Time To Leave [GTFO] – a WvW Guild
Piken Square server
Hey hey, just wondering what weapons for taking a pure DPS role in a group people recommend for Warrior? My friend argues two axes, whilst I like the idea of two swords. We both agree on a rifle as our secondary set. The thing is, neither of us actually play Warrior. But I’m interested to know what others think.
Thoughts?
I don’t use axe much, but objectively I’d say axe/axe for a pure DPS role over sword/sword. However, pure melee DPS is missing the point in wuvwuv and you won’t get the opportunity for it against other players very much.
Sword is more about bleeds and some mobility, but practically everyone runs with some way to strip conditions out of sheer necessity in wuvwuv. Axe seems like it does better direct damage, has a ranged cripple on a shorter cooldown, and Fury. Although personally I go sword/shield so I’d be tempted to go axe/shield if I went with an axe. Either way, offhand sword’s abilities don’t seem so great for wuvwuv. Then again I do really like Flurry’s immobilize, but I hear Eviscerate can do some quick, crazy damage and it leaps you to the target. Mainhand sword’s Savage Leap is also really nice.
Trust me, I wish it was different myself. I don’t like how the weapon sets pretty much get pigeonholed like that, but there’s nothing saying you can’t run sword/sword. Just go in with the right expectations and learn to adjust so you’re not so disappointed.
Also, keep in mind that Warriors can use a variety of weapons for a reason. You might find it’s better and more fun to carry multiple sets and swap out your equipment out of battle if you expect to go into different situations.
I play a pure rifle warrior, so rifle is my main WvW weapon. I use Greatsword as a secondary weapon for the 3 and 5 skills with Discipline → mobile strikes and Strength → restorative strength, so I have great escapability overall.
Getting 18k-19k crits is awesome, but I understand not everyone like to play a pure ranged warrior.
Hammer & Mace/Shield (+ Warhorn for extra swiftness when I’m running supplies or speeding up dolyaks ‘n’ kitten (so for non-fights))
Combine that with a very tanky build (I myself run the tank-build with healing shouts and runes of the soldier) and you will survive pretty much anything whilst CCing the living kitten out of your enemies. And as every PvP (and WvW is still pvp) player knows: CC is everything, especially if you have about 7 seconds stunlock for a single target, including 2 seconds of aoe stun (hammer burst ability).
obviously you won’t be chunking out the amount of damage of a glass-cannon, but you wont die, and can still take pretty much any class in a 1v1. I have won up to a 1v6 playing this build and weapon-choice (however that was against some very bad players). realistic win & survive chance with mediocre-good opponents:
number of opponents —- winnable —- survivable
1 —- yes —- yes
2 —- yes —- yes
3 —- yes —- yes
4 —- meh —- yes
5 —- no —- yes
6 —- no —- yes
…
15 —- no —- meh
16 —- no —- no
this may not be accurate for you, as it still depends somewhat on gear, playstyle and skill. I’d say I’m a reasonably skilled player, but I aint anywhere near as good as some other people I know. My strong points are tactics, knowledge of when to strike and when to get mykitten out of there, and teamwork.
(You will NEED to work in a team for this build to really kick in! You can tank the damage, protect, buff and heal your allies (also remove their conditions) whilst at the same time ccing your enemies.)
In short: its kittening awesome!
