need help vs thieves, mesmers and eles
With eles its always about countering them. You anticipate getting CCd, pop up stability, if ele is on fire pop up zerkers stance. If you have a bow burning hurts them a LOT and try to keep some distance as they are full melee. If you run a condi/hybrid build spike them when they leave water. You may still not kill the ele if you outplay them as they have a ridiculous amount of vigor heals and gap openers.
Thieves. Well it depends on what build you run in wvw. If you like to roam with hammer/gs then a thief will easiliy counter you. Its just the way it is. Axe shield or a condi build has more chance. You want to bait them to open on you and securely land evis. Pretty hard to land unless you have leg specialist trait. Whirlwind also does a chunk of damage. If they use their stolen ability you can pop up endure pain and counter attack with axe autoattack but it wont work against decent thieves.
Against mesmers you wont stand much chance. I dont play mesmer so i dont know how to counter them. However i run mobile strikes trait which gives me 4 escapes from their sword lockdown. Still ill lose to a mesmer with skill equal to mine so perhaps someone else can help you there
you probably have better chance against them on your guardian.
Please post your build Ragnarox.
Having berserker stance and endure pain against a d/p thief can be extremely helpful. GS/axe shield is nice for this match up because you have a block, evade and hard hitting attacks. With GS/Hammer its harder to win. Good thieves will blind you frequently while you are wielding the hammer, this is when you should pop the zerker stance to smack them.
As far as condi shatter mesmer is concerned, it’s important to not get hit by the scepter #2. You can use GS#3 here to whirlwind through, trigger the block and evade the torment application. Avoid chaos storm, dont hit the mesmer when chaos armor is up and save dodges for the shatters. Signet of stamina and zerker stance are very helpful here. Be aware that good mesmers will kill you, no matter if condition or power. The profession itself counters warriors quite hard.
Cele eles… akaCryptic explained it quite well. Offensive rotation of d/d is usually fire>earth>water>…

well this is my build
I ended up swapping my hammer to rifle sometimes because I can kill ele with it easily.
but thieves and mesmers, oh such a pain :S
Ok, here my 2 coppers:
- Ditch the rune of speed. You are already using warrior’s sprint and movement speeds do not stack. Get melandru or hoelbrak runes. I prefer the latter, because of the extra damage and -condi duration. Both are excellent runes for the warrior, they synergize with dogged march + condition food and thus worth the money.
- Don’t use bull’s charge. Bulls charge in its current state is still buggy and can completely miss targets. I know it sounds funny but throw bola is a better option at the moment. GS/Hammer works also well with 3 stances.
- Sigils: Intelligence sigil on the hammer is a must have. You have a lot of hard hitting single hit abilities on this weapon, #2 #3 #4 #5 and the hammerstun. Having guaranteed crits on a backbreaker is crucial and can hit up to 5k damage. The second sigil I’d use is doom, energy or battle. The latter has been nerfed. That is up to you.
There are a couple more things which I’d change but I don’t want to destroy your build.
This is what I currently use with great success: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJARSjMd0FaVImhwJagfgC9t3C7gxAYAUmG5OA-TVCFABIcIAA4BAclSQkU+9o6PCcBASTXQL7PkwRAIAACwNvZ28mBG6QH6QH6Q7m38m38m3sMAMLA-w
Utilites swapped depending on what I face. Whirlwind hits like a train because of air and fire sigils. Rush is fixed (thank you Lord) and with merciless hammer + guaranteed crits, you are like kool aid man on crack. Despite the nerfs, I find merciless hammer still to be invaluable.
Edit A couple rotations:
GS4>GS3>swap>H3>Hammerstun>H5>H2>Swap
GS4>GS5>swap>H4>H5>Swap>GS2
GS4>GS3 next to your foe(Swap mid cast)>H4>H5>H2>Hammerstun>Swap

Ups I forgot that rune of speed, Dont use it at all, I am using rune of pack but I will buy hoelbrak because lots of ppl using that.
Elementalist : Constant condi pressure will drain their sustain and dodge their CC (their CC give them time to recuperate, don’t let them). If they go in air, they gonna updraft you, if they go in earth they gonna earthquake, etc. D/D Elementalist are all about might stacking, so use your CC like crazy just after they used their fire field, don’t let them gain might and they won’t be able to hit your hard. And finally the WORST enemy of a D/D ele is Chill. That kitten up their rotation and put them in a super hard position. The trick is to put chill on them just after the got out of water. For you that’s won’t be possible since you don’t have chill on demand.
