notes on duelling a warrior
Hammer/mace builds are very predictable so it’s easy to kite/dodge them. It’s also easier when you have played as a warrior with such build.
Blind, dodge, ranged weapons helps.. but you just need more experiance.

i have thought of going against the build with an uber-blind thief, but i guess to me it feels like im fighting a troll-ish build with another troll-ish build, permastealth/blind to me is a bit unfair to anybody.
i do understand the stun builds are predictable, excluding (imo) a mesmer chainstun build :p. i will just have to duel against it more frequently just to get used to it like you said. thanks for the reply

this isn’t particularly helpful i’m not gonna lie; the purpose of a chain in any sort of game is so that there isn’t a cd, its like in any fighter game where you bust out a super combo on your opponent and they can’t do anything while you’re performing it. your opponent goes flying after your combo, they are able to get back up afterwards(in most cases there are invul frames when they recover), and the fight goes on.
anet did a fair job on ensuring that most classes could stop the chain with skills that include stunbreaks so you can get away or fight back, i’m just making the point that a warrior build could possibly have an excessive amount of disables. while it doesnt look like anet is going to deal with this anytime soon, i’m asking you how you deal with builds like this.

On AoC at some point they revamped the cc system. And basically after a stun your had a 2-3second immunity to another Hard CC. So basically it removed the possibility of getting chain-feared/stun.
the easiest way to beat a warrior in a duel is to keep them at a distance until you burst. you want a fluid in out combat or they will hurt. when they are low you gotta put the pressure on them because they can only regen over time. at around 25% pop a stability and go onto the offense, if you dont have stability, have a contingency plan and attack smart. make sure you bait their dodges and be wary of mace cracks. never dodge roll anything that isnt backbreaker, ES or shieldbash (macecrack is kinda BS and looks like an auto attack which is dumb) as a warrior since launch I have used the exact same tactic on the OP classes before me with great success. I also use this tactic against other warriors to great success. manipulation is key my friend and FOTM warriors are so easily manipulated.

oh btw Sigil of paralyzation has been “nerfed/fixed” according to the live stream, it’s gonna be in the patch tomorrow.
That means quite less stun duration.

I also remember many MMOs with diminishing returns on stuns. But non of them had abilities like stability in GW2.
GW2 already got plenty of counters to stuns:
1. Dodge/Evade/Block/Invis
2. Stun breaks
3. Stability
Thats way better counters than e.g. conditions have, because if you have multiple conditions on you, its often hard to cure the one condition which bothers you the most (e.g. immobilize or the 25 stacks of confusion).
If Anet additionally would add diminishing returns to control effects, there would actually be 4 counters (FOUR) to a single skill.
IMHO that would be way over the top.
I run a hammer / sword and shield build and roam in wvw a lot, I find it easy to beat other fotm GS mace/shield builds, the key I find is to bait your opponent, Get them to use their stun breakers dodge rolls, never face tank keep moving in and out Classes I really struggle against are theifs and mesmers because they can keep up pressure and can be hard to lock down, also be wary of been baited yourself I can’t tell you the amount of times I baited someone into chasing me as they thought they had me, just to get them into a favourable position while waiting for my Skills to come of CD, knowing when someone is baiting you is a also a skill, watch any top players on you tube they always faint a run away to renegage and catch the enemy off guard, the enemy will usually use a gap closer (which happens to be a stun breaker) while chasing you which gives them one less against your lockdown.

HEaling Signet is banned on most “serious” duel servers (along with some PU stuff for mesmers)

