They’re both good at either.

Warrior is a more offensive class. Guardian is more defensive.

In PvP if you prefer to stay alive and support then Guardian is a bit better. If you prefer to jump in and hammer kitten Warrior is a bit better. Personally I prefer my guardian for commanding and my warrior for roaming.

In PvE it’s practically irrelevant. Most parties will need more warriors than guardians, but practically every party needs A guardian at least… Warriors do more DPS, but guardians do support with their DPS.

Either are good choices.

in WvW a guardian is much more of a core component to any group. A warrior is nice but guardians are frankly much more useful in any type of group play as they unlike warriors are a huge force multiplier. Now having said that if you multiply a warrior with a guardian you get death. You said you and your friend? one go guard one go warrior. you will have so much fun and you will not be disappointed. HEAVY FTW

If you want magical heavy class take Guardian and if u want to be pure physical brute take Warrior. In the end bouth are wanted everywhere and good on everything.

Warriors do more DPS, but guardians do support with their DPS.

DPS between the 2 are really close. Warrior is only better for “group DPS” with banner support. But once you have a Warrior/2 Warriors dropping Disc & Strength, why take anymore?

@OP, I’ll speak purely PvE perspective here, and suggest if you will be PUGing a majority of the time, you will have no issues finding at least adequate Warriors for their banners. A good Guardian, on the other hand, is few and far between in the PUG world.

It’s much easier to carry bad players as a Guardian than on a Warrior. You can save your terrible teammates kitten because they have unbound their dodge key by using a timed Aegis, while still being able to dish out just shy of the DPS of Warriors.

With the PUG mentality, you’ll get a butt load of Warriors “cuz wars op lolz” so many players flock to the class, leaving a spot open for a good Guardian is every group, rather than AH cleric junk people seem to play.

And if you choose Warrior you will have to listen “Warrior OP Lolz” kind of crap all the time. Or “warriors so eazy” like no matter how good u do others won’t give any credit for it.

For PVE: I have an 80 war and guard. I’ve chosen war to be my main for the following reasons:

1)Mobility: Useful for easy map completion / dungeon skipping / gather running.

Warrior: gs + warhorn/sword gives you 3 low cooldown dashes and free permaswiftness with 1 elite slot ( that also allows you permamight / permafury with fgj). War is the most mobile class in the game.

Guardian: Practically, you have permaswiftness + 1 leap on GS with 2 util shouts. Mediocre compared to most classes.

2)DPS: For solo, war dps > guard dps without question. Guard’s cd’s are longer while war has low CD hb + permafury. Also, war’s traits directly increase damage while guardian’s are more for group support.

3)As far as dungeons go, I’ve pugged dungeonmaster with war without any problems even on some harder paths (In some cases I was the only heavy).

Also, its hard to fail a speedrun for the easier paths if everyone knows the path, so you shouldn’t pick a class depending on this.

tldr; guardians for strong group support, warrior is the strongest/fastest solo class overall.

So far, I’ve found “more options” for warrior than guardian. I’ve only played them both to ~45, but all the weapon combos and tons of awesome traits have made leveling a warrior more enjoyable simply because I can switch things up frequently. I never felt that guardian had that much build variety.

Go Warrior. Guardians have better team support, but their base HP is tiny (which oftenly compromises the gear they can wear), his mobility outside combat is terrible (and inside fight forces you to make specifical choices) and also, Guardians lacks build variety (no viable condition builds, no viable cc builds). I say this as a player who mains a Guardian but has two lvl 80 Warriors; Warriors are currently in better shape and are more fun to play due the amount of viable builds and weapon variety.

I’ll try to be informative, do correct me if I’m wrong. Pve – Guardian, WvW – Guardian. That is the answer if you are looking for the most well rounded class. Even if you spec your guardian for tanking, his healing support and condition removal to party still excels him in Pve; in WvW, its godly.

In case of warrior tho, if you spec for tanking, you will suffer pve a lot because your dmg is a joke. You will be hard to die but that is just you. All warrior party buffs are not as significant as Guardian’s. WvW, you will be fine. (In Pvp, you can specifically build a toon for that so that does not count)

It is the play style that you should look at when comparing the two. If you wanting to dish out some dmg while having decent defend stats for WvW – Warrior. However, if you just wanna tank it all and still matter to party in pve – Guardian.

I have had the same exact problem. Just got into WvW and dungeons, but can’t decide on which to get to 80. I have gotten both to level 45 in the last week just don’t want to go further with both.

I think I am going to end up taking my guardian to 80. Reason being it just seems like guardian can do just about the same dps, just with cooler blue fire animations. Only downside is the health pool and warrior has a lot easier and more of mobility. That being said with some boon duration runes and staff with “Retreat” I can have full up time on swiftness. Only loosing some mobility moves on greatsword.

I mean who doesn’t want a magical warrior with a greatsword shooting blue flame everywhere?
