Is the greatsword the best weapon for “tagging” mobs in Dynamic Events? Or have I overlooked another weapon with bigger AoE attacks on a shorter cooldown that the GS?

GS has a cleave effect, but it’s a maximum of 3 targets at once while OH axe is a 360 degree aoe with no target cap

5 target cap for whirling axe, meaning it cant hit more than 5 targets simultaneously, but it can end up hitting more than 5 people if they move out of range/die

Longbow. burst skill AoE is huge 3 is pretty big and 2 will go through multiple enemies. and the most important reason for this being the best tagging weapon is because its RANGED.

1) Use longbow full adren Combustive Shot on the horde of enemies.
2) Move into the fire field
3) Swich to dual axe
4) Whirling axe -> Burning Bolts combo
5) ?
6) Profit!

The longbow’s 3 has the same CD timer as the greatsword’s and they are both limited to hitting 5 enemies. But the LB’s 3 fires a slower moving projectile while the GS’s fires off very quickly. If you’re correct and LB’s 2 does indeed pierce, then perhaps I should give it another try.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

agreeing with longbow, burst is radius is huge, and 2 does penetrate if i remember correctly. 3 is kinda meh in my opinion however. i run a condition build and my burn does 500+ damage a tick so the burst is usually enough for me. after using burst make sure you switch up to x/axe for burning bolts

Longbow has 3 attacks that are useful in an AE tagging situation: Burst, #2 and #3. You need to run the appropriate adrenaline skills to be able to use burst as often as possible. Extra range trait preferred.

For a swap weapon, you can pick between several:

MH Sword – mobility
MH Axe for sustained 3-target damage and 5-target vuln
OH Axe for Whirling axe
OH Horn – mobility
GS – Bladetrail, Whirling blade, 100b and Rush for mobility

hammer shock and earth shaker are more reliable than other weapon skills(and far quicker than longbow).
