Hello again chap’s – like I said in my last thread i am not use to Pvp that being being wvw romaing or anything to do with pvp.

I want to be the best of my ability when it comes to pvp, i am pretty competitive but I just can not seem to kill any 1 solo ;( I don’t think it is my build because I seen videos of people using the same build as me and they seem fine – it’s a L2P issue and I admit it, I am bad.

I found a semi friendly engi in EB the other day and he kinda owned me 5 wins to 1 ( he was condi may i add) but i just can not seem to learn fighting people in wvw – i rely on reaction rather then instinct when it comes to fight’s because i just do not know how other class’s play, i am starting to beat more thief’s a lot easier now how ever.

anyway is going into spvp viable to learn to pvp better, i tryed OS but people just roll me before i even get a chance do really do anything as they are all speced for 1v1.

PRACTICE. That really is it. Yes the 1v1 rooms in PvP will help you hone your skills. But until you learn the mechanics of other classes and how to react correctly you will have a tough time.

why are you not specced for 1v1 as a roamer? :P spvp hotjoin.. not really, its mini zerg fest.. the 5v5 is ok once you feel confident but its also no 1v1.. but there are duel arenas – go there when you feel confident and you can learn a few things ^^ maybe you have seen old videos.. there isnt much of anything-goes anymore when it comes to 1v1.. use meta build or get rickrolled :P and yeah practice.. all needs to happen automatic, you just use 1 eye to watch your buff / debuff bar and 1 eye to follow enemy – pulling combos, stacking might, dodge dangerous skills – all needs to be on autopilot. one thing maybe that a lot of people dont use is territory to their advantage. against ranged classes you can block their line of sight, against melees you can outmanouver them with well timed dodges / leaps / jumps if you are under pressure. but yeah getting good as 1v1 is all about 1. meta build 2. know all classes and their skills 3. training training training.. some people have been duelling for 1.5 years now

i fear we will look back to this day and remember the good old wvw as it is now – Jan 2015

Spvp is certainly a good place to learn.

Hotjoin won’t necessarily get you practice against good people playing good builds (tournies are better for that), but it is a great place to practice your own mechanical ability in pvp and get comfortable facing other classes.

Here’s the #1 thing that helped me though: With spvp you’re free to try any class nearly instantly. When I wanted to improve, I forced myself to spend a day or two with every class (I just found one or two meta builds/guides from the forums. That way I get a feel for cooldowns, strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to learning to fight a class, I don’t think there’s any substitute as good as playing it yourself.

Winning 1v1 with a warrior is rather easy in spvp compared to Obsdidian Sanctum in WvW because there no condi duration food and no dire gear so you will never lose to condi spam and power spec vs power spec , warrior still has a huge advantage. If you wanna have a chance to win against good players you need at least a longbow and 20 pts in defense, the rest you can decide.

The best 1v1 ( non-cheesy) warrior builds

2/0/6/0/6 Axe/sword + longbow berserk amulet , strength runes
4/0/4/0/6 Greatsword+ longbow ……… Same stuff………

You can take cheesy road with condi build too

4/0/4/6/0 mace/sword + longbow with confusion on rupt+ banner regeneration or shout heal

0/4/0/4/6/0 sword/sword + longbow with banner regen or shout heal ( similar to other build with confusion )

There are more options for condi builds but I don’t know too much about them, last time I used a condi build it was months ago when I started PvP. So the builds I listed for condi may not be the best but I know for sure that you can abuse sustain with banners or shouts in 1v1 , its like a thief with 30 SA.

You should be able to win any 1v1 with those builds except maybe some cheesy kitten mesmer.

Trust me engineer is hard where ever you meet them.

But the best warrior 1v1 I believe is a shout heal condition based build. It’s actually great against Mesmer, only condition based engineer might give you trouble. Anything else, even if you can’t kill them, they probably can’t kill you either.

Watching streamers helps too. You can pick up builds, burst combos, when to do what, etc.

Here is one of Shin’s (good Warr WvWer) build:

(May be outdated, but can be a starting point).

Usually for me the order of how to get better is this:

- Know everything about the class you play
- Looking up standard/popular builds, test them out
- Practice on chosen build for at least several games in spvp, then make modifications unless you get stomped pretty hard, then probably make small adjustments until it seems more viable
- Play other classes to know how they work

Hi,

- Know everything about the class you play

This is a very good advice!

@OP:

Now, sPvP is hard, because you cannot count on superior gear to win, and stats are more limited than in WvW, so you cannot have both damage and defense. And basically, in 1v1 you’ll tend to spec for more damage, so you’ll have more fragile / unforgiving builds.

Before training in PvP, I usually train a bit in PvE. In my opinion, training in PvP can be disheartening, because you often die without having the time to get your rotations right, so the learning is slow and the pain is great.

The content in PvE is easier, as mobs have few attack patterns. So basically, you’ve got time to get your rotations right, and learn the tricks of your build. Usually, I consider I’m ready for PvP when I can solo some champions, because this means my rotations have become natural and that I can use them while focusing on enemy tells.

Now, not anyone would want to train (and optionally gear) a lvl 80 character to do that – and the 15/04 patch has been a real pain, in that you must have tons of skill points and gold if you want to unblock your traits. Alternatively, you could simply train with NPC’s in the heart of the mists. If they have not been nerfed by now since 15/04, they can be decent substitute training partners for a beginner in a given class/build.

Good luck!

Perhaps it is a good idea to offer a bit more information on exactly what you are finding difficult to defeat.

Also, you can learn a lot from video’s on youtube by warriors who comment on their actions.

Other then that, the above posters said it all.

I only state my opinion unless stated otherwise.
