I only state my opinion unless stated otherwise.

You serious lol? Hambow isn’t a strong roaming build. It lacks disengage and mobility and most builds will kite circles around you. Namely Mesmers in general, LB Rangers, S/D Thieves, S/D or S/F Eles, Condi or Celestial Engis and even other Warrior builds.

It doesn’t beat 90%+ of meta roaming builds. It’ll probably lose to Celestial D/D and Medi guards as well. Not to mention you can’t disengage reliably from zergs, 3v1s and take objectives as fast or chase people.

It won’t beat GS/Axe in a 1v1 either. GS just kites too much and axe just has better damage overall. Not to mention Hammer and Longbow are that difficult to dodge either.

Hambow in WvW would only be decent in small group roaming and the casual zerg play. Hambow has alot of AoE, a fire field, 2 blast finishers, that’s pretty much it. Even then, a GS/Axe player bursting down targets in small groups could arguably be even more valuable than what the Hambow brings.
