warriors are exctinct
I find it hard to take this thread seriously… Warriors are far from bad or broken as some here would like to imply. They may have problems, sure, but so does every profession. To be fair, of all eight professions in this game the warrior is the least in need of urgent attention.

Well well, look who’s running GS + Axe/Shield cookie cutter now…
Tis a sad day.

Had to move to the dark side to stay competitive
Quick note on that though: our team may start running me as my hammer axe/mace build again – we’re testing the waters.

This has been, and still remains why I gripe about warrior design.
HOWEVER I have found the secret to actually having fun on my warrior:
I’ve stopped playing him in TPvP altogether. I have my 7 other alts for that, mainly fielding the ele or mesmer lately. Finally got my warrior to 80, got his exotics (except for accessories which are rare, working on that) and doing smaller scale and solo WvWvW with him….
As sword/shield + longbow.
And my warrior is actually fun again. Still have some issues with a few things about the class but at least I can play him with the weapon setup that I actually want to use and enjoy him for a change. The higher point spread customization outside the mists helps a lot with this actually as I can stack power and then minor in prec/tough/vitality/condi damage in order to keep him somewhat balanced (since warriors condition damage isn’t that reliable at all with how easily removed it is) in stats.
I’m not forced into some shouting stunlocker or GS herpaderper in order to feel competitive and viable and it makes a huge difference in actually enjoying the game instead of having every glaring issue and drawback of the class stare at you with piercing clarity like in TPvP.
On the other hand my ele and mesmer both tear kitten up in TPvP the more I’ve been running tourneys with them, the ele obviously having a much higher skillcap but also being far more engaging and fun imo. I am firmly convinced that the ele/engi design should have been the baseline for class mechanic design in GW2 with the attunement/kit swaps and whatnot.
Still promoting the idea of warriors having stance dancing as well.

I agree that we are sort of one dimensional. I’ve tried all the other classes and frankly I didn’t find them fun or interesting.
Since I hate WvW, and as a person I’m extremely competitive. I’m forced to play builds that function most optimally in a tPvP Scenerio.
I’ve been tinkering with combining the best of both worlds – GS/Hammer. We’ll see how it goes.

That’s my biggest gripe with Warriors, we have so many kitten weapons and are the “weapon’s master” of classes – but all that variety means nothing when Warriors are pigeonholed into greatsword/dps builds.
Those who call out that warrior is terrible, should either consider another class, or another spec/weapon. I have settled on my weapons, I play almost tankish warrior with some burst, I have no issues and have great influence in all areas of gameplay except spvp because I dont play it. Find your playstyle, not what everyone else is doing, glass cannon is alright for a bit of fun, but get caught out, which is often, and its over. I do wish more warriors would test out defensive specs.

Hey Defektive, any chance you can share the build you are playing around with? Would love to see something like this combining CC and burst DPS. I’m currently running axe/mace + mace/shield but find the burst somewhat lacking.

Right now it’s just a standard 20/30/0/0/20 build, but I swap in Knights ammy w/ zerker rune to bump up the HP since I’ll be losing my shield.
However, I’m finding against extremely good players you’ll need a Shield to keep a fight going.
Example:
Paid tPvP match against Team PZ

A number of times my shield saved my bottom in 1v1’s against Xee.