Stability exists for a reason.
i feel like a total kitten for posting this in the warrior forum but frankly idk where to put it.
now we all know there are some builds in dpvp that are advantageous and some that are not. but in all honesty i feel like there are some particular builds that utilize stuns/disables to an excess.
i’m referring to specifically hammer and mace/shield warrior; does anybody find a problem with there being up to 6 skills that disable you, not even including utilities?
1)mace 3
2)shield 4
3)hammer 5
4)hammer 4
5)mace burst
6)hammer burstunless you have a phuq-ton of stunbreakers or stability, its hard to stay away from all of them, especially if the warrior has played the build the whole 10 minutes it takes to practice the various stun/disable combos.
combined with the healing signet(healing), signet of stamina(condi cleanse), berserker stance(condi cleanse), dolyak signet(-damage/stability), and even runes of lyssa(condi cleanse/everybuff), the warrior alone is very survivable against both condition and dps builds.
i know its wrong of me to post this in warrior section because people will think im just QQ-ing, but i’m watching these warriors in duelling servers take off their body armour when duelling because they dont want the effect of runes of lyssa. As a warrior, what does that mean when you can outduel another class naked?
i’m trying to not make this sound like a hate session on a class, so please don’t reply telling me to QQ moar.
instead, i’d like your legitimate opinion and critique on a build like this, or how you yourself have beaten people that use this build
by the way the reason i’m posting this is not just because i came out of a stalemate with a permastun warrior when i was a nooby mes, but also so you can post your strategies for what the shortcomings of this build is and how you take advantage of it when your fighting it yourself. i hope you don’t see this post as rageful, im legitimately curious, and i’d rather ask the professionals themselves than anybody else.

happy to actually see someone ask for tips rather then truly qqing and asking for a warrior nerf I logged in just to reply to this X D.
firstly the build your referring to is VERY focused on being up close hammer and mace are kinda useless if you kite. you want to do high damage in as short as time as possible when dealing with healing sig otherwise you run a risk of watching your work just fade away.
stability and stunbreakers are extremely important in the event they do get up close you need some form of escape. (stability works best as you will literally be immune to the cc for a long decent time oh and a lot of stable skills happen to be stun breaks too)
best way to kite a warrior would be to make use of cripple chill and imbolie if you have that.
the best advice is stay out of melee range be prepared with stunbreaks and stable in the event of the worst and end it as fast as possible. of course keep in mind that mace burst is a single target skill kinda useless if you have more then 1 person watch for animations and when you see a certain skill get used (it may take time to learn these) use a evade.
to go into more detail why cripple immobile and chill are good against this build other then simply kitting.
earth shaker is a leap leaps range are reduced greatly by chill and cripple. immobile can be used to keep your distance more effectively. i’m singiling out earthshaker because this build will require either a earthshaker or b bull charge (bulls charge is affected the same way) it the only reliable way for this build to get up close.

As Wildfang stated chill and I mob are king also blinds if they miss there burst skill either 100b with GS or Earthshaker with hammer (both very easy to spot) then they don’t spend adrenaline which mean cleansing ire doesn’t work and the conditions are not cleared. Tbh as a warrior I don’t have any problems with been kited as I use hammer and sword shield so the sword provides a lot of gap closing on a 7 second CD. But against a fotm build immob, blinds, chills are king also keep up pressure as already stated if you go defensive and allow a warrior too much space the signet will trickle heal any damage you have done to their health. You will probably work out the warriors lockdown rotation pretty quickly in the engagement and once you know that it will help you evade it. I really struggle against certain thief and Mesmer builds so we are not indestructible.
Another good tip is to group with an enemy who beets you and ask for another duel I have done this to get better against certain classes / builds, you may loose 3 in a row but you will learn a lot by fighting 1 kind of class / build for a bit.

Thanks for all the answers guys, the tips on reducing your foes speed with cripple/chill/immobilize is very helpful, as well as the kiting advice
in wvw i’m learning how to take on builds like this, i’m basically an all glass mesmer that is able to take away stability from warriors if they use it and apply it to myself, so i have some cc of my own to keep them off me as well as ranged abilities. the only real trouble i have with using a build like that is backstab thieves because they down me so quickly and the condi-meta that multiple classes are using now.
in pvp i’ve yet to try the kiting techniques with my mesmer, but i have managed to hold my own with a stealthy/blinding thief and even have managed to down them once or twice, but id rather not run a permastealth/blind build as i find it troll-ish.

Nobody plays hammer anymore, Its all bout dem axes. double axe, HIGH crits= DEATH. cant help you if we have to fight in wvw ;P
