Guild Wars 2

I am a warrior and I really like these three weapon combos:

-Axe and Axe
-Greatsword
-Hammer
-Longbow

I always want to keep the longbow as my secondary but I was wondering what each weapon is used for and what situations they are good for such as PvP and PvE. I also want to know your opinion on the “best” weapon and your favorite.

Axe/Axe doesn’t really have a good place in any setup right now, but Axe/Shield does pretty well in PvP and WvW situations. Axe/Mace is the highest sustained DPS weapon set available if I remember correctly. And it’s also pretty good for PvP and WvW.

Greatsword is a Warrior staple that has a place in every game type.

Hammer is best used for PvP and WvW situations.

Longbow fills a very unique role in each game type. Condi Longbow has been creeping into the Warrior meta for PvP. I personally swear by Berserker Longbow for PvE and WvW right now.

You will need to figure out your own playstyle. That being said, Greatsword isn’t a good weapon choice without Forceful Greatsword. Hammer isn’t a good weapon choice without a high adrenaline creation (and traits) build.

Axe/Axe is more general if none of those traits can make it into your build and Axe offhand just isn’t what it used to be before the on-crit weapon proc changes. Axe mainhand is very solid if you pick a weapon set that adds more (shield, warhorn (much better with trait), mace, sword all have their place).

spvp or wvw? Two distinctly different areas. In wvw don’t use GS or axe axe. Both choices are bad and you should migrate away from those 2 weapon choices. Longbow is a creative way to switch it up and do some condition damage. It’s alright for hard burst but your 3 is your main skill for that. Hammer is the best solo roam tool in the world. Axe, shield is a good combo in wvw solo as well, but it doesn’t have much control just a lot of sustain dps.

PVE GS, AXE AXE, bow are great. Do some build research and you’ll find some easy pz pve builds with those weapons.

Rifle
Never played much using Rifle but now I run with is all time. Volley is like 100b from distant and its harder to dodge, its also follow theif when he go stealth (Kill shot do the same) Plus you not gona be kited, now you can kite others.

Hammer
For me must have. I feel uncomftable when I cant drop Eartshaker.
Greatsword
Pve weapon.

Longbow
Great at tower defence. Great in pve to stack might with hammer+banner. Arcing arrow can crit hard.

Speaking in terms of tPvP (based on my experiences playing these setups):

A/A: Not in a great place right now. Axe main (running zerker) is great for evisc but thats about it imo. Off hand axe’s whirlwind isnt super great damage wise, but it makes gaining adrenaline easy.

GS: One of the more common weapons run in PvP. Only problem I see is that most Warriors running GS are using the generic HB setup. Mix and match and feel what is right for you imo, the GS is still a capable weapon away from Frenzy.

Hammer: A lot more common now. Great CC’s on the opponent and the damage is likable.

Longbow: My personal favorite. Great AOE and single target damage. Skills are often dodged or miss often however, so it’s not just some ranged button masher.
