making Banners like Engi Kits-
Most people think of banners more like turrets…
…but having a banner that worked like a kit would be pretty awesome, and could offer some much needed utility to a class that feels rather one dimensional (warriors)
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Your damage would need to be reduced by 30% to compensate… Be careful what you wish for XD
I think the banners are a bit more akin to engineer turrets at the moment, in which case the banners are much more generous in allowing you to pick them up and move them. At any rate, that’s one of the tradeoffs of using banners… you get a nice passive buff, but you have to stay localized. If they were to be used in such a mobile fashion, they’d need a different tradeoff.
If it’s WvW you’re concerned about, I’ve found there’s no shortage of people willing to pick up your banners and run around with them (or sometimes off a cliff with them).

I dont see why damage would need to be nerfed 30%.
the banners arent like turrets. Turrets have combat roles. Banners provide no passive combat role. only actives. and most of the key differences come from boons. 2 of the 5 banners have an attack for number 2 that set them apart.
The point of banners is originally to be a fusion between el conjurations and engi turrets. What people need to remember is that the banner can be used by anyone, that’s the whole idea behind them. The warrior place it and them it’s up to everyone in the team to make a good use of it, not juste the warrior, whose job is to hack things, not to agitate some flag >.>.

So, useless banner is good because someone else can pick it up and do nothing with it???
someone suggested that banners work as they do but be wielded in the offhand
(giving you the 2 actual banner skills and removing the trashy attacks and drop)
i think that’d be fantastic using a sword and banner, both for not having useless “smack” attacks, and also from looking like a total kitten!

It’s an inside joke among the engineer forums stemming from a patch that allows sigils to work with kits, but nerfing the damage of grenade kit to compensate.
Concerning the OP. I like the idea. I feel I could work with this since I switch playstyles between engi and warrior. In-game, instead of playing the long summoning animation, let it just appear semi-instantly in your hands.
To tweak it a bit and give another similar suggestion, there are some real life cultures that lets a banner be mounted on the back of a soldier so that he can still fight with both hands. Why not have it work the same? Instead of having it pinned on one spot, it would actually be mobile.
