in solo play, warrior is pretty much just damage, but what does a warrior do in a group besides damage?

i know about the banners that give out group wide stat improovement, but what else is there?

Shouts, for one.

For Great Justice is always welcome because few classes have such easy access to Fury as Warriors.

I can do thirty Five-Dolyak Arm Curls.

For PvE I currently have 3 armor sets atm, Soldiers (Str, +Vit, +Tough), Berserker (Str, Perc, +Crit), and the Nightmare dungeon set I THINK is (Perc , +Heal, +Vit)

The first and set is your standard heal shouts. I ran Hammer + Mace/Mace (secondary set is choice)mostly but I realized that while fun the CC was useless on bosses 90% of the time.

Second set is just all dmg. However, I run “On My Mark” and “FGJ” so I am a benefit to my team outside of dmg. I use Rifle and GS, I focus on range DPS and strike with GS when the mobs aren’t focused on me. I would say Endure Pain is a must in case things go sour (Also good to run in and Hero Revive).

The last set is the most interesting. I uses Sword/Warhorn + Longbow. I use Banner of Tactics and Warbanner (another fantastic revive skill) and both perks to reduce cooldown and (most importantly) provides AOE regen. I still use Runes of the Soldier mostly because atm most runes are very overpriced. I also use FGJ and Shake it Off so while the shouts won’t heal they’ll still remove conditions. Basically your role is to buff, remove conditions, and apply bleed/burning.

Warriors are good at a lot of things, however the thing they do best is dmg. I notice that since I switched back to it organized runs go much faster. Some dungeons like Arah can be really brutal on pure DPS builds so having two sets is probably optimal but if you only can afford one atm I’d do towards a more defensive set as it’ll never let you down.

As for PvP, Axe/Mace seems to be the way to go atm and you play as a roamer, just avoid head-on 1v1 fights with good Thieves,Mesmers, or Guardians. You can sometimes win but sometimes it just isn’t worth it.

Hope my way of playing helps you out.

Really depends on the group and the nature of the others’ builds.

If you have a group that has lots of condition damage focuses players, having someone who can do direct damage can be very useful to balance things out. For example, one of my guilds has a lot of Condition Damage (bleed) necros, together they are a force to be reckoned with. However, get those guys in a situation where direct damage is needed and they may as well be shooting spits balls at solid rock.

If instead, if you have a group with several DPS players already, Warrior could be traited for more general support with CC, Shouts or Banners, party buff (as already mentioned, For Great Justice can be a huge plus for any group) and/or survivability, etc. The Tactics tree has some attractive traits if you are party support and have teammates that go down (i.e., additional armor when reviving, increase in revival speed).

As BurrTheKing stated… a Warrior’s bread and butter is damage. Generally speaking, if a Warrior strays too far from doing damage, it’s probably losing a lot of effectiveness.

when running dungeons on my warrior i always look at my role as allowing my teammates to deal the max amount of damage they possibly can.

[FGJ] and [shake it off] are often just enough to let a good team stay on me just slightly behind doing tons of damage as my shouts heal and remove conditions.

with +90% increased up time on my might boons i can stack an insane amount of might on my party. combined that with traits and you will never have less then +280 attack power when you run with me.

against bosses i like to bust out the mace and shield and face check them so my team can get behind the boss safely. the bane of my existence when i do this however is the inevitable idiot that just spams CC and blows through my carefully managed defiance.

interesting, so not only a warrior is able to deal a ton of damage, he also increases the attack of his group.

and considering he has the highest base hp among the classes, he also has the potential to take quite a beating during boss fights , reducing the pressure from his team mates. right?

In full ‘zerkers gear you’ll only be slightly tougher and have slightly more XP than squishier classes. A lot of bosses deal enough dmg that they don’t care about such minor differences, hence the suggestion to bring Endure Pain. In PvP a thief will probably wait until it knows your stun break is on CD and you’ll drop as easy as the rest of ’im.

Some classes are better than others at certain things. A Warrior can take a lot of hits, but can also dish out some serious pain. If you’re staying alive and doing the most damage you can, then you’re doing a great service to your team. I tried the tankier route, and I tried heal support, but I feel like I’m the weakest link if I’m not doing the most damage that I can on my Warrior. Both my Guardian and Warrior I go healing with shouts, but my Guardian is definitely more support orientated, and can get out of sticky situations easier with shouts like “Save Yourselves”, “Stand Your Ground”, and “Hold the Line”. There is nothing wrong with doing tons of damage on your Warrior. Besides… someones gotta do it : P

I think Necromancers have the highest base Health, actually.

Reading wiki may help with understanding.
Base HP of classes is split in 3 groups,
lowest being guardian, thief and elementalist with 10805 HP;
middle-tier is mesmer, ranger and engineer with 15802 HP;
and top-tier is warrior and necromancer with 18372 HP.
3 groups are also split in armor category which gives them the base amount of defense(1 point of defense on armor pretty much equals to 1 point of toughness according to game mechanics), and doubling your armor(which is defense+toughness)
halves the damage dealt to you.

In terms of tPvP, not a whoollleee lot.

Hence why most Paid tPvP teams don’t run them.

This. You’ll need to learn another class if you want to play tPvP. Warriors are being phased out by thieves in the burst role (the only role warriors can fill).

Posts like these are really bad, no offense. Remember when everyone asked for Ele buffs? Look at Ele now. Stupidly broken.

If you really have to know the difference between Thief and Warrior, Warrior does better team fight DPS (due to better AoE and just more rewarding if you build around a good one) as a trade-off to having less survivability.

Too bad low skill casuals like you won’t find any sense to this because you would rather whine instead of playing better.

Solo Que in EU, looking at Foefire (around 20 mins) and the Kylho match against a high level pre-made 34 minutes in. Take notes, learn, and stop complaining. I don’t want my class to be an Ele duplicate because of your posts.

As was mentioned Shout heals and banners are helpful in groups. There are a couple support traits as well (like Empower Allies http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empower_Allies)

I levelled with Greatsword, and used that for a while, but got bored of it (HB doesn’t feel very dynamic).
Now I’m trying high crit axe/mace when I want to go dps. Or mace/shield with a defensive support build if I’m in a group of squishies in a dungeon. The Weakness from the mace’s final attack makes a huge difference (it’s just not as flashy as a knockdown or stun).
Even using Longbow can be pretty effective by allowing your teammates to spread burning, or blinding bosses at a critical moment, etc.

Since the game is so geared towards dps and avoiding the “holy trinity”, I think it’s hard to find a role for a lot of classes.
