...+shield
Well if you want big damage, then you most likely want Axe/Shield. Mace/Shield would do less damage but have CC.
You can work sword into a power build, but I don’t know the specifics of how good it is compared to axe (I run sword/shield with condition). Sword will provide the most mobility of the three options though.
I think it may depend mostly on what you want your other weapon to be.
If you like gs then you can get by with mace/shield (more cc) or sword/shield (more mobility).
If you like hammer mace/shield will provide even more CC, but axe and sword will still work for damage.
If you like LB I could see Axe/shield working for high damage but you could maybe get sword/shield to work with a damage build too (#3 on the lb and sword are both good damage, but both burst skills are condition focused)
As for a build, eh, I’ll leave it to the people who focus on that gameplay to provide a good build. But you should be looking at Strength (slashing power, axe mastery, berserker’s power), Arms (Unsuspecting foe, rending strikes, blademaster, forceful greatsword, furious), Discipline (sharpened axes, heightened focus), just to point out some highlights, if you want high crits.
Though if you really want to use a shield, getting Shield Master from Defense isn’t a bad quality of life decision (same with cleansing ire).
But those are just my thoughts, I’m sure others can give you some more informed numbers on the matter.
I don’t need the bigest crits on my warrior. i just wanna good dmg with maybe some toughness. i was thinking about knight’s stats but i dont know if that dmg will be …em enough as a dps build
Well to give you some vague numbers from my memory. I used to use either full magic find gear or knights gear with sword/shield and lb, and my sword aa hit for ~400-450 or so on a crit. I had to craft a zerker set of armor to help deal with one of the older LS updates and using zerk armor with magic find trinkets my aa went up to ~1.2k or so on a crit. And the axe aa was higher, with maybe a ~25k crit on burst. But i did feel a lot squishier.

that builder should help give you some useful info with effective power, health, and damage reduction compared to a light armor 80.
I run with knights/rabid currently, but you may want to check out Berserker, Soldiers, Assassin, Knights, or Cavaliers stats to get a good mix of power, precision, crit damage, toughness that you want.

are you talking about pve, spvp, wvw? everything?
well if you want to do PVE and use a shield AT ALL COST.
Your best bet is:
Axe/shield – Greatsword
Keep in mind the pve meta last time I checked used an Axe AND a greatsword. But if you don’t care about MAXIMUM dps. You can have fun rolling around with a
Axe/shield – Axe/mace build
And be just fine.
Sword is a condition weapon with SOME power.
So seems like you are not very interested in it.
I think it would be best for you to take an Axe for the extra damage, sword has some burst capabilities but it remeans ideal in rampager builds.
The Burst skill on Axe also doesn’t lock you in place making it very effective with traits like “Building Momentum” for stamina recovery or “Cleansing Ire” for the extra condition removal. If you are not looking for the most damaging possible build I would recommend you to go for a 20/0/20/0/30 and mix it with Berserker/Knight gear. You will get some some decent damage and surviability against both physical and condition damage. You will have plenty of adrenaline to spend and your burst skill will be a very big part of your gameplay.
Hope it helps!
heh… it depends what u mean MAXIMUM dps. i am new warrior. when i reached 80 i made condition build based on sw/sw and rabid gear but i now i think its not for me. now i just wanna make build with i can make nice dps using something plus shield ev. hammer. i was running with gs whole game and its boring for me now ;_;
axe/shield 30/25/0/0/15 (same as new meta build but shield over OH mace) does ~5% less DPS than the meta axe/mace build due to losing dual wielding and lower weapon strength. pure axe > gs for dps assuming good might uptime; what gs brings is mobility and some evades from ww.
ok ok and if i make full berserker eq how many dmg i could see using that axe/shield from aa?
Well I am currently using a mix of knights, and assassins for armor. buffed with “For Great Justice”, The precision banner, and the signet that gives precision (cant remember it right now). Not only do i still retain 3K armor, but I get 101% crit with 65% crit damage and 2.9K power. My auto attacks hit 1000-1400 damage each hit, and the third skill burst hits 6-8K depending on mobs armor of course. And full berserks with an axe would do 8K, again depending on armor but it is certainly a good dps weapon.

really depends on stacks of might, vuln etc. % damage modifiers are pretty important. normally I will see ~6-7k crit on last hit with no might and 2k autos.
in an optimal setting I guess 15k+ is probably possible, and maybe even 20k and above if the bosses have low armour
Ok guys. Just one more question XD. Could u recomend me runes and sigils for “that” build. I also dont know now if that shield is really needed. I write about it because i though i won’t be so squishy if i use it in off hand instead of another weapon
static damage% sigils are all you really need in PVE, along with stacking (perception/bloodlust) and an energy sigil for specific fights and skips.
so force/X is your best bet, X being:
night (for night dungeons which are 5/8 of all dungeons, excluding cm/hotw/arah),
a slaying sigil (better than accuracy but a hassle to have so many offhands, I only have undead since I don’t do hotw and cm much)
accuracy (catch-all option but least optimal)
remember that night + slaying stack, which is good if you farm dungeons like COE/COF
Ok so i just made this http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJAsejkO9u5OKPMRCCUhrYeYkf8/jCoMFVB6A-jwCBYfAYggkGgEBAJPKiJQCr1WFRjVtATVKRqTC1eDFRrGA-e and the last thing i want it’s your suggestions. i hope that dps on it will be enough but what do you think about that knight’s stats. Will it give me enough toughness to be not squishy?
My main thoughts are against pairing healing signet with Restorative Strength and Runes of the Fighter.
Healing sig is horrible to use as an active skill.
3,275+0.5*healing (active) vs. 392+0.05*healing*20 (passive)
With your 100 healing power in that build:
3325 active vs. 397/s (7940 over 20 sec).
Sure it is the quick to cd, but I don’t know how viable it is to use for ‘on heal’ effects, considering all the healing you will be losing out on. Especially since you will be losing the +2% crit chance just to use the ‘on heal’ effects.
I’d also argue how good deep strike is. It’s roughly 2% per signet, but how often are you going to be using your signets. You will most likely be using Signet of Rage constantly, so that leaves 3 others. Healing signet normally isn’t used that often, but if you want to use “on heal” effects then you’ll lose out on that too. So then signet of Furry and Might are left. In most of PvE I don’t think you’ll be using Might ever, and signet of furry comes down to play style (how much you want to use your adrenaline moves). So for you, you may want to replace deep strikes (on average most likely a 4-6% crit chance bonus for rending strikes.
You’d need to do the math to see which would come out on top between the two. 78% vs 71% crit chance but 71% gives you a (.71*.33=~23% chance to stack vuln), but that’s me just doing some quick math.
rune of the fighter is a garbage rune. for stat optimisation you should be using knight chest/helm/legs.
traits are also in a mess. berserker’s power is compulsory for a direct damage build.
sword mh is trash for dps, axe is far better. honestly if you use a sword it might be more damage to spec for conditions (ss+lb) with rabid/rampager and 25/30/0/0/15 build, but I’m not sure. however, your dps will be much lower than meta direct damage build unless you are solo/in very long fight with nobody else overwriting condi stacks
