I’ve tried both builds. I like both builds. I’m torn. Let’s play a game!

I am currently using the Greatsword/Rifle “glass cannon” DPS build.

Build:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74143-in-depth-gs-warrior-pve-dps-theorycrafting-w-build-included/

However previously I have used the “Yojack” build

Build:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Yojack-s-Min-Max-home-of-the-Yojack-Build-2012-for-GW2

Both have very high crit which I love. GS build has more burst while Yojack has more condition damage and mobility. Yojack doesn’t have the raw dps output but is much more mobile and survivable than the “glass cannon”. Yojack has more group utility while GS is more pure dps focused. I have used full rare knights gear on both.

All things being equal gear-wise (as in optimal settings in each), which would you use and why?

Please do not post other builds, pretend these are the only two left on the planet.

Now….. GO!

We talken sPvP? WvW? Dungeons?

sPvP the GS build takes a dump all over any rifle build lol.

WvW Rifle builds will do better since they don’t have to get in the fray.

Dungeons: I don’t care about dungeons so I won’t comment.

Overall? GS build is just better.

I’m using Yojack’s build now. Actually I found the most attractive part of this build is its flexibility. You can simply change some major traits to meet difference situation or play style. I didn’t play sPvP, but I use this build in solo, DE, WvW and Dungeons.

Most time i’m carrying sword/axe/warhorn in my backpack for my offhand. Using sword can easily stack 20+ bleeding and on enemy when i was alone. Axe can provide a good AOE to face crowd during the DE. Warhorn is mainly for dungeons and WvW imo. When you are not using Warhorn just change IX to VIII in tactics.

Also I’m considering to collect a set of Zerk gear, change some major traits and use axe for main hand, then this build can also be a direct damage based build.

Sword + warhorn / Rifle isn’t really viable in sPvP. Warhorn is useful for mobility but spvp maps are relatively small. Shield is always a better offhand in sPvP. This build only gives you bleed damage, which makes it easy to cleanse, and has very little aoe as well (all the good condition damage builds either stack multiple types of condition damage, stack it quickly, or do aoe condition damage, or some combination of this)

Condition damage build in general for a warrior is a gimmick because of this; it can win some 1on1 fights, but is completely useless beyond that since the AoE is really low, can’t stack bleeds fast outside of sword adren skill, and you can only get either burning (have to use a bow = bad), or confusion (ok, but not great)

Call me when this game gets fixed…. if it ever does….

Sorry I should’ve specified, I plan on using my warrior for PvE. My hesitation with the Yojack build is that I want to level a guardian for WvWvWvWvWvEverything and think those two playstyles are too similar.

Couldn’t agree more. Yojacks build expects you to have rampagers for sword, or berserkers gear for axe with 6 x runes of soldier to make shouts cleanse. I will have to say the warhorn is awesome with the conversion trait in all settings (especially for poison to regen). I started with his rampager build, but have recently switched to the berserker/axe combo as it is more versatile overall (imo).

Cheers!

I enjoyed the Yojack build (a friend uses the axe variant) but I just felt it lacked the raw power that the GS allows. How does the Zerker combo fare in comparison? The GS “cookie cutter” build is less survivable but I feel that could possibly be countered with the Omnomberry Pie with a 66% chance to heal on crit.

its a tossup, i keep three sets of gear, zerker, knights, and rampager to cycle between glass, pseudo glass, and yojak.

generally pseudo glass for pve, yojak for pvp, and pure dps for when im in that mood.

Yojack based zerker combo works well in PvE/WvW. The bonus is that you can use Hammer, GS, Axe, Rifle or Longbow effectively. Also shield or horn offhand

Zerker armor with soldier runes, knight jewelry with ruby insets, and choice of weapons and food to tune your stats more. I prefer zerk weapons and lifesteal food too

Like I said, this is just for PvE. I’m gonna use my Guardian for PvP.

I’m leaning more towards the GS as of right now (invested in a Mystic Claymore – my first Exotic – yay). Knight’s gear seems to give me enough toughness in my daily grind of clearing the world to 100%. Taking on Orr will be the gut check. I’m going with Zerker weapons/trinkets and will be sure to have my OPs with me. I haven’t had time to try this in a dungeon yet since the last time I was disconnected in FotM…

What do you mean by “pseudo glass”, azmodeus?

glass cannon with some toughness, theres a few builds that near max dps, but have alot more utility/survivablity thatn a pure signet glass. if your interested i can pm some to you later, or post them here. (no time now)

I have been struggling to find something like you described. Could you share or PM examples or links to these builds?

Although I actually don’t have a signet build. I use the vulnerability on crit chance trait. My utilities are that healing thing that gets better with higher adrenaline, FGJ, shake it off, and bull rush with SOR