Mesmer : Condi pressure is the way to go, they don’t have condi removal most of the time. Just make sure that you don’t attack them while they have chaos armor unless you can finish them, otherwise you hurt yourself and buff them. Be prepare for their burst. When they are on staff they kite you and wait for their cooldown. When they switch to sword be ready for the incoming burst. They gonna want to stun/daze you and make a blurred frenzy while mind cracking 3 illusions on you, that’s what you want to evade.
Thief : Again, heavy condi pressure is the key. NEVER stand in their blind field, that’s just giving them the victory. Its a static blind field, so just move out of it. They gonna want to backstab you, so you know exactly where they gonna go when they are stealth : on your back. Put condition pressure around you, move a lot so they can’t land their backstack correctly. If they black powder/HS, they won’t have a lot of stealth run away or leap so they won’t have time to backstab you, then rush to them. If they use a SR, its because they are in trouble, use cc to knockthem out of that or put heavy pressure in it. After the SR you should run, they have a long duration of stealth from SR so if you run you gonna have to run for a long time. Stay there, more and put AoE pressure on you. Thief are the best at disengaging so don’t feel bad if you bring him low and he run away.
Keep in mind that you don’t have the best profession against thief and mesmer. But Elementalist should be piece of cake if you have a longbow.
Change up the sigils on your weapons and runes on your armor.
Armor: Rune of Hoelbrak
Hammer: Sigil of Intelligence, Sigil of Paralyztion
Greatsword: Sigil of Doom (Make them regret switching out their condi clear when they see a GS warrior), Sigil of Impact (One of your best damaging combos is going to be Hammer stun followed by 100b).
Also switch out bull’s charge for signet of fury. You’ll get that extra crit rate and if you fight a mesmer who over load you with condition before fight even starts you have a way to clear it with instantly filled adrenaline bar.
I am not sure why @Thaddeus.4891 keeps saying to put condi pressure on all 3 classes considering that you are running a power build with literally 0 source of condition but some of his advice is still valid. To add to it:
Thief: The biggest thing I can add is SWING SWING SWING, keep moving and swinging both your weapons. If the thief wants to come in for back stab make them pay for it by getting at least 2 auto attacks before he moves out of range again. If thief is perma blinding you that means they are using pistol offhand, again SWING SWING SWING just outside of the smoke field they put down to leap through and make them pay again with an auto attack or two for trying to stealth in the first place. If thief successfully stealth’s using combo, use your GS 5 and let them waste half or all of their expensive stealth just gap closing you.
Mesmers: you will get better at this with practice but one of the biggest things to dodge is the shatter, when you see all the clones closing in on you dodge. Don’t let them bait out your burst skill, a lot of the smart ones will load you with conditions just to the point of annoyance and when you use that burst they will unload their real condi burst. If they move out of range of hammer after loading you with condis, swap to GS, use #5 and then use the GS burst. If you fight in a condensed area, just aoe and cleave their clones and if in open area, just keep switching targets till you see the mesmer with buffs.
Elementalist: They are actually the easiest class to not die to, not win against but to not die to. They have only 1 large damage dealing and might stacking combo and if you interrupt that or dodge it, they can try to keep hitting you with pathetic lightning whip. When you see the field field, stun, knock them out and just put offensive pressure on them. If they cannot stack might, their damage is underwhelming. If they manage to successfully stack might and about to use fire grab make sure you clear condi just before that. About killing them, your goal is just to make them use up their stun breakers. If you don’t stun them and try to just use dps its unlikely you will do anything because they are excellent healers and condi clearers. After they use their mist form and arcane shield, its as simple as hammer stun followed by gs #2, #3, #4, #5 and back to hammer to finish the job.
One more thing to add, all 3 classes have EXCELLENT escape mechanisms so you should remember to save your biggest for when they are not at full health because if you use hammer stun, gs2345 on a tanky ele or mesmer theres a good chance they won’t die before your rotation is up and will be able to blink and stealth or lightning ride away from you. More so the mesmer because instant stealth and blink and they can be gone and out of combat very quick. Thief however, if they have used their stun breaks and are running zerk gear you will be able to kill them within that 3 sec stun.
What a massive text wall, here’s a TL:DR.
Bait out their stun breakers, avoid using your burst cleasing ire unless you NEED too and be mindful about when you use your massive burst.
