Is it me or does wearing heavy armor make almost no difference. i do not understand how armor works in this game (i know there is an equation like armor + toughness)
but i realy do not notice a difference in the dmg im taking even when i switch to medium and light armor classes. i know you cant come looking at this realistically because its a video game but how is someone using little daggers gona make me bleed to death in heavy armor.

im sure this has been posted before but anyone know if they are working on this or going to change anything about this.

am i the only one on this?

Its just the type of armor, i dont think it effects the amount of dmg you take.

Stack more toughness

Don’t call anyone out on their BS, that’s an infraction and a deleted post. —Anet.

Defense = Toughness + Armor. All characters have the same base Toughness at level 80. HP is also an important factor: Warriors have the highest base HP in the game, tied with Necromancers. On the flip side, Guardians actually have the lowest HP, tied with Elementalists and Thieves (I believe), but with their heavy armor and Aegis/Protection buffs, they’re pretty durable.

Play to your strengths as a warrior. I go Power/Toughness/Vitality on my gear, and Defense/Tactics trait lines, and healing shouts. I have 28k~ hp and am seriously hard to put down. Others go for Power/Precision/Condition damage to crit and bleed, but then they’re glass cannons.

Pretty much, you can’t be a tank without investing in it. I do wish there was a bigger difference between heavy armor and light armor, though, it just doesn’t seem worth it.

they should change the tooltip, “armor that looks heavy”.

Actually, heavy armor has more base defense than medium and light armor.

Go to the mists and practice on the different targets. Heavy armor takes about half the damage light armor does.

I think if heavy armor had more of an impact then they’d have to lower heavy armored classes dps to compensate, this would also result in people relying on the holy trinity, which anet is deeply against…

Well currently thieves seem to be more reliable in melee combat…than warriors due to high dps and survivability (from avoidance apparently). The same can be said for guardian’s survivability…not sure how their dps ranks. Both of these professions are getting a pass on the constant death’s that any dps traited warrior is currently experiencing. I can deal with not having heavy armor actually be heavy armor for us, but I think warriors do need some survival love without making us go kitten dps mode.

I’m not traiting glass cannon on purpose….I’ve gone 15 points into defense. It would be nice if we could get that survival from reliable slot skills and early traits…especially since it seems to be the general consensus that our armor type should not provide extra survivability.

I’m looking at traits like last stand, that lets all of those negative effects actually happen and only activates after the negative thing has already occurred. Thick skin, that only provides any benefit when we don’t really need it…when health is above 90%. Adrenal health is decent, but it sure could stand to be more effective…either increase the regeneration or add in some periodic condition removal/immunity.

Slot skills like endure pain that only block physical damage and not condition damage…which is our main concern as a dps spec.

It would be really nice to just have shouts heal by default instead of having to go all the way in on tactics to get that.

Yeah, the whole ‘heavy’ armour bit is a bit of a joke.

You can’t go high defence, high hps and expect to kill anything at all though. It’s either high tough + power or high hps and power.

So I’ve found running high hps (27k) seems to afford me better protection. I found high toughness made very little difference to my survivability.

Guardians are just so much tougher, and yet output so much damage….
